I have finally gotten down under 300 lbs. 296. I never want to see a 3 in front of my weight again, Heck I am worken on never seeing a 2 in front of my weight, But I am tickled to be under 3.
I have not been this weight since 2009. I can wear Jeans that I had since moved to the top of my closet, They were too small and tight.. even laying down wouldn't help. Now I can zipper them standing. The jeans I was wearing this past Spring, Literally fall off of me.
16 lbs and I will weigh what I told them on my drivers Licence. I just renewed it in April, so no new one for a while. and I will be proud to tell them the truth.
I know I have a long journey, and this is just the tip.. But.. I can now say.. I only have to lose 10lbs 15 times.. to reach my goal, and only have half of myself to lose, instead of Over half.
Yeah, I never want to see a 3 in my weight again... in any slot I think.

There is more than one technique for placing the band and some doctors place the band lower than others which does create a pouch. I've seen numerous fluoroscopic photos on this site and others that document a dilated pouch and of course, a dilated esophagus.
To answer your question, I sometimes drink with my meals. It depends on how my band is behaving on a particular day and what kind of food I'm eating. And I do follow O'Brien's 1 minute rule(sometimes cheating to 30 seconds).

I thought I would post this topic because it may help others and I wonder if others are still waiting for hours to drink after they have eaten their food.
Someone just made a post about not drinking up to a certain time after eating.
Just think about it, if you "wait" and NOT wash the food down, it is actually sitting in your esophagus, "stretching" it over time, we lap banders do not have a pouch -- like Bypass people do, although we have called it that in the past, the band actually makes a little area above the banded stomach which is actually the lower esophagus.
Well there is a LOT of misinformation going on now about not drinking and eating at the same time. When I got my band over 8 years ago, we were given the 30/30 rule to drink up to 30 minutes before a meal and not drink until after 30 minutes after we ate.

NOW -- based on new evidence that MANY lap band surgeons and nutritionist are not aware of is waiting to drink IS NOT ADVISABLE - BUT CAN IN FACT CAUSE LAP BAND COMPLICATIONS.

Could this be why the lap band complication rate in the US is so high? Could be, there is evidence by the most skilled lap band surgeon who created the green zone that waiting to drink will actually CAUSE esophageal dilation because the food must be washed through each time we eat and NOT sit in the esophagus causing to stretch, FOOD should always pass through the band and not sit for hours or days inside esophagus.

Also I do find that if I eat and drink with my new band, I still get satisfied. Also if we can't drink right after taking a bit of food without vomiting the band is too tight, food and liquids should always go past the band.

Please read this article on this subject in its entirely, I also gave this article to my own surgeon for him to review it because MANY US surgeons follow the Green zone chart to prevent complications with the band.

One of the key lessons learned from Burton’s studies was that each bite of food should pass across the band completely before another bite is swallowed. There is no pouch or small stomach above the band and there should never be food sitting there waiting.

I've been doing it for a week today and have lost 3.6 pounds. But I wasn't sticking to 1 cup servings. I was following the recipes right out of the book and getting about 1200 calories each day. This week I am going to modify my portions to lapband size portions (no more than a cup) and stay between 900-1000 calories while also carb cycling. I'm also starting the Couch 2 5k program...nervous but so looking forward to results!!

Apparently I have no self control when it comes to the scale. I got on it again this morning and I couldn't believe my eyes. I'm down 4 lbs in 2 days!!! Seriously?!? I still can't believe it. I've been stalled for a month and now the scale is finally moving, and its moving at a good pace. Thank you so much Missy for sharing this! I was starting to get frustrated and was beginning to feel like I was failing my band, but now I feel confident that I CAN lose this weight. I had my band surgery in January, and 5 more pounds will put me at my halfway point. I might make it there this week if I keep losing at this rate! Thank you thank you thank you!!

I know! I was so excited to see the scale drop. It hasn't moved in a month! I'm not going to adjust my ticker yet, though. My scheduled weigh day is Thursday (since I was banded on a Thursday). I'm kind of funny that way. I won't record a weight change until my scheduled weigh day. I like consistency .
You don't think my carbs were still a little low? I was determined to get it over 100, and that's when the Skinny Cow came in play. It was 29 carbs and only 2 grams of fat! Oh and it was yummy too

Today was my high carb day. I feel like I have eaten way too much food!
    Breakfast: Protein shake
Snacks: Apple & a Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwich (just for the carbs!)
Lunch: English muffin topped with ham and smoked gouda
Dinner: Pork loin, 1/4 c. basmati and wild rice, 1/4 c. zuccini & onions sauteed in a tad of olive oil
    Total count for the day:
    Calories: 1005
    Carbs: 117
    Fat: 26
    Protein: 84
I really surprised myself and found that increasing my carbs was more difficult than I thought it would be. Before banded, I lived off carbs. I hope I got enough in though to keep my furnace burning. I also went to the gym today and had a good cardio session. Tomorrow is going to be a little more difficult, I think. I'm having my family over for swimming and a barbeque. We're grilling steaks and I'm also going to do some roasted veggies and potatoes. No potatoes for me though, its my low carb day, and I love potatoes
I peeked at the scale this morning and I was down 2 lbs. So yippee!!

Ok, Missy. I tried it and hate it. Too much like being on a diet. BUT I dropped 3 pounds, so if that is what it takes to break a plateau, I think I can handle it for a week or so

I'll be honest, I struggle with low carb days. I never seem to get enough calories. High carb days are easy, I just eat "normal".
Today is a low carb day, here is what I'm eating:
breakfast- Slimfast low carb shake (20g protein)
lunch- salad with diced ham, shredded cheese, ranch dressing. 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese
dinner- 1 cup low fat chili mixed with 1tbsp cream cheese and sprinkled with shredded cheddar
This sends up about 900 calories and 34 net carbs. I may have another Protein Shake at some point today, too. Or a maybe a spoonful of Peanut Butter.< /p>

Well my system is all messed up from having 2 surgeries a month apart and most recently an MS relapse. I'm retaining a ridiculous amount of Water weight all in my legs, too.
So, I've decided I'm going to start carb cycling again for a couple weeks. It's worked twice for me before so I'm praying it does this time, too. I'll let y'all know!
