I had a sleeve and duodenal switch done on the 10th, and they took my gall bladder out as well. I lost 20lbs in my 2 week liver reduction diet (1 week shakes and 1 meal, 2nd week was shakes only). I gained 11.5lbs from the IV's in the hospital. After 2 weeks of recovery - I am down 40lbs total and over 20 inches.
Surgery took 4 hours, recovery for 2hr, then to my room. They kept me an extra day. Went in Friday, came home Sunday. One of the PA's after my surgery swapped out my IV to one that had sugar in it - which was blowing my blood sugars off the chart. They were shooting me with insulin every 30 mins or so it seemed like. They finally figured out the problem on Saturday afternoon. Took better part of a week to get my sugars down to normal after that.
I picked up a bit of an infection on my far right incision where they took out the gall bladder. Antibiotics cleared that up after about 4 days.
I had to be on clear liquids for a week. I was up to 64-70oz and 60-80g Protein within about 4 days. Now I am easily hitting 100oz or more of liquids and can easily do 120g of protein with Premium Protein Drinks. Finally got to move to mushy foods this tuesday. So far I have had activia, hummus, cottage cheese, Soup broth, Jello. Next tuesday I should be able to move to soft foods - fingers crossed.
I had a ton of pain and got stopped up from the morphine. Day 4 I still had not passed gas or bowel movement. Ended up throwing up twice. Finally got my bowels moving with some milk of magnesia and the world changed and things made drastic improvements.

How much are you drinking and what?

The first 3 days in the hospital I was drinking nothing. sugar free Jello and Italian ice for me, and even that I was doing 1-2 oz an hour

Got my sleeve on the 28th. Gas was bad. Home now. When I drink it hurts. Maybe I'm taking to big of sips? Feels like a bomb hitting my stomach. But I did have hernia repair too.

I've had rumbly hunger pains every day since I was sleeved on 11/17. Usually in the morning. I get my required liquids in and protein. It doesn't last long usually a few minutes. I've been on clear liquids and allowed protein Water for 2 weeks. I start pureed food tomorrow, I hope the hunger subsides.

    Milk those meds then!
I remember I was getting offirnev every 6 hours, dilaudid like 4-5 times a day, and the occasional caldolor and Phenergan. I only got the Phenergan once but wow that stuff gets rid of nauseous fast and knocks you the hell out. I didn't have a lot of nausea but thst stuff is magic

That first night was the roughest. I even had to stay a 2nd night due to vomiting. It does get better. Hang in there. Try to get up and walk to get rid of that gas and don't hesitate to ask for pain meds if needed. It is easier to control the pain if you don't let it get out of control to begin with. Hang in it will all be worth it.

I agree with all the above. I would just like to add that I think that no matter how politely you try to say it, no good is going to come from you letting your bigger friends know that you no longer fit into that category. They are probably including you because you're friends and they know you understand that struggle.
They can obviously see a difference, but if you think they are purposely doing it to throw shade...that is a different conversation.
Be confident in you. scales and pant sizes don't lie.
    Have a great day!

I agree with summerset. I would add that the only affirmation that you need is from that beautiful lady in the mirror. Once you develop a great relationship with her, and see that she loves the way that you look, nobody else's opinion will matter.
Congratulations on making it this far in your journey!

So this is more of a body image issue than anything else maybe and might have little to do with your friend's remarks. Ignore it. Work on your body image. Anything you will say to them about this issue will most likely be seen as offending anyway.

Surgery was yesterday. I'm doing shockingly well. Perhaps because I'm lower BMI (35)? This is nothing compared to having my gallbladder removed a few years ago. I was asking to get up and go potty before I was fully awake. She had me wait about 10 minutes before going, and I was a bit wobbly and nauseated, but shuffled just fine. After my trip to the bathroom the nurse allowed me to walk the hall and at the end of the hall she'd pound my back/shoulders while I burped out air. I was still pretty out of it due to the anesthesia, but I think we were headed home within about an hour of waking up.
At home, I slept on and off while the anesthesia wore off, taking breaks to walk and have my husband pound my back while I burped. I knew from my gallbladder surgery that if I didn't get the air out, it would be painfully. Thankfully I was able to get all the air out by about 5pm (surgery was at 11am). I had started to feel pretty nauseated which limited my walking to about a 5 minute hotel hall walk per session, but if not for the nausea, I could have walked without limits. I can walk normally, completely without pain. I even slept on my tummy without pain. Aside from my insides/stomach and the continued nausea this morning, I feel 100% normal.
The doctor has me on Clear Liquids the first 24hr. Room temperature Water and broth. The broth tastes vile to me (and I love soup/broth). I watered it down, and was only able to stomach about 4oz (not counting the water) the whole day. I was able to get down about 32oz of water (not counting watered down broth), but it was laborious.
I'm hoping things continue to go this smoothly. I go in for a check-up and IV therapy this morning. Aside from terrible breath and bouts of nausea (which thankfully I have a prescription to help with), this morning I'm feeling way better than I had expected.

I just had mine done on Monday the 27th. The pain isn't as bad but I definitely have to get used to listening to my body a lot better!! On a happy note my surgeon said everything went well and even the upper GI scan looked good. So now to start my new journey to a better me good luck to everyone Who has their surgery coming up.

I had my surgery on 11/20, and I'm already down more than 20lbs! I can't believe how fast it's happening...

I'm on the soft Protein diet, and I'm just starting to tolerate some solid foods. Did any of you start feeling hungry after surgery? I've been keeping to my protein and fluid goals, and don't take in very much/get full very quickly, but just curious if others have experienced this?

Congrats to all the November surgeries, and good luck to all the December ones!

I was sleeved one week ago today. Only got home from hospital 2 days ago due to some breathing complications in the hospital. I feel pretty good. Taking it easy. I have quite a bit of abdomen pain but it is tolerable. Still on my liquids, looking forward to starting protein!

Surgery was yesterday, flew through it flying colors according to my surgeon. Released 22 hours after surgery. I thought it would be hard just sipping on Water but considering tum is now the size of a skinny banana, sipping is going A-okay! Lots of soreness, but now that my drain is out it’s dull pain and tolerable.

    Cheers to all November sleevers!

Torani (https://www.torani.com/) sells tons of sugar free coffee- house syrups. I have a whole "bar" set up in my house. This morning was Quest Caramel powder, coffee, Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup and ice in the blender. Some days its chocolate protien powder, 1 tablespoon of PB2, sugar free caramel and coconut milk - hello Snickers. I have both chocolate and peppermint at home right now, along with coconut, salted caramel, vanilla, black cherry and lemon. I use the black cherry and lemon in iced tea. I use the others with shakes or hot or cold coffee.

Sounds good! I have been drinking coffee Mate sugar free Peppermint Mocha Creamer off and on for the last few months with 5.5 oz. of Premier Protein chocolate RTD. Pretty good stuff. I never thought of adding the fiber in there. That is a great tip!
