Funny as I just posted progress pics earlier this evening ... I am 6 months out and 1/2 way there but this is the 6 month mark for me. Make sure you take pics monthly so you can see the difference and enjoy the journey

I had my surgery on May 9th..first couple of days were rough..I couldn't do anything by myself because of gas pains and port pain..as the days went on it got better..I have went back to work this week with no problems...I am on soft foods this week...waiting for my two weeks to be up(my surgeon said so) so I can go work out with a fitness trainer..I went out with friends last night to Celebrate a friend birthday...this is a before picture from February and a picture taken last night..I am staying positive and happy that I made my choice for the surgery. Hope all the May bandsters are all doing well and those that are waiting for surgery you are making the right choice. .god bless

I still eat fast food now and again. I'm a huge believer in everything in moderation. I'm pretty successful with my band. So I'm not going to deprive myself of old favorites, but I won't push it either. For instance, if I'm craving taco bell, I get a basic (not loaded up) hard taco. And I eat only what I can. I'm okay with throwing away leftovers. That helps a lot.
Like I said though, moderation. And you're okay!

I am 20 years old and dec 15 was the day that changed my life for the better! I was banded and proud of it. My life has dramatically changed and so far I'm down 50 pounds!! To make things even better I was asked out on a date by a gym trainer! ME! The girl who has always been chubby since adolescence! Going out on a date! I can't help but smile ear to ear. Sorry for venting on this thing but I can't hide my joy :-) hope everyone is experiencing many joyous events with your new lives.

    Welcome to you both !!
I’m going into my 7th year of being banded and have talked about this here several times but I think it’s worth repeating for new bandsters.
Try and take it one day at a time. Don’t compare yourself to others. Don’t go into this journey saying “I’ll never be able to eat this or that ever again.” I can eat ANYTHING except rice and apple skins and no carbonated beverages. Follow the guidelines given to you by your doctor. Remember… take tiny bites (the size of your pinky fingernail) and remember to finish what you have in your mouth before you take your next bite.
When I was losing weight I checked in every month with my family doctor to get weighed and measured. (I don’t own scales) I also attended two coffee groups for people that were banded. These things really kept me motivated and on track. I still check in every month with my family doctor to get weighed-in and I host two coffee groups. For me support from fellow bandsters plays a big part in this journey.
Back when I was banded my family doctor came up with something called the “Egg Timer Distraction”. It’s kind of difficult to explain here but I’d be happy to email you the .pdf document. It REALLY helped me with “head hunger”. I can’t tell you the number of people in my lapband coffee groups over the years that have said how helpful this “trick” has been in dealing with their head hunger.
Also, I’m not really a “diet” book type person but I recommend you pick up two books.
Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat: How to Break Your Eat-Repent-Repeat Cycle – by Dr. Michelle May
I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. May speak at a conference when she came to Toronto and her book and guidelines really work well with the lapband journey.
    The second book is:
The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite – by David L. Kessler
Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions and also if you would like a copy of the “Egg Timer Distraction Document”. --- tomander@bell.net

mariag reacted to cole&matt'smom in Almost 3 months post op
I am coming up on my 3 month post op date. I am down 30 lbs & feel great. The band had been one if the best decisions I ever made. I have beat myself up a few times during the journey due to losing 18 lbs pre-op & only 12 lbs post op. I hit bandster hell around 6 wks post op & just recently got my 2nd fill & am finally satisfied between meals. I have lost a lot of inches though. I have a scale obsession which completely owns me. (Yes, I know...stay away from the scales!) Well I tried, my husband even took the scales to my neighbors.....I sent my son to get them 3 days later. Holy smoke, I need to get a grip. Lol!!! I'm not beating myself up as much though. I have dropped 2 pant sizes so I keep reminding myself that the pounds aren't everything. One of my NSV was to be a size 12 which is only ONE size away!!!! Hallelujah!!!! Some ppl would die if they were a size 12 but that is my goal. I do want to lose 30 more lbs though. I keep telling myself that I am half way there, I've got this. I made it this far in Bandster hell surely the next 30 will be easier:) I'm posting a before & after pic. The before wad taken in Dec. (I began my liquid diet Jan 1st) the after pic was taken this past weekend.

mariag reacted to hoover123 in Good bye bandsters, hello sleevers
Never did I ever think when I got banded in 2010 I would be getting my band out and revising to the sleeve...Everything went so well. For 2 1/2 years everything was wonderful. I did my homework, I did what was expected of me and dropped about 70 pounds.. Talk about a new me. I still had like 50 pounds to go but I was on a roll and wasn't going to stop. I was on top of the world. Went back to school and found that confident person I once was before becoming obese. Unfortunetally after an unsuccessful fill due to the port twisting, everything went to crap. I had my port fixed and never found my green zone again. I am a 46 year old woman that knows her body and when something is wrong, something is wrong....after numerous attempts ( seven long months of trying to convince my doc something was wrong, like weight gain, starving all the time and horrible pain after my fills) he finally listened and sure enough I had a leak and my port lies right where my pant belt lies. Why would you put a port there in the first place? So not only did I go through physical and emotional pain. I went through a lot of financial pain. All those fills that never worked and the horrible pain I faced. I just never understood why a doctor would let a patient continue to feel this way...and yes, I have gained all my weight back and more. Talk about ashamed and feeling like a failure for the millionth time....The good news is..I fired my doctor and hired a new one (same practice, awkward, but its my body!. He is awesome, kind, very sensitive to your needs, caring and listens to you, Not like the doctors that ask you the question that you just answered to him. One time I had the doctor ask me the same question three times that I had answered. Talk about wanting to get up and walk out...So I have been blessed for a second chance per insurance. They are paying for the band removal and the sleeve. I am scared right now, but I have faith in my doctor and staff. My life will be for the better and I have much support. I have three young boys and wonderful husband supporting me and believing in me. I am not bashing the band, I am bashing the doctor that would not listen to me. He should have never let it get this bad. If I won the lottery, I would help set up a foundation for those that could not afford this surgery. It is life changing and I would want everyone to have that opportunity....obesity is just an awful disease to live with..So my new journey begins MAY 1 and I am so blessed. I think about a year from now how much healthier I will be. Plus I will finish up my schooling and be ready to conquer the world. Best wishes to everyone for whatever choice of surgery you chose...I commend all of you for taking that step. Surely a life long journey.
