Lori Jo got a reaction from ANewMe428 in Anyone cheated on the pre-op diet, but did great with the band?
Again this subject comes up. Yes you are only cheating yourself, I for one di cheat almost everyday, I was a little heavier than you but it didn't make a difference to my surgery, I went thru it with flying colors Your diet after your surgery is different, you will be able to eat mushies by week two, your band, if not filled, will only limit what you can eat. Once you get your band filled you wont be able to eat anything but what is on your list or you will vomit it up. You did a great thing, you limited your calories for that day, if you are going to cheat, do not eat ANY fat, it is to shrink your liver, if you don't have a fatty liver most docs wont make you go on a diet, I did so I avoided FAT like the plague. You can do this, we cannot change how we eat overnight or why we eat overnight, don't be so hard on yourself. If you were heavier I would tell you to not cheat. I didn't tell my doc that I cheated and they all know that we do, someone on here said that 90% do cheat, I believe that or we wouldn't need this weight loss surgery. I am an opponent of building up and not tearing down. Hang in there, you will find your way! Good luck on your surgery.

I chew gum almost all the time except when I am at the gym. I do not believe if you swallow your gum you absolutely are going to need surgery. I have chronic dry mouth which is extremely extremely painful. It even affects my glands and throat. The only thing that helps me is gum with xylitol. I chew mentos and it really is not very sticky does not even stick to my teeth. This is per my dentsy and my band nurse knows and has never told me to stop. I wouldn't anyway.

I quit diet soda two years ago. It was harder to quit than smoking. If you stay strong, the cravings go away completely. If you can get a year under your belt you will not longer like the taste. Seriously, you can quit. I was 2 liters a day for over 20 years and now I can't stand the stuff.

Sometimes I want it but my doctor says no and I have been doing so well since I started following the rule as much as possible. My go to now is low calorie gatorade but only when I have drank all my Water. You might want to ask yourself how bad do you really want that soda?

I was addicted to Diet Pepsi, and drank at least six a day before my pre-op diet.. I quit cold turkey on the day I started my pre-op diet.
Every once in a while I will take a small sip of my husband's. It immediately make my chest hurt. It is SO not worth it. I really do love Water now!!!!!

Hi Suzanne, Thank you for saying that. I have noticed some people say their doctor put them on the pre-op and they were allowed one small meal a day. I am so confused as to why my doctor has us on liquids only? Thanks for the info, this has restored my hope!

I was not required to do a pre-op diet and I have been VERY successful!! I've lost 90 pounds in 17 months!!! However, Creekwood is correct about all docs being VERY different with their own rules about LB do's and dont's both pre-LB and after surgery! You need to follow YOUR docs instructions!! VERY important. If you don't understand something, ask! Also, Mis73 is correct, there are rules to having a LB & if you want to be successful, you need to follow the rules!! I will tell you though, after being banded, if you have enough self-control to do so, you can still eat things you really want; like animal crackers...just have a couple instead of 15 !! I would not have succeeded if I had to deprive myself, so I made myself have discipline and self-control...I eat 1-2 oreos instead of half the bag; I eat 1 brownie instead of half the batch; at parties I have a SMALL piece of cake; I have 1/2 piece of pizza with my family, etc. You need to be sure you can control yourself though. Portion Control is SO important with everything we eat!!! As long as you log it & it keeps you within your daily calories without going over, EAT IT AND ENJOY!! (This is after you're banded of course) Right now, you need to do what the doc tells you. Remember, after fills you will have to be on a liquid diet for 24 hours; after EVERY fill. So, if you can't do it now, ask yourself, will I be able to be on liquids EVERY TIME I get a fill???

Lori Jo reacted to AZbandster in Lapband removed after 11 yrs - caused Heart problems
Actually, my friend who had heart palpitations had the newer band. I had 3 possible scenarious given by my doctors for the heart problems. One has to do with the Vagus Nerve that runs through the stomach and when stimulated, it can cause heart arrhythmias. The 2nd explanation is that the placement of the band lies directly over the left ventrical which is susceptible to heart beat problems. The last explanation from them had to do with the esophagus...when experiencing bad acid reflux, the esophagus can affect the heart lying directly beneath.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.
Unfortunately, this is one of the many problems linked to the small 4cc bands and why both the US and UK refuse to use them.
What angers me is so many in Mexico are still using the 4cc band to cut costs- despite the dangers like this. Dr. Kuri being one of the worst offenders, even lying to people telling them the 4cc bands are better. It's truly despicable in my opinion.
Best wishes and thanks for sharing your story as a warning to others.

There are horror stories everywhere! And then there are just as many success stories. Seek out the success stories......apply it to your own life. Can you do this? Can you give up soda? Can you eat smaller portions and bites? Can you chew, chew, chew? This is all an indvidual decision and journey!
Having this surgery is the best thing I ever did for myself. But I was "all in" when I had it. I gave up control to the process and surgeon's rules because my rules made me morbidly obese. For me, the risk of being fat...far outweighed the risks of the Lapband.
    Good luck with your decision!

No fill at surgery. Post op 6wks before first fill. The folks here are speaking the truth, an arm would be doable. Took 3 fills, 4wks apart to get any restriction and still have to watch it sometimes or I could start a bad habit.
Follow Drs orders, it does work.
