  1. I make sure and subscribe to the forums I like. You can subscribe just like you can with threads. Then they are available under Subscriptions in the app or in Content I Follow in the website.
  2. I am in the tech industry and not customer facing. I have always just worn jeans and t-shirts. They fit and I could find them at every size. Well I am a manager now (have been for two years) and still wear jeans and t-shirts. It is acceptable day to day, but as I advance in my career I really need some dressier and more professional things for meetings, travel, etc. I am actually excited by the thought. But I am still losing very fast and dropping at least a size every couple months. So right now I have one pair of jeans (which are too big), one pair of black pants (which are too big), several t-shirts which are too big, and two button-down shirts I can wear camisoles under. Two months ago we went a on a 3-week holiday and I bought like 6 t-shirts and 4 pairs of shorts in size 16. All too big now. I have to hem my jeans because I am 4'11". I have size 14 and 12 in a bag and have not gotten around to hemming them. I'm worried the 14s may be too big. I only paid $8 for them. So I feel stuck. I need to start getting nicer clothes but I can't yet. Hell I have to get a new swimsuit because my husband's company Christmas party is on a yacht on December 20 and I don't know what size I will be. We are going to a semi formal party for New Years Eve and I won't be able to get a dress until the last minute. But I will be able to wear heels without my feet killing me! These problems are so weird. I think I am due for a second closet clean-out tomorrow. I keep wondering what my final size will be. I would not be surprised if I could get to a 6 even. It is so wacky. Oh yeah by the way it is coming to summer here. Southern Hemisphere.
  3. I have been told that for people without hypertension, excess salt is washed out of your body assuming you drink enough water. So as long as you stay hydrated it apparently doesn't really matter. I know lots of us do struggle to get all our water in though. I bet with the reduced caloric intake comes a natural salt reduction.
  4. I'm not on the Questran right now, just waiting to make sure all the surgery stuff is sorted out first. I think the wound is healing well, the pain is somewhat less. I see the surgeon again on Monday and we will re-evaluate then. I am on day 3 of 5 for the antibiotic.
  5. Happy Thanksgiving! It's my favorite holiday and we have a big party every year even though Australians don't have thanksgiving and it is hard to find a turkey that weighs more than 4 kg (8 pounds) here. This year the party was on Nov 16 and we had about 40 friends over. This was my first sleeved Thanksgiving and it was perfect. I got my 50 grams of turkey, a spoonful of everything else I wanted, a couple bites of pumpkin pie and a couple glasses of wine. The leftovers lasted almost a whole week and I never got sick of it and I didn't gain weight (in fact I lost). I really treasures it this year. I feel like I have so much to be thankful for and I am truly blessed to have been able to have VSG and finally start winning the weight battle.
  6. I have less than 1 kg to go until overweight. I started super morbidly obese 6 months ago! I have not been this light since I was 18 years old when I went from around 55 kg to 70 kg in a single year my freshman year of university. I am now 35. The closest I have gotten since then was when I very briefly smooched 70 kg after 3 years of obsessive Weight Watchers from 2002 to 2004. I couldn't make myself keep up the obsession and just couldn't get lower (or maintain). This time I feel HOPE!
  7. Lots of people do feel lots of hunger until they are in full solids and can eat dense Protein. Also you may well have hunger a couple hours after eating, but physical hunger should be easy to satisfy. You simply won't have much capacity. Don't be fooled by not feeling the restriction at first. Your nerves are still healing and liquids and mushies go through quickly. They would be classified as sliders later in your journey, but they have their place in the beginning when your stomach is healing. And the stomach acid "hunger" is real. Most people take a PPI like Nexium for at least the first 6 weeks. I am 6 months out and still need to take 20 mg nexium each day. This is totally different from tums or rolaids. It doesn't neutralize acid but keeps your stomach from producing as much. Some of our stomachs still want to produce enough acid to digest our old normal food capacity even after the surgery.
  8. My surgeon prescribed me pills the day of surgery and the nurse administered them. He explained that pills are hard and will work their way through, but that anything mushy or gluggy wouldnt. I had no trouble. But OP, don't take advice on the Internet. Follow your surgeon's protocol.
  9. I think normal eating is to be able to leave the last cookie in the bag and forget about it until it goes stale. For food not to "call your name". To make the junky choice very rarely and in a small portion, and to have the self control to choose the healthy and small meal most of the time. To take a moment and think about what the body actually needs for fuel for whatever kind of activity is ahead. To balance short-term thinking with longer term goals (and that isn't just a number on a scale). Not hiding food, not eating in the car, not always choosing the "bad food" or choosing the "good food" because you feel too guilty for wanting the " bad food." Not doing things with food that you are ashamed of. Removing the shame from food.
  10. I still measure everything and don't eat more than 2/3 of a cup at a serving. My other signals are actually FEELING full, or flat out losing interest in the meal. But I didn't get those signals until I was on solids.
