I feel like shooting my neighbor.
My neighboor's husband thought he could play the drums. ...well he cant. White boy aint got no rythym. (especially at 7 a.m. Sat morn) I was never so happy two people got divorced. I am probably going to burn in hell for feeling that way.

Unless you are superman with xray vision...well there is no way to know for sure what damage if any has been done. I have heard of people that have pb'd in the first few days post op (because of reactions to meds etc) and they ended up with complications. I have seen a person who pb'd daily as they were to tight....and had an unfill and supposedly tests run and her band was o.k. Its like playing the barfing version of Russian Roulette.....and of course the odds start at who placed your band to begin with.

Sharee: When I brush my teeth, I notice that if I am mucusy (sp?) it comes out too. I dont want to cause you any worry...I just dont remember ever gagging per se. Maybe we should post on Dr. Curry's thread..?

Well..I suppose it could be sliming, but either way the esophogus and stomach have to convulse to get the stuff up and out when she gags.

Whats the worst you've heard?
Thanks Lindsay!! I just had my one year bandiversary a few days ago. I will be the first to tell you that I could have lost more than the 75lbs this year if I would have been more faithful with exercise. I am now kicking it into high gear because I would like to see the last 15lbs (or maybe more..one can dream) gone by early spring. (Oh and I should say I am probably way older than you)....you will lose faster..

Well...the thread evolved during the day and the poster now thinks what her problem is ....is related to allergies and excess mucus...but originally she called it "pouch cleansing"..which she did each night by gagging with a toothbrush.

3. I would talk to my surgeon and PCP about it. I have always had this happen and my cousin isn't banded and this happens with her also. Either I blow my nose or it comes up when I'm brushing my teeth. I have always attributed this to my allergies and my CPAP. I hear you Sharee. When I started this thread (much earlier in the day) that poster hadnt come to the conclusion that it was mucous from allergies yet. She called it "pouch cleansing" and that she made herself gag, but it wasnt a pb. (but any gagging with stuff coming up..is) She also wasnt really clear on why when she laid down the stuff from her pouch would come back up and give her reflux. So because she didnt know..she didnt explain it well and when others tried to help she got upset. I am glad she is figuring out what the true problem is. I am also glad you told her to look into OTC Claritin..etc. IMHO, "gentle coughing" as she called it ..is still a pb and doing it daily (as she does..causing herself to gag with a toothbrush) could be dangerous.

OMG!!!!! I am laughing so hard....all those topics you mentioned get people on my to-stupid-to-respond-to-list. I am not laughing at their stupidity...that is (how did wheetin put it.....dismaying) I am laughing because someone else feels the same way. I could never be in the health care profession...how do bariatric docs stop themselves from calling some of their patients dumbasses? And my equivalent of loose and lose..is advise and advice...or sliming and slimming.

Whats the worst you've heard?
My favorite was from an old co-worker I hadnt seen in awhile. He said, "Wow, you have lost a TON of weight, where is the other half of you?" I could only think to reply, "Keith...there is a point it ceases to be a compliment"....then we laughed.

So true Chelle, I actually deleted my response after I saw how she was reacting to what others tried to helpfully point out. Interesting point about the FDA approval ...that would mean that unsucessful bandsters...(for sake of this argument... purposeful unsucessful bandsters) bad habits and lack of education could affect us all. I know they affect the stats which is a bummer..thats where you hear of most bandsters only losing 50% of their excess weight etc.

You are so right. People can be ignorant about all apspects of their health. I wonder if when it comes to banding most ignorance comes from not wanting to deal with obesity issues? I mean its easy to blame the tool instead of ourselves if things are not going right. I have seen someone who pb'd daily too, and thats when they got to their lowest weight..they eventually got an unfill and gained some weight back and were not happy about it. Have you heard of the "chew & spew" habit? Where you would deliberately chew your food and then spit it out so you dont get the calories? I have seen that posted on the boards. Obesity is such a ingrained part of our psychological make up that its a tremendous battle to overcome. (or put in remission) Some of these behaviors (including denial and purposeful ignorance) are a testament to how hard it really is.

My first official R&R...Bandsters who dont know a damn thing about banding
I am new here so this topic may have come up before. But one of the frustrating things for me on any band forum (or in real life) is lap band recipients who seemingly know nothing about this piece of silicone that they had implanted in their bodies. I am not talking about the newbies who are trying to educate themselves. I am talking about ignorant individuals who know nothing months out of surgery. The band slip rate has gone up and so has erosion rates....(not to mention revision surgeries)....do you think maybe its because of some people refusing to learn how to live with their bands? There are legitimate reasons some have band complications that are beyond their control...but I wonder how many end up with problems because they are simply tuned out and in denial that they are responsible for their success. What started this rant is an individual on another forum who is doing something dangerous daily and when we all post that she should stop she says her doctor knows what she is doing and we are all liars, because we must do it too. Thats as specific as I am going to be...I have decided to pass all those threads by from now on....if they want to screw up their bands thats their choice.

I am so sorry for your troubles. I know you are in good hands now! Dr. Billy is my aftercare surgeon ..I sure am glad I found him.

Mexico Doctor
I had the best medical experience of my life in Mexico. Dr. Rumbaut is banded as you probably know. Its so cool to talk to a doc that understands. He also one of the most experienced lap band docs in the western hemisphere....The hospital was clean and more hi tech than the hospital in my home town. There are many Mex docs that have good reps...I wish you well and its very wise of you to do your research. I was banded 10-12-06 and am almost at goal.

Next time, I'm goin' to Mexico!
I have been a Mexico advocate since my experience there. I am amazed at the prejudice I sometimes see from people who have never been or done research on this option. Dr. Rumbaut was amazing ..it was so wonderful to be banded by someone who has a band. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
