stept04 reacted to TLC076 in Port still hurt ??
Hi I had mine done 4 yrs ago and port site
Still hurts specially when I get refilled as sometimes it decides to flip. I was hoping when I was rebanded on Monday due to a slip had it moved but wasn't so lucky. So yes it can be uncomfortable. My Dr always tells me to talk to it before each refill. Lol

Innie for me too. Of course, we guys have our ports just under the left breast so usually no one messes with our buttons.

I had my first fill this week and my doctor tried 3 cc. He had me drink small sips of Water too. I had terrible chest pain and he said the band was too full at this time and removed one cc or whatever amount it took until I got relief from the pain. I go back in two weeks for another fill. I hope you don't continue to have pain. I would like to know how you do with food!

I've had 8 adjustments(fill/unfill) and my doc has never anesthetized my skin. If they push hard on the port it could have just bruised the skin?

No, your port is attached to your abdominal wall. Your stomach is deeper in your abdominal cavity.

Thought I'd share just in case. I got my first fill and at first I guess because of the type of food I was eating I had no trouble with eating I thought I had no restriction, but for some reason a week or so later I got a little stuck on chicken and then it just kept getting worse I kept getting stuck worse on stuff. I don't know why it happened except to say maybe I had not developed good eating habits as far as small bites and chewing well. Getting stuck sucks so I just wanted to warn you depending on what and how you eat you could have some restriction as compared to having nothing so be careful when your eating, it could surprise you at anytime just don't want you to get stuck if you don't have to. Good luck

Sorry to hear that. Hope the band works for you as well this time around. Have you seen an ear, nose, and throat specialist to get those allergies under control? I think that would greatly help. Good luck.

Did your doctor say that you can eat right after the fill? Mine says liquids for a day, and then food as tolerated. Many doctors want their patients on liquids for up to three days after a fill.

Me and my husband both have this problem and we eat sugar-free Popsicle like their going out of style. That and sugar-free Jello is about the only thing I've found that I can eat on that doesn't have a whole bunch of calories.

Me, too -- congratulations. Right behind you! Going for mandatory information session on August 6th at which time the paperwork begins. Have checked with my insurance company and that part should go fine, so it's just a matter of getting the actual surgery date and going through whatever rigamoroll is required in advance of that. I am really looking forward to this big new change in my life. Even though we all know it will be a lot of hard work, won't it be great to have RESULTS from the hard work?

    Congrats on your weight loss.
Fills are supposed to be dependent on how well your hunger is controlled- not how much you can eat. The band isn't meant to physically stop you from eating anything. What it is supposed to do is allow you to go much longer without hunger. http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html
If you are past the post op diet and back on normal food, then you really should be eating healthy meals not relying on Protein drinks and bars for the majority of your calories. Good nutrition is so crucial.
What type of food guidelines does your nutritionist recommend?

I've been fat & thin so many times, I'll comment on my past experience (I'm not at goal yet with the band).
The last time I dropped close to 100 pounds, it took a long time for my head to catch up to the way I looked. I dated like CRAZY, and loved the attention. By the same token, I was very confused by it. Then I put the shoe on the other foot, and I totally got it. It would be a beautiful world if we were all attracted to each other by our personalities and spirit alone. Some people are, but the majority are attracted physically, first. Even when I was at my heaviest, I wasn't attracted to obese men. A little heavy, yes. WAY heavy, no. So why would I think that they would be attracted to me?
I was wearing a size 8 when I met my husband 8 years ago. And even then, I had already gained about 28 pounds, which he didn't know. What he ALSO didn't know, was that after 6 years of maintaining a perfect size 6 (sometimes a 4), I had pretty much thrown in the towel & was on the upswing. My weight climbed slowly. He said something to me once before we were married, and after my reaction, never brought it up again. He loves every single pound of me, but his biggest concern is my health, and that we have a long life together. But we're older than many on here, who are out in the dating world. Our priorities are different. With ALL that said, if I was heavy when I met him, he would not have gone for me. And I get it.....

stept04 reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in how do others treat you??
People treat me VERY differently since losing over 220 pounds. When I was over 400 pounds, store clerks ignored me. Restaurant staff looked at me with disdain. Random strangers would giggle at me. I've even been openly mocked in public.
Now, store clerks seem to trip over themselves to try to help me. Restaurants treat me like a welcome guest. Men, who I'm sure would've made fun of me before, now hit on me. Instead of being mocked by strangers, now I get friendly smiles and small talk.
...and it makes me angry. I'm the exact same person with the exact same personality, just a slightly different package. I'm not somehow more worthy of kindness just because I lost weight. It's really sad that there is such a huge difference.
As far as dating, I was single when I got my band 18 months ago. Ironically, today is my boyfriend's and my 1 year anniversary. I was still about 300 pounds when met him. I'm now around 199 pounds. We've lived together since December. He's seen pictures of me when I weighed 421 pounds and was honest- he probably wouldn't have been attracted to me when I was that big. It doesn't bother me knowing that because he was just being truthful (and I asked the question to begin with).
He knows I have a Lap Band and is very supportive. I actually told him right away when we started dating. He's taken the time to learn about the band and what it means for me so he actually understands it better than a lot of people I know. I can run up to him excited about milestones and he'll be excited for me. If I'm struggling, he tries very hard to be encouraging and supportive. I'm very lucky to have him in my life.

I am about half way to my goal and my confidence level has gone up. I am engaged to the love of my life who just got lapband himself a week ago. But men treat me differently and it's fun to flirt with my new body. I love it.

Hi there. I was exactly where you are but guess what? We are only supposed to lose 2 to 8 pounds per month (4 weeks) and the fact that you have lost 6 is right where you are supposed to be. More than likely depending on how you feel, your doctor may or may not give you a fill. You can't let what other posters post scare you. Keep following your instructions and you will be fine. You are already on your way. Keep going and good luck.

This is strictly my personal opinion, but it's a matter of works for you. I know people who do both.
Personally, I go by gross calories. If I subtract exercise calories then my loss stalls.
But, I know I plenty of people who go by net and do great.
I'd try it both ways if I were you. Do a week using net then a week using gross and see which works out better for you.

I just wait until I feel the food go through. Maybe 30 seconds? I make it a habit of ALWAYS putting my fork/spoon/chopsticks down in between bites. I used to have a bad habit of getting my next bite ready before I had even swallowed my first bite. I try not to do that now.
