    Thoughts about plication?

Hi! I had band with plicaton in November 2012. Like others, I don't know the physical comparison from band alone versus plication, but to give you my experience... I started at 325lbs in November and my official weigh-in from Thursday was 265. So, 60lbs in 7 months. Right after surgery and after my initial recovery period, I could feel the plication restriction when my band was loose. I've had 3 fills now, and I'm feeling, what I think, is band restriction now. When I do my band fills, my doctor uses fluoro, which shows the position of the band. When I drink barium, you can see the band restriction, and then after passing the band, you can see the plication as is slips right through. My doctor says its does have the equivalent of bypass results at the end. With the band, my estimated loss from my doctor is approximately 75lbs. With the plication, he estimated 130lbs. Now, it doesn't come off as quick as the bypass, but the results are equivalent. We are placing my 130lb weightloss goal between 1-3 years. Hope that gives some perspective. Best wishes to you!

    Your Last Supper......

2 words... Cheesecake Factory! I ordered the largest pasta dish, some French bread, avacado egg rolls, salad with extra blue cheese dressing... and a big honking slice of red velvet cheesecake. Yes... carb overload!
  7. I can really feel mine when I stand up. What I mean by that, is that I can feel it with my hand. Now that my swelling is down, I can trace the full circle

    New Friends Needed!!

What I have started, is a Facebook group for all of my supporters... and NON supporters. I update it daily with what I am feeling and how I am progressing. I am surprised that some of my NON supporters, have become some of the most. I think some people think that we are just lazy people and want to sit on the couch all day, eat potato chips and ice cream, and lose weight, when they feel they have to work for it. Now that they see I am eating 1/2 the calories they are, going to the gym 2 more days then they are, and I have 32 other supporters that make them look like idiots, for some, the light kicks on. I couldn't do this without the band. So, for me, it is straight ignorance of those non supporters, topped with a bit of jealousy. My psychologist told me that this would happen.

    Day 3 Post

The Unjury chicken protein powder is FANTASTIC! You just have to be careful of the fluid temperature. If it gets too hot, it turns into chunks and is no longer enjoyable. I have a friend that had RNY, and she sprinkles the chicken protein powder on all of her dinner meats.
  10. I was banded with plication on November 1st. So far, I am down 33lbs since the start of my liquid diet. I am 11lbs lost post-op. I am doing the wrong thing by weighing in daily. I know I should weigh in weekly, but it's become a slight obsession. My advice, don't weigh in daily. It can get discouraging. Some days I drop, others I stay, and yes I have gained. However, it washes itself out. Instead of celebrating daily that I lose this or that, celebrate getting into a smaller size. One thing I do notice from day to day, is that my intake increases. I am getting my appetite back. This is where it's MY accountability to diet really comes to light. The band and plication aren't my solution, but a tool! It's ultimately up to me, right? I am determined and driven for results!

    Post Op November Bansters

Hey folks! I was banded on November 1st. I guess I am one of the fortunate ones because my surgery was at 8:30am, and I was home by 1:30pm. I had the band plus plication performed. The first day, I was gassy. I didn't have much pain due to gas, but I sure did burp a lot! HAHA! After surgery, I actually went to Walmart and walked around with my family. My second day was a little more rough in that I started to feel my incisions. The burping continued. All in all, I felt fine. I got up and walked around the house, and started full liquids. That night, however, was quite rough. I had some bad acid reflux, but my surgeon had prescribed something for that prior to the surgery itself, so I was prepared. I only took my pain meds for 2 nights, and I was done. To answer the constipation question, I was put on Loratab elixir for pain. A side effect of Loratab is constipation. I didn't have a BM for 3 days, and started to get alarmed. My surgeon also suggested Milk of Magnesia for post-op. I took 2 tbs. and then I was fine. As soon as I stopped the pain meds, I went back to a more regular trip to the potty. I am 8 days post-op now, and I feel like I haven't had anything done it all. That's how GREAT I feel! I can walk, drive, clean house, just about anything. My surgeon is keeping me out for 2 weeks due to the plication, and my job is physically demanding. Each day that comes is a step easier. I can actually lay flat in a bed now! That was an amazing accomplishment! I am still on full liquids. I find it interesting in how many differences of opinion various surgeons have. My diet is progressive based on 2 week increments. I will finish my full liquid phase next Thursday, then go to Purees for 2 weeks, softs for 2 weeks, then solids for 2 weeks, and then, hopefully, no restriction. So, 6 weeks total before going back to a normal eating pattern. I don't know about those whom have been banded a while, but I am SOOO looking forward to my next phase. Soup is getting VERY old! After this, I believe I may never eat a bowl of soup, on purpose, again! I just want yogurt or cottage cheese (I've already asked, and they told me no, and not to graduate myself, let them do that)! They are the pros though, and I trust them. There has to be a reason. Congrats November losers! I'm down 33lbs since October 21st at the start of my liquid diet. More to come I am sure!

    Lap Band Buddy Under 40

I am very pleased. My surgeon told me that plication will not only decrease the chances of slips, but also accelerates the weightloss as well as adds greater percentage of excess weight loss. My surgeon also took a picture of my band and completed plication to give to my family waiting for me to come out of recovery.
