Are you drinking and eating sugar free foods? This was my issue with having a lot of nausea and gas pains. Once I stopped eating sugar free my eating ability improved drastically. I also could not consume a lot of artificial protein, such as Protein shakes or some bars.
It is my advice to try to eat real foods over the artificial stuff, that could help to alleviate the gas and nausea.

So many of us have made food our " friend" and being so restricted from our "friend" can be very difficult. But, this process will require you to find a new crutch. Food is not and never has been a friend, it is a tool that needs to used right in or to live a long healthy life.
I think seeing a therapist will help you tremendously. Also, finding new hobbies that take your mind off of food, will help you as well.
It is a slow process. Be patient with yourself and your body.

I don't know if you'll believe me or not but the answer to what do you substitute for the food addiction - is you don't. This is such a hard phase you are going thru. I have complete sympathy and understanding for the way you feel.
Right now it seems like it will be forever until you have some sort of normal life and normal way of eating. Its not forever though. Its actually a very short time in the big scheme of things.
That knowledge doesn't make it easier though. Its hard to adapt to this new way of doing things. But you will. You will look back on this day and smile. That day isn't today - I realize that.
As hard as it sounds, don't try to find a substitute to feed your habit. food. That was my habit too. Its the reason we are here and the reason it became necessary to have an operation to fight it. You don't need a substitute. You need to take the time to really understand your issues and find a way to overcome them.
You probably won't be doing any soul-searching today on this matter - I know. But you will and you are going to be just fine. In fact you will be better than ever before and when you look in the mirror at the new person you've become, both inside and out, you'll know that your substitute came from inside yourself. You can do this:)

I am glad you are going to see your doctor. Remember you are the customer! He should provide treatment and/or medication to assist you. Keep in mind that your stomach remains swollen for a while as your are healing after surgery. So, your stomach will seem to "enlarge" as you heal naturally. At seven weeks, it is still early in the process. I remember feeling impatient that I was not feeling better at two months. I know it feels like an eternity. It is going to get better. At almost five months and 84 pounds lighter, I am very glad I made this choice.
    Good luck!

All of these ladies have posted some excellent comments. I am 6 months post op. I still have to put my meat in the ninja and chop it up very finely in order to eat it. But hey.....that is ok!! You know why.......cuz I am 100 lbs lighter!!! Is it an inconvenience.....YES!!! In your original post...you didnt mention how much weight you've lost. Don't be discouraged and don't ever let yourself think that you made a mistake by having WLS. Give you body time to heal and do WHATEVER it takes, eat WHATEVER you have to or can tolerate to achieve success and your ultimate goal. GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS!!!

Hey all...just popping in to see how everyone is doing. Sleeved life is progressing nicely. I am down 100 lbs so far (21 lbs in pre-op diet/79 lbs since surgery on 11/20/14). I am so grateful for my sleeve. I've been doing moderate workouts and I am ready to kick things up a notch. I hope everyone is well!

@@Peekboo I'm doing okay otherwise. I find if I stick to Proteins, and pay close attention to my fullness signal I'm fine. Dairy can be a problem if over consumed. My main issue is remembering Vitamins. I'll forget my B12 for like a week and wonder why I'm feeling super tired.

@@Jennifer4775 it's true that everyone is different. But as I was told many times it depends on the persons eating habits before surgery. My average calories were 2100 per day. And I lost weight slow as well post op. But someone whose calorie intake was 6000 per day may lose a lot faster right after surgery because of the drastic changes to diet.
It will all even out eventually, your body will get used to the new caloric intake and begin to respond (as long as you're eating right).

MyssJones reacted to AvaFern in Do you miss anything about being fat?
I don't think this is a bad question. I don't miss anything about being fat, but sometimes I miss being able to eat away my feelings. The few times I've tried that now it has quickly resulted in puking my feelings right back up. Sometimes I miss being able to go out to dinner and eat like a normal person. Sometimes at the gym I miss being able to actually be good in MMA class. I'm too small now to be very effective at all and I generally just get bruised a lot.
Mostly though I would give up all of that all over again to be where I am now.

I lost 5 lbs at my 10 day post op apt. My doctor just said that everybody looses at different paces and not to be worried. Just make sure that I am getting the required Protein and stick to the diet and the weight will come off.

I know everyone is different. But I'm 2 weeks post op (VSG) and I've only lost 7 lbs since the surgery. I've lost a total of 17 lbs b/c of the pre op diet but I'm only 7 down in 2 weeks since surgery. First, I am grateful that I've lost any weight at all. And I realize it takes time and that I need to appreciate how far I've come and to be patient. But the main reason for my post is, I'd like to hear from others (early on at 2-3 weeks post op) on how much weight they've lost since surgery? Has anyone else only lost just a few pounds early on or did you loose a lot more in the beginning?

While you'll soon see much more weight loss.....you won't get rid of the stalls. Later on they will probably get longer too. You have to maintain your resolve and not let it get to you. I had one stall last over six weeks with no loss in weight. I would just exercise harder and concentrate more on meeting my daily intake. They eventually break and the weight keeps coming off. The sleeve has only one job......the rest is up to you.
