  1. I posted about this a while back. There are two causes to shoulder pain, one is gas of course. Let me guess though, it's in your left shoulder right? Well I went for a followup on Monday and my dr told me that the lingering shoulder pain is from the tube touching your diaphragm. It hits a nerve and sends pain signal to the tip of your shoulder pain. For me it was worse when I bent down. It felt like I had Excalibur inside just shoving the sword upward trying to escape. It subsided for a few days but I felt it again last night. (I'm 14 days post op) Do a search for my thread for some comments from others, shoulder pain- revealed is the title. Best wishes to you!
  2. Call your doctor! Sad can be a physiological and biological reaction to the lack of sugar. So don't stress too much about that aspect. But seriously you call your doctor and you tell him that you need something! Tell him it goes beyond just being hungry. Even if you liquify some mash potatoes you would feel better. Keep me posted! I am 14 days post op. I'm hungry yeah, until I eat then I'm fine for a small amount of time. It's the hard part of the journey. Keep me posted I'm Michele btw is 1961 your bd? I'm 1969. Lets get the Joy back in Joy1961! Add me as a friend, we got this. Are you using my fitness pal? Add me micheleost.
  3. You know we are all running to the mirror now!
  4. Ooh I bet you are so anxious! Fingers are crossed!
  5. Oh god! You are too funny!
  6. How to handle eating out with friends: How many times have you sat across from friends at a restaurant and looked at them while they spoke to you? I have learned to take the focus off of the food and made it about the socializing. ( I have weekly business lunches and a few social events in the 2 little weeks I've been banded) I sit there with my bowl of Soup and thoroughly enjoy the conversations. Those around me think I'm just eating slow because I'm paying so close attention to them. Body language is everything. Nice smile shoulders back and they'll never know the difference.
  7. That's great news! Marshawn, when they repair hiatal hernias laparoscopically it is a very delicate stitch so be very careful with lifting etc for 4-6 weeks or they'll have to go back in. ( usually by a bigger incision) I had that repaired too. If you feel pain in your back that lingers that is due to the healing of the hernia repair and not just gas. Take it easy! I'm 2 weeks post op today and doing great. In the mushy phase and I get to feel hunger for the first time, dare I day, in my whole life...HA!
  8. I was banded on a Friday and went back to work on the following Monday. I sit at a desk though. Besides needing to get up to walk around for 5 minutes every hour I was fine.
  9. Chapstick, listerine strips. Hopefully you'll be home in a few hours after surgery so make sure you have gasX and heating pad ready.
  10. The way I look at it I have crammed my lifetime share of pasta and pizza and sticky rice into the first 42 years of my life. If I don't have those things ever again well I had my fair share already!
  11. They are made from the Konja plant and they really are zero cal. Here is the upshot: they are see-through much like other Asian noodles. The come in a bag with liquid in them. You cut open the bag and it smells much like seaweed or fish ( probably from sitting in the water). Rinse rinse and rinse again. They are a little chewy. They are not HORRIBLE but not the absolute best either. You can try to make them with several different types of sauce to get what works for you. They make you feel full longer than pasta. ( there is even a supplement of Konja for dieters) I found them by called the local Japanese market. They are in the refrigerated section. I couldn't find them elsewhere. Doctor Oz sings its praise if that is worth anything to you.
  12. You will be surprised at how well you bounce back. I was driven home 2 hours after surgery, then an hour later went to pick up my scripts at Costco. You have to walk around a lot anyway to prevent clots and to move the gas around. When the dr says that you must do well enough it is because they require you to drink. If you can and don't vomit then you are well enough. Remember that a hospital has a lot of " things" floating around. You'll be in a weakened physical state and you immune system is not at its peak, sooooooo going home and resting is the best thing possible.
  13. Oh I'm so happy for you. Wishing you a speedy recovery with little gas ( ha!)
  14. Congrats and welcome to THE BEST GROUP on this board...can I get an AMEN?
  15. My nutritionist told me no coffee because it stimulates hunger. I didn't want to risk being even more hungry than I am now ( banded 10/5 I'm in mushy stage). Gum is like the straw, you swallow more air, according to my nutritionist. My doctor confirmed this. Reading here about the possibility of swallowing it just gave me added reason to never chew gum ( don't like to anyway) Of course it really is " to each his own" but I got where I am today by breaking rules, stretching boundaries, being a know it all. For me, my post op life will be completely different than my preop because I'm different and determined....to follow the rules at least that my team has for me. Gum and coffee are little things to give up for feeling great again about me!
