Yes, that is exactly how I feel. I had the VSG in December 2014. A month or so after I had horrible GERD and my “full sensor” was way off within about 6 months. I only lost about 45 pounds total in the last 4 years and decided to get the revision. I got the bypass a few weeks ago and immediately there was no sign of Gerd. I’m praying my weight loss is much better.

If you have a lot of weight to lose and/or have GERD/heartburn many docs will suggest the bypass. I completely wish I would have had the bypass years ago when I had my sleeve. My sleeve caused me outrageous heartburn and I felt no restriction after a while. And by a while, I mean months after. I felt afraid to eat and I was so hungry.
But the sleeve has been great for most people whom have it. I just can’t fathom how some people whom have the sleeve are only able to eat 6 ounces or less when I was eating full plates of Protein and feeling like I was before the sleeve. Again, I am not down playing the sleeve, it just wasn’t for me

Hey I'm currently pre op only 5 days away. I'm having mine at Mercy with Dr. Lufti. I'm very nervous and excited about it. Mostly scared about the pain and recovery as I have to start student-teaching in late January. Yikes. My surgery was originally scheduled for October 14th, but got rescheduled due to issues with my WBC. But finally I'm here.
Anybody else getting sleeved soon in Chicago? Or recently sleeved?

MyssJones got a reaction from rebirth1029 in African American vsgers!
I have natural hair and I was sleeved 12/15/14. I began noticing hair thinning and breakage around 4 months PostOp. At that point I began more protective styling, using less heat (flat-ironing 1-2 a month), taking Natures Bounty Hair, Skin, & Nails gummies, and trimming my ends every 4-6 weeks. Honestly, around month 6/7 is when my hair got back to normal. So I would say, just give it a couple months when you begin experiencing changes in your hair- eat your daily recommended Protein, take your Vitamins, and drink plenty of Water.

I will be 9 months out on the 27th of this month and was going thru my phone this morning and realized I had quite a few selfies on there. LOL
So I put some together so I could really see my progress. I think documenting your journey is so important for many reasons. Number one is to help keep you motiviated when that nasty scale may not be moving as fast as you would like.
Right now I have gone from a tight 30/32 to a 14/16 in bottoms, a tight 30/32 to a L/XL in tops. I really can't believe it sometimes. I am so close to Onederland I can taste it. I feel so good and my health is top notch now. All the problems I had before surgery are now gone or in the completely normal range. No more thyroid medicine, no more borderline diabetic, no more high pressure in my eyes, no more high cholesterol, no more Vitamin D deficiency, and I am all healed from my ventral hernia surgery I had on June 5th!! I am back to the gym and feeling great!!
I hope this post can help someone just starting out, or struggling. I know that when I was fairly new it was posts like this that really helped!!

I had a vitamix before my surgery and it has been a great addition to my WL. Costly but so worth it. Blends everything perfect and the clean up is the best. Little hot Water and dish soap and put on the base and turn on high. Raise and air dry. Not all those parts to take apart.

@@geelynn one of my favorite sweet treats with it is making soft serve with some frozen fruit, like strawberries with a spoon of unsweetened cocoa baking powder, almond milk and stevia... hits the spot! =D That's awesome you love it!

I love my Vitamix! I have the professional one, too. Makes Soups and smoothies and nut butters and on and on. However, it's a lot of money if you don't cook a lot or want to make things like that.

The short one is the "under the cabinet" version. I suggest no matter what model you end up with, just make sure to get the variable speed models. =)

I just unpacked my Vitamix this morning and made my first veg smoothie with Protein powder. Delish! Going to make the tofu carrot Soup tonight and chocolate ice cream later tonight for my kids. I am in love.

@@rfriend82 I feel that comment was extremely inconsiderate and not a portrayal of a real friend. If my friend would've said that to me, I would probably have to put a little distance between us. You need nothing but positivity in your life at this time. anyone who does not respect that should be loved from a distance!

So many of us have made food our " friend" and being so restricted from our "friend" can be very difficult. But, this process will require you to find a new crutch. Food is not and never has been a friend, it is a tool that needs to used right in or to live a long healthy life.
I think seeing a therapist will help you tremendously. Also, finding new hobbies that take your mind off of food, will help you as well.
It is a slow process. Be patient with yourself and your body.

Are you drinking and eating sugar free foods? This was my issue with having a lot of nausea and gas pains. Once I stopped eating sugar free my eating ability improved drastically. I also could not consume a lot of artificial protein, such as Protein shakes or some bars.
It is my advice to try to eat real foods over the artificial stuff, that could help to alleviate the gas and nausea.

Protein drinks and Protein Bars and the sugar free pudding still make me sick and a year out chicken and such is still hard to eat. eggs although soft almost always make me sick.
It is very early at 7 weeks. I was still on soft foods. You may be trying to push too fast or may need to try different foods. Your new tummy will like some things but not others.
Refried Beans with melted cheese, cottage cheese, Soup (no cream ones too rich) were and still are my go to foods.

My first few months was awful mentally emotionally and my tummy was tiny. Took 4 or so months to get in 3 or 4 bites which i didn't care of the amount i knew going into this the reason so it was doing exactly what it was meant to do. I have had 12 yrs of therapy. And the last 2 yrs of it was the biggest for me ..the biggest break thru. food was my friend, my comfort, it didn't talk back and it didn't hurt me emotionally but in all actuality it did affect me. My brain depended on the brain chemicals the sugar and junk released and i was addicted and it caused all sorts of diseases and health issues. I became bulemic. The first month or 2 alot of hormones are being released from fat loss. I was bitchy, grouchy i cried at the drop of a bucket. My emotions were all over the place. I understand. As mentioned earlier getting to the root of addictions are vital in order to own take responsibility and deal with and change. I am 10 months out ..6 months was my great turning point. Takes 6 months to heal inside properly according to my internist.
I understand. But your still early on and your having what i would think normal thoughts at least i relate but believe me you'll change your mind. Hang in there and its a good idea to talk to a prefessional. Not good idea to replace one addiction for another. Best wishes..

I'm also pear-shaped (meaning my waist is at least 20 inches smaller than my hips). It seems I've lost weight all over, including my waist. I started out at 402 and on my surgery date (12/15/14) I was 370. I am currently at about 335, so I've lost weight kind of slow or at a more natural pace. I still have about 135 to lose but I think I'm happy with my progress so far. I definitely recommend exercising regularly in some form (including weight training) and sticking to high Protein, high veggie diet.
