I am so excited! I am on day day 5 of my 2 week preop diet. 3 slimfast shakes per day, with a lettuce and Tomato salad with the supper shake. It is hard, but I am hanging in there. It is hard to cook for family and not eat. I can do this! Any other bandsters with same date?

Donna: I'm scheduled for my band on August 12 and I've had some of the same concerns about coughing, the band slipping or getting stuck etc. It's still not enough to cause me to put it off though. I feel like this is probably the best decision I've ever made. Even cried when I found out my date! Glad to hear you're finally enroute to your date as well. You may even see some resolution to your current health challenges once you have the surgery. Good luck!

I was told 7 days but I laughed at that. I said heck I've been married 18 years with three kids. We are lucky if we have enough strength for once a month

Countryheart2000 reacted to journeyofkeisha in Surgery Date Aug. 1st yet I'm having 2nd thoughts
My surgery is scheduled for August 1st. At first I was excited and thrilled to finally have my date. But as the date gets closer, I'm having 2nd thoughts. I had to go through 6 months of nutritional counseling, I had to see a nutritionist, I had to see a psychiatrist, and I had an EGD done. All of that time, I was committed to having this surgery. And now, I'm having second thoughts. It's the preop diet that has me thinking. The first 2 days of my 2 week liquid diet, I was fine.....and then I don't know what happened. All kinds of thoughts appeared from out of no where. Like, How did I let myself get like this? What happened to me? When did I stop caring? I was almost in tears thinking about my life. Really, what the hell happened and why am I the size that I am now. Now I'm thinking I don't know if I can do this.........DAMN. Did anyone else have these thoughts? If so, how did you overcome them?

Wow, it looks like we have a support group going here. I have had trouble signing in, so I wasn't able to post. I haven't started my post-op diet yet, I'll start on the 30th. I am weaning myself off of carbonated sodas. I drank ALOT of soda in a day but am now down to one or two, just trying to finish up the ones I have in the 'fridge. I picked up a couple of cases of non-carbonated drinks at costco this weekend. My no-caffine headache didn't last as long as I thought it would. I am ready for this surgery. I am 59 and my starting weight is around 230 lbs.

Best wishes and Keep the faith.

I love my shakes!!!!! I buy Body Fortress (Walmart around $15.) I use: 8 oz skim milk, 1-2 scoops of chocolate powder, a little Decaf instant coffee, a little peppermint extract and tons of ice and it looks like a McDonald's shake but tastes better. I am almost one year with the band but started the shakes for Breakfast March, 2012. I have a small Hamilton Beach blender that is also a drinking cup so after I put everything in I top it off with ice. I use small cubes. You really need to follow the diet and rules or it won't work. When I get a fill, my doctor has me on shakes for 3 days and then 3 days of mushy foods and then back to the real foods. I follow his rules. I didn;t have major surgery to f' around. I want to be healthier and thinner and live a long life. I have a wonderful supportive husband and family. I want to be able to play with my 3 grandsons and not sit on a chair and just look at them.
Good luck and please try harder, for yourself.

Had a set back today. Among a couple of other findings I learned my insurance has some hoops that will make me wait at least 6 mos more 'till I can get scheduled. Probably nothing new to any of you, but I am truly disappointed. Nothing that won't make me stronger and more resolved. I believe that an obstacle is nothing more than a challenge. I accept the challenge & will prevail.

My advice is to make sure you are prepared for the pre-op diet in your mind. Most of the people on here have had a 2 week "liver shrinking" diet..or "detox" diet.
You will have all the other things mentioned above, pre-op testing, etc.
Congratulations! It was a long haul for me to get my approval, I cried when I finally got it! I am 6 weeks out from having my surgery, I have lost 50lbs! It IS exciting!! What a life change.
    Good luck and God bless

I have bad knees, see a doctor. You may have to have PT or have the knee taped. I have done aquatic pt in the past and it was the best. The rehab center closed the pool, so I don't go anymore. I went 2-3 times a week for about 2 years. Loved my 'pool ladies'. I have had shots in the knees many times, surgery, so the best is see the doctor.
    Good luck with it.

I went to the hospital and I seen the dietician there. The first visit was 60.00' but she talked to me for 2 hours, and went over everything about the lap band, and had a book with all the information and recipes, she was awesome! The return visits are 35 each, but she will help to keep me on the right track.

Hi everyone, I just had surgery 10 hours ago. Dr. Cobourne and his staff were excellent. It went so much easier than I expected. I had the normal anxiety go into surgery, but when the weighed me and I realized I lost 27 lbs in the last 3 weeks it put me in a great mood. The next thing I know I am waking up in the recovery room.
I was pretty groggy when I woke and I had quite a bit of pressure in my stomach. It was not painful, but a little uncomfortable. I didn't need any pain meds just some Gas-X. I got to my hotel by 11:30am and slept the rest of the afternoon. Now I am feeling pretty good with just some pressure in my stomach. No shoulder pain just a little stomach gas.
I hope this post will help those who have not had it done yet. I like most of you have heard horror stories about surgery day and I want you to know that not everyone has a difficult surgery. Hopefully this will give you some assurance.
    Now the hard begins ..........

Countryheart2000 reacted to GinaT228 in discomfort from Port to pouch
Well here it is several days later and the redness is gone. I called the doc that day and they called an antibiotic in and I see my docs partner tomorrow for a follow up. But Friday night I had potato Soup and a few small bites of a roll. Woke up Saturday with pressure and pain in my mid breastbone area. Not sharp burning pain just a dull ache. Pressure. As if that damn roll that I should not have had is STUCK! I drank Water, hot tea, coffee, hot water with lemon, pineapple juice and even butter. You name it, I've tried it. I have not slimed. Had the urge ever to throw up. Never been nauseated nor pb'd. Just pressure. So I have to go in tomorrow and possibly have an unfill. Dammit! I honestly cannot believe I did this to myself. I really thought I was following the band rules. But I suppose I was a bit overzealous with the bread. I am hoping that this will right the wrong I inflicted upon myself and that I have not done serious damage. I have already buried the mental bread. Now to hopefully get rid of the physical bread! And can I just say, I ABSOLUTELY love this forum! I spend quite a bit of time on here reading. I hardly ever post or respond because I'm too busy reading! But such a plethora of information!