  11. My husband visited but I didn't want him there most of the time. I was just sleeping/resting and kind of out of it. He was just a phone call away and he did visit every day (I was there two nights). When I felt up to it, I just read. Never turned on the tv.
  12. Congrats on reaching your surgeon's goal! wow that seems quick! You must feel great. I know what you mean about sizes. I am just moving to 14s and it is so hard to believe. I'm so happy there is some action on this thread and everyone is finding their way back!
  13. Make sure yore surgery is not set to lap band in your settings (on the website).
  14. I'm sorry this happened but they probably didn't want to give you something that may not work at your weight. I am sure am alternative formulation is being worked on for heavier women.
  15. It's normal to vomit bile if you are nauseated on an empty stomach. Chills also point to nausea. Try some peppermint or ginger tea. By all means contact your doctor but it is probably nothing to worry about. As for the runny BM, very normal when you are on liquids.

  17. I'm sorry for what has happened to you, SydneySusan. I want to chime in and say that for some of us, HRT IS the best choice, and everyone should speak to their doctor and maybe a second or third doctor when making choices about medications to take or stop taking. I had uterine cancer and had a total hysterectomy at age 32. The ovaries were removed because ovarian cancer is very common in conjunction with uterine cancer, both are stimulated by hormones, and ovarian cancer is nearly impossible to detect early enough to treat effectively. My hysterectomy saved my life. If I had allowed my body to go into menopause at 32, I would have rapidly lost bone density, skin elasticity, hair health and color. I would have aged quickly and damagingly. For this reason I will be on estrogen supplementation until at least my mid-50s (20+ years unless medical science comes up with something better). It is much healthier for me to be on estrogen than off it. One thing to note is that non-pill forms of HRT, such as Patches, sublingual forms, or injectables, bypass the liver completely. Long term use of any digested medication is a risk to the liver. Metformin, the most common medication for type 1 diabetes, is one of the hardest medications on the liver. That is why if you are on metformin, your doctor will order regular blood tests to check your liver function.
  18. I am sorry if you felt attacked. That was never my intent. I think there is some misinformation in this thread, though. You can never be sure if Plan B "worked" or if you just were not pregnant in the first place. You have to take it within a very short period of time from the sexual encounter, before an egg would have implanted. It actually prevents the egg from implanting, hence you would never actually be pregnant. The chances of a given sexual encounter resulting in pregnancy are far, far from 100% anyway. That's why I asked above if people knew how Plan B works. It is not an abortifactant. It is an implantation preventer. It is a well-established fact that obese people, and especially obese women, get a lower standard of health care than healthy-weight people. Of all the people who need to be informed about studies such as the above, obese women need to be aware. This was simply my attempt to raise awareness of new research that has a big potential impact on women on these forums.
  19. i hope this is better now... and alot less painful. I hope you don't mind, I am just curious about how they recommended you care for the wound. I just had plastic surgery 6 weeks ago with ALOT of incisions. I had to do a daily shower with antibacterial soap and then use a clean qtip to put antibacterial cream on before covering with gauze. Toss the qtip and get a clean one before redipping in the lotion. Every.day for 3 weeks - tedious. One of the risks with plastics is wound infection and with a crapload of incisions, you can be sure I didn't want that. It surprised me when I read that you opened the bandage and saw the infection and made me wonder if they had instructed you to just keep it covered or if you were changing it daily? Doesn't matter, just curious. They just gave me the typical laparoscopic surgery advice. The dressings will come off in a few days. Let us know if there is unusual redness, pain, swelling, or discharge. I've had heaps of laparoscopic procedures (including going through the navel) and never had a problem until this time. I guess it was just a game of percentages. I have a feeling that things are much different for plastics!
  20. It talks about both. See the post above yours for corroborating info from the UK. And there really is no place for opinion when the discussion is about science and research. We can all have our own opinions but we don't get to have our own facts.
  21. I posted an article in the Research section about new findings with regard to the efficacy of birth control and Plan B for heavy women. It was an article not an opinion piece. And people are fuckeding arguing with ME as though I were taking their candy away. I didn't do the research or write the paper. I swear as much drama as there was on VST, we at least were not over the top for the most part.
  22. The article doesn't say it won't work, just that it is not as effective. Hormonal birth control these days is given in micro-doses, to reduce some of the side effects of hormone-based contraceptives that were introduced in the 1960s and 1970s. The dose is so small that you must take the pill as close to every 24 hours as possible, and missing a dose is very serious. With these tight tolerances, it makes sense that it would need to be correctly dosed by weight. The article cites scientific sources. It isn't an opinion piece. I thought this was something people should be informed about, so I posted it. Don't shoot the messenger.
  23. Shin splints are serious and are often caused by bad form. Take a couple days off and try taking smaller steps and reducing your pace.
