I'll do the same, carry Water with me. My Dr's rules are no drinking 20 mins before a meal or for 2 hours after a meal. I like your Drs rules better!!

Thank you ladies! I've talked to my Dr at length about it and both he and my surgeon seem to think I'm not drinking enough causing concentrated urine.
Lol I learned my lesson about UTIs and sex a long time ago :-)
I will try to keep Water around constantly. Maybe start out setting alarms on my phone til it becomes habit.

aprilmmason got a reaction from wnch911 in Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
I was banded on December 18. Instructed to be at the hospital by 6 AM for my scheduled 730 surgery. I got there right around 6 and checked in. Went to a waiting room, sat there for about a half hour til I was called into the OR holding room where they started getting me ready. The first thing they did is a pregnancy test. I guess everyone under 40 gets one at this hospital. Then I got into my beautiful hospital johnnie and slipper socks.
The nurse put an anti nausea patch behind my ear that was good for 3 days. Then she started an IV. I was then given a heparin shot in my stomach. Next was 2 different anti nausea meds into the IV and my lacerated ringers (like Gatorade but through the IV). It's was then time to wait...
Anesthesia came to talk to me, then the surgical team came in. The doc was last to arrive at 730 and he spent a few mins with me explaining the procedure. My friend the anesthesiologist came back and put something that made me very happy and relaxed into my IV. I was loopy by the time we hit the OR. 8:00 Transferred to the table, mask on the face and out like a light.
Woke up in recovery at 1015. My surgery had been over since 915ish. Very groggy in recovery but the nurses were great. Have me ice chips right away. They even washed the surgical soap off of me. Did I mention that I went into the OR in one gown and came out in another?? Lol they got a free show!
My surgeon requires an overnight stay but I didn't mind. I would have come home to chaos anyway... Was nice to be able to rest. I was put on a dilaudid PCA pump and allowed to hit the button every 6 minutes as needed. I didn't need it much.
Was up walking around a few hours after surgery and even went pee. Walked a few more times then bed. 730 am barium swallow and 9 am out the door.
I would do it again in a second. I'm 10 days post op now and feel pretty good. No complaints.

aprilmmason got a reaction from ☠carolinagirl☠ in 3 weeks post op
Hi everyone. I'm just about a month post op (Banded 12/18). I'm down 16 lbs since surgery, 32 lbs total since September. I was feeling restricted in my eating until about a week ago. Now I feel like I'm eating too much before I'm satisfied. I still don't go over my 1000 calories for the day but I'm definitely more hungry than I have been in between meals and I'm not hungry at all until around noon. I force myself to have a banana or a Greek yogurt in the morning, saving most of my calories for lunch and dinner.
I go for my 1 month post op appointment on Wednesday so I will ask questions then too. They won't give me a fill until 6 weeks post op. I'm actually happy about that because my port area is swollen and sore.
I guess I really don't have a question, I just wanted to put this out there for others who feel and have felt the same way.

My doctor said whenever I felt up to it... I waited all of five days after surgery.... And now that I'm two months since surgery, OMG, sex has gotten sooooo much better!!!! I don't think I could wait 3-6 weeks... Stick to normal positions ( doggy style is your friend) don't try any of the Karma Sutra or any from Cosmopolitan Magazine and you should be fine

As with any surgery.... everyone is different. The LB is the same... no two bandsters are the same and it seems that neither or all the doctors....lol.
My doctor said that i should stay away from fibrous items like Celery and pineapple... So i do. I did try them and he was right. the Fibers ball up and get stuck.
My first few months it was easy to eat most anything.... this is when your will power is tested the most. Even though you CAN eat most anything... Should you? My thoughts is if eating bread, rice, Pasta... etc was what made us all fat to begin with, why not use our tool to stop them all together.
I have the 14cc band and i have 10.5cc in it now. These are the things that have always given me trouble: White Bread, white rice, white Pasta, over cooked: steak, chicken, pork,,
A normal days food for me: Breakfast is a cup of coffee... 30 min. later i eat one soft scrambled egg and a slice of bacon. snack is laughing cow cheese with a few Crunchmaster multi grain crackers. lunch is most likely Soup (wendy chili applebees broc/cheese) or a baked sweet potato, or a small salad (i have trouble with ice burg lett.. so i eat baby greens). Snack depends if i'm hungry.. i'll eat dried cheerios or a special k bar. Supper is either grilled chicken/fish with veggies or salad/soup. I never drink with my meals and stop when i fill full.... or if i start too burp/hiccup.... that's normally my sign to stop.
    Good luck...

Its not uncommon for your cycle to be thrown off, if it continues you might want to mention it to your doctors.

Hi Aimy! I was banded on the 18th and I'm still having pain/stiffness in port area too. Especially in the morning. It's getting better every day. I don't need help getting up but I do splint it with a pillow when coughing or laughing. I'm finding that I can't wear a bra for long though because of the pressure on one of the incisions. I have support tank tops that help too. They're supposed to be the spandex tops that hold in the rolls lol but they've been coming to good use now. The support they give feels great.

Hey tigerlillie, turn this negative into a good positive and get better prepared. Start trying Protein shakes to see which you like. Then start the light dinners with some Protein and learn how to chew the meat many many times (20-25) before swallowing. Start sipping your Water instead of big gulps and no straws. Once you know you're approved start buying some eating products you will need, most foods do not perish. (SF popsicles, sf jellos, oatmeal). Make sure you have a processor or blender and check to see if it works. I purchased lots of flavors of Crystal light and other sugar free liquids since carbonated drinks are not allowed by most doctors. Buy a heating pad if you don't have one, they are cheap at Walmart. And please use this forum to get instant tips from others.
Best wishes and Keep the Faith.

Congratulations! Merry Christmas to you! I'm 6 days post op and doc out me directly on mushies. I've been pretty much living off of Protein shakes and crystal light because I'm not hungry and mushies feel too heavy right now. I'm bringing my blender tomorrow though!! might even try some mashed potatoes.

Suzy you hit the nail on the head.... It's not complicated if you follow drs orders and eat what you are supposed to. In my opinion i never had a gain during my losing journey because I never bent the rules.
Sure there are times you want to pig out and eat something that would prevent you from losing that day but that's where the beauty of the band shines... And unlike any other diet it's a constant reminder that you just cannot do it and get the results you desire. Sometimes my band and I would go to bed early so we didn't have to consider bad choices...lol
I call the band my permanent reminder of a temporary feeling!
    Congratulations on your success!

Oops hit enter too fast lol... I decided that I'm worthy of being healthy. I've been overweight since I was 16. It's time to take care of myself 20 years later... I'm a nursing student and I don't want to end up like so many patients that I see. Much of their problem (s) can be alleviated by losing weight.
