Sharpie got a reaction from Bandista in Checkup with Primary Physician
I am so flattered to be your role model. I'm just a ole gal trying to stay healthy. Can't tell you how much it means to me to have everyone on here to offer advice and support. I remember when I first came on (before BP). I Had so many band folks to look up to. Missy, CG, Too much fun, B52, Catfish. All helped me stay on track.

Sharpie got a reaction from CTJohn in Checkup with Primary Physician
Had a checkup with my Primary Physician on Monday. He was extremely pleased with my lab report. A1C 5.1, cholesterol 184, blood pressure 120/76. He asked me if I felt my weight loss surgery was worth it.. I told him absolutely. He agreed. He said at my age and the weight I was prior to my surgery he worried that I might have a stroke or have some really bad issues with diabetes. So, in this post I want to tell everyone that no matter what you do to improve your health, it is so important to take control. I personally chose lapband because I didn't want to undergo a major surgical procedure at this stage of my life. I will be grateful to my surgeon forever. He has been so supportive and he is conservative with fills. I am so grateful that I now have mobility and energy to enjoy life . I am going to Alaska in a few weeks and will enjoy the cruise and all of the activites . I believe I will be able to eat healthy and stay on track but I'm not really worried about it.

Keep telling it B52, you are the poster boy for Lapband Surgery. At age 68 I am so excited about life now that I can enjoy doing things. We are leaving tomorrow for our Alaskan Cruise, I am going to ride horses I Skagway while my husband takes a train ride (he loves trains). 3 years ago I wouldn't have even considered doing the cruise .
as a side note, I had to unload horse feed the other day, husband has been under the weather. I picked up a 50# bag and it was pretty heavy but I thought to myself wow I used to carry that much and more on my body every day. Thank God for lapband and my surgeon I no longer carry that burden. Glad to see these positive stories.

I never stopped drinking coffee.. told my Dr. before my surgery if I had to give up coffee it was a deal breaker. I don't do starbucks , expensive and really to me it's not that good. most of their concoctions are very high in calories.. I have gotten a skinny latte before when I was at the airport, they seem to have a monopoly there. It was okay nothing to jump up and down about. But, lots of people obviously like it.

Cathy Picture.docxI am one of those who have sat by and have read other peoples posts. I have been banded now for 2 years. It has been an amazing journey and I would do it again in a heart beat. My decision was easy with this surgery for I did my research and understood from the beginning that the lapband is becoming a distant memory. I just did not want my insides taken out or rearranged. I am saddened how so many people put this choice of lapband down. If this lapband had to come out I would just go with out and I would understand that the weight would come back. Just remember in a few years there will probably be something new. For me I have lost 45 pounds and my biggest accomplishment is I have been off of my diabetes medicine since the day out of surgery. I would read how people would wonder if they have reached the sweet spot including myself. It has taken me 2 years to find that sweet spot and you will know. I do not get hungry as much and the thought of food has dimmed. This lapband has made it so I can not overeat if I tried. I always liked seeing how much Fluid we have in our bands for some reason and for me I have a 10cc band and I received a fill last week and now have 8cc. Wow, what a diffence it has made, I have lost another 4 pounds this week. My weight loss has been slow but I am fine with that for it took me many years to put it on. I wish everyone the best on no matter what surgery you choose for we all have one goal and that is to be healthier.

The lapband gave me quality of life again. There are certain dates I'll always remember. My birthday of course, my kids birthdays, my wedding anniversary, even the day I lost my darling husband. All of them dates of great importance in my life. I've also included the day my life changed for the better though I didn't know it yet....January 14th, 2013. The day my band was placed.

at age 66 I decided to address my weight due to serious health issues. I had my lapband 1/15/13. I have had no complications and no longer have any health issues. Best decision I ever made. short recuperation , very little pain and good steady loss. I only take vita d3 B12 and a Multivitamin. All weight loss surgery may or may not have problems. I felt for me I wanted the least invasive surgery. Do your research, don't read negative post and you can make the best decision fr you. Best of luck

HCG female hormone (I did the homeopathic) ate 500 calories a day for 21 days then had to do a maintenance phase where you could eat more calories.. I lost weight but felt so deprived I went nuts after a few rounds. Lost 50 lbs , gained back all plus more. I had no energy and lost hair. They stopped selling it in the US but I was able to get it through the internet.

You will be fine. the so called "easy way" comment is commonly heard from people who are usually overweight and think they have all the answers. I am proud of you for making the commitment to get healthier and thinner. There is a wealth of information here and a lot of support. Good Luck and let us know how you are doing.

oh so sorry to hear about the young man who was lost. I pray for his family and friends. There is no reasoning to suicide. We have experienced it in our family. You never know why and cannot think of anything except how could we have helped. Time will help with the pain and life does go on . sadly it will affect your daughter and his family and friends forever.
After that kind of tragedy you know our problems seem so small in comparison.
