staceyhearn79 reacted to iamsoworthit in Can plastic surgery accelerate weight loss?
I had the drop too! I don't want to lose any more because I am 110 now. I don't want to go below 110 so I am playing with my calories on my fitness pal to fine my maintain zone. My Dr took 6.8 lbs of skin so I've lost that plus 7 more lbs since my 11/19 circumferential body lift. Loving being an extra small and hearing how tiny I am but wow, men are a bit predatory with a cute body. Wasn't prepared for that and am happily married to the love of my life. I guess my pretty face" finally has a pretty ass, legs and stomach to match. Lol!!

Hi! My port flipped after 2 years of placement and I had a new one put in. Didn't even have a general anesthesia, was so simple. Just gave me loopy drugs and local anesthesia. A bit painful afterwards for a week or so but not major. Ended up being a total waste of money and time for me as my band was empty and I never got another fill after the revision; but I wasn't to know that at the time! Got my band removed today after almost 11 years. Feels weird already!

staceyhearn79 reacted to BandedBrunette481 in How many grams of protein should we have daily?
It depends on what food stage you're in (ex: during my pre-op diet phase I was eating like 100 grams of Protein a day but the first few weeks post op you'll be struggling to get past 40) but in general, once you get past the first month of surgery, it should be about 60-80 grams of Protein per day. That's what my nutritionist says anyways

I'm sure you've already thought of full fat yogurt instead of the zero -- and it's supposed to be so much better for us, that "good fat." Also I am surprised at how high in calories ground flax seeds are; I love those, the nutty flavor, and also very good for you. Now, can you go have one tiny piece of triple creme cheese for me?

@@enjoythetime So the trick for you my friend is not to add more food to up the calories but to eat things that are a bit higher and denser calories so your intake is the same amount in volume (portion) of food but the calorie content is higher.
@@PrettyThick1 you have done amazing so far, but your body is not going to know that you want the switch to dim now that it's in burning mode. To do that you have to do the same as enjoy and that is to eat foods that have a denser calorie content. They don't have to be "junk" foods either just foods that rather then 100 calories have 200 or more. With WLS the last thing we want to do is change our volume of food and stretch things or reduce Fluid in the band and be out of the green zone but to help your body slow down, chose foods that are higher in calories and relax on the cardio a bit. Work more now on the muscle tone, lift some weights take a couple of days recover between and you will see that you will start to tone, and the weight loss will slow down and/or maintain.
    Give it a try...

I am a newbie as well. I told my husband but my adult children do not know. My daughter and her husband are living here right now until their home is ready to move into. I have eaten at the table with them….we've gone out to eat numerous times and I've had no questions. It's not that odd to see someone not drink. I always order a drink and save it for my thirty minutes after eating. I've always drank a lot during a meal. That's the hardest thing about this process for me. Anyway, I've learned the wonderful art of moving food around on my plate. I always get a to go box and eat my leftovers at my next meal or the next day. It's really pretty cool. My daughter always says she's proud of me for pacing myself. She does not know about my sweet little tool….my princess tummy. I was worried about the same things. I have found though, it's not an issue unless we make it one. You will do fine. Besides, sleeve or not, I've never been able to eat a lot in front of a newbie date. I always say I'm building a different relationship with food, and it's a true game changer. That's very true, I am! Good Luck!!

Thank you, I am feeling better today. A little sore and weak but better. I can start getting my fills again toward the end of the month. It's like having a new band all over again. Just glad it wasn't worse. I got very lucky.

I got to spend Mother's Day miserable and in the ER. Now, I'm not new to the band, I've had it for 15 months...but what I learned is the rules are in place for a reason. I don't usually eat Breakfast because my band is tight in the morning. I drink my coffee and later I eat something. But yesterday my husband and I went to the gym early because we had a lot of things planned for the day. Needless to say I was STARVING by the time we were done. Two hours in the gym will do that. He took me out to lunch and I ordered a salad with small steak cubes and a corn mixture from Chipotle. Now, I've eaten this before now problem. What I ran into was I didn't CHEW it well enough because I was so hungry. 3 bites into my meal and I knew that feeling. I was stuck. Went to the bathroom and got it out. Went back to the table. Still felt stuck, went back to the bathroom and got more out. Still felt stuck. Which was weird cuz it's never taken me more than a couple times to get unstuck. I went back to my husband and told him we have to leave...now. All the way home I was "throwing up" and spitting in a cup. Got home 25 minutes later and tried again to get it out. No success. Hours go by and I try EVERYTHING I've read about and still nothing. I had to cancel all my plans. I called the doctor and she said come in for emergency unfill. So I made the trip with my husband back to the city. She took all 6cc's out of my band. I immediately felt relieve. I could swallow my own spit finally. But I was still in pain so she sent me down to the ER for a CT. Pain meds, anti nausea meds, a KUB, and CT later I was okay'd to go home. They said that the gastroenteritis I had 2 weeks ago that sent me to the same ER for violent vomiting and dehydration caused a lot of swelling in my band area and I still had some lingering in my bowels and that plus me not chewing caused me to get stuck that bad. So chew your food and don't waiting until you are starving. I knew better but I didn't follow the rules.

staceyhearn79 reacted to Wendydarling19 in migraines and topamax
I take topomax for Migraine. My Neuro put me on it after I was banded and I haven't really had any issues except for some tingling and numbness in the extremities which is common and I remember from the first time I had it. That only happened in the beginnning or if I miss a dose and I get tingly the next time I take it. Igt does make me very tired though. I told my neuro I was low to no carbing and he said it's not an issue. The plus side is that is can often lead to loss of appetite and is used in conjunction with phentermine as a weight loss aide. If anything, it will help your progress. I can see the concern with the LC diet because of acidosis since topomax affects metabolic CO2 levels as does LC diet. My neuro has me go in for Basic Metabolic Profile bloodwork to make sure my CO2 levels don't get too high. If you are concerned you can always ask your Dr.

So glad you're working with your surgeon on fills as until you're in the green zone it's just a diet and we know how good we all are with dieting. That's why we got banded! I have to watch out for sliders and remember to eat real food well-chewed so the esophagus does it's signaling thing. Those esophageal squeezes tell my brain I've reached satiety -- not "full" but satisfied. I listen for that and stop, even though the old me wants to keep on. I stop and clock it so I'm not going back for more until at least four hours have gone by. I count it off on my fingers and think that helps register the event. I've eaten, I'm good now until 4PM or whatever. If there are problem foods for me I get them out of the house. Don't forget to thank yourself and to Celebrate your successes -- it's a new day for all if us and here we are. Don't look back -- know that this is the right time for you. Now. Best wishes!

After finding a leak in my tubing and having it replaced in April 25. I went to my doc yesterday. I had 4 cc in after surgery and felt no restriction so yesterday he added 2 more and then ended up taking .5 out because I had difficulty drinking my Water before I left. Although I'm on liquids I definitely feel that I'm going to have restriction. I've been dealing with no restriction since August. So I hope this is what I've been waiting for. Hopefully I can get this weight off that I gained plus some! Yesterday was my 6 year bandiversary so I hope I'm back to being successful! Lets do this!

Your revenge will be rocking a new outfit with each weight loss. Ignore rude people you don't have to respond. There is always someone who wants to pee on your parade. Just keep doing what you know will help you and at your own pace. Come on girl, I weighed almost 200 lbs @ 5'0-so after losing 60 lbs I can hang with the best of them. I am way older than you. love your spunk

So instead of feeling sorry for myself I am pissed at myself!!! So all the young girls at work are doing the 30 day squat challenge and I am trying to do it too...well I have to break it up more through out the day to get all of mine done...one of the larger young girls made a comment that it will take me forever....so instead of going with the desire to bounce her head on my desk...just kidding... I told her please use me as an example of how not to let yourself go, its a good thing you are taking charge now and getting back in shape. Yes it will take me longer cause I am slower and have arthritis but I do way better when I am pissed of then when I am feeling sorry for myself... so screw the poor me crap I did this to myself only I can get myself healthy again!!!!

I had surgery on 4/21 too but I haven't gone on scale yet. I'm recovering at my parents place and they don't have one. I was also told that for a little while after surgery, you actually gain weight from swelling and Fluid retention so I've been avoiding it haha if I can make it to my 3-week check up without jumping on a scale, I'm hoping for a fabulous outcome!!! *fingers crossed*
Congrats and keep up the fabulous work!!!

I"ve been through the same thing and am goin through it now. In the a.m. I'm lucky to get anything down sometimes it's hard to get Fluid down. I'm having a lot of heartburn also. I am having a lot of drainage due to allergies so that causes a problem with pain and pressure feeling full. So I'm taking Benadryl to help dry it up. I talked to the nurse today cause I felt I may be too full with my last fill. She said it sounds like the drainage is the problem if I was too tight I would be throwing up every time I eat or drink. Maybe you have allergies but it really sounds exactly like the same problems I have.

Yes, I've had the stuck episodes in restaurants, home and other parties. It's just something we banders have to deal with. I'd like to say I always eat Soup or something soft but I don't and it's easy to get distracted and gobble our food or eat too big causing food to fill our pouches and food backs up into our esophagus. It's uncomfortable I know, but so is being fat so I'll take the weight loss over the discomforts and side effects of being banded.

Hi thankyou for the response , I hear so much about people reaching their sweet spot / green zone , but for me I have had several fills and unfills but either felt things to loose or like now , I don't now ever really feel truly hungry which is amazing really but that doesn't bother me , what does is the worry I don't manage Proteins easily especially as most say to concerntrate on them first in the diet . I dread eating out amongst others unless having something like Soup anything else generally causes me to bring it up or despite chewing well pain in my chest / port area which makes me feel unwell - when this happens I dare not even drink until the pain feeling goes , have you ever had this ?

As you describe your normal eating pattern, it would appear as though a very very small unfill would help you so you can consume more Protein and more solid foods.
Many of us struggle to get anything more than a shake in the mornings. Most of us are also tighter in the morning. My band is probably a little looser than most and I like it that way. I rely on being able to feel those soft satiety signals to tell me when to stop eating. So, for me, there's a lot of willpower going on(sometimes not much at all ) to keep from eating too much.
Yes, you may be a little too tight? And fills performed under X-Rays(fluoro here) may look OK at the time, but we all react a little differently to fills and your stomach lining may have swelled more than some others have which means a smaller stoma.

My last fill was done during barium xray , all fine but told no restriction so half a ml was put in ontop of the amount already in , soft things and liquid normally ok , mornings things seem tighter so anything more than yoghurt or Protein Shake a no no , my throat feels sore but infection has been ruled out , is it a clue to being too tight despite it being done under xray conditions ?
