I have been wondering about this too.. just like everything else WLS-related, it seems every surgeon has a different answer. I am also a nervous nellie about my new tummy and am 1 month post op and still being VERY careful with what I choose to put in it.

yeah I plan on announcing it there too AFTER the fact LOL I have met a LOT of people (including a ton of nurses) who all went to Mexico for their surgery and between talking to them and watching all the youtube videos I was finally swayed.. will also keep it in mind for future plastic surgery should I need it and need to pay for it

hi everyone!! so cool to find so many nurses!! My name is Angel and I am an RN in southern CA. I have been a nurse for 3 years.. the first couple years I worked in ICU an about 10 months ago I left critical care to work OR. So far I love it!
I have a surgery date.. Sept 14th I will be sleeved! I am thrilled!! My health insurance will not cover WLS so I am self pay and going to Mexico. I have to a couple close friends at work and they are supportive.. and I told a couple others but left out the Mexico part LOL I got some weird looks when I told the first couple that I was going to Mexico which is understandable (a year ago you could have never convinced me I'd be doing this) but after tons of research I feel very comfortable with my decision. I was actually amazed at how many of my coworkers have had WLS!!

AngelBaby reacted to O.T.R. sleever in Hi sry but realy im too much afried i just now discover im pregnant 2 month after sleeve 3 month old its okk or what
Sara, first off every thing is going to be ok.
Yes it is true that it is best to wait at least a year, preferably 2 after being sleeved to conceive, but you can't change that now.
This is going to be a bit trickier than a traditional pregnancy, but you will be just fine, and so will your baby.
As was pointed out earlier you will need to keep your Obstatrition, Bariatric, and PCP in a close loop. I highly advise including your NUT in that loop. Everybody needs to be on the same page.
I highly recommend seeing a naturalist too, someone that has a lot of experience in cramming tons of nutrients into minimal foods & supplements. I'm sure you are going to be taking some awfull tasting stuff (like blackstrap molasses), but you gotta do what you gotta do now.
I promise you are not the first one this has happened to & you won't be the last. I'd also recommend journaling this experience so that once it is over you'll have it documented when the next person comes along & they're scared about what's to come.

thanks for sharing this! I got a post op diet from my doctor but I felt like it was really lacking so I've been using what other people's doctors have recommended and taking it slow. Always appreciate seeing someone else's post op plan

I am a respiratory therapist mostly in a very very busy Ed. I keep a premier shake in the Ed all the time. I am 2 months out now and tonight's the first night I have really had a dehydration issue. I worked the past 36 hr due to the hurricane and felt like death. I got about 20 oz in the past 2 days of Water so before I left I had a rn put an iv in and am currently giving my self a liter. I took off 1 month before going back to work and in the beginning my energy levels were a big issue. Milk is another thing I use to help with Protein. I also told the doctors and people I work with because they really support me and make sure I am taking care of my self, I am the type of person I won't stop till everything is done and i pass out.

I have this fear too... LOVE your honesty!! I am just 6 weeks post op and since I could start eating "real foods" again I have been so nervous to try stuff because I'm afraid of going back to my horrible pre op eating habits. I know it sounds kinda lame but I feel more comfortable at this point still having at least 1 Protein Shake a day and I usually also eat some tuna or chicken and cottage cheese or string cheese but like the other posts here said I'm amazed at how little I can eat before I feel full! I'm down 39 lbs so far and feeling great! For the first time in at least 10 yrs my BP is 120s/80s without meds!! and my energy level is fantastic!

Internally, some surgeon's stitch over the staples. If you had a hernia repair, you were also likely to have been stitched where they place the mesh that is used for the repair.
In my case, my incisions were stapled, not glued or stitched.
Different surgeons/different preferences - so you'll find lots of combinations of staples, stitches, glues, steri-strips, duct tape (well, maybe not. Unless you're in Texas - we use that stuff for EVERYTHING!).......

Here in Mo Valley. Surgery tomorrow with Dr Fadorka. I' ve been a nurse for more years than I like to admit to but am having trouble switching to patient. Don't want to be the patient who brings her whole house but neither do I want to forget whats important. Everything at home seems to be set except taking the.dogs to the sitters, which means I still have 6 dogs to bath and groom. 4 are up.fot adoption. Any takers?

hey everyone! update: I am 6 weeks out now and down 40 lbs. I'm amazed at how much better my energy level is vs pre op! I am LOVING my sleeve!!!
I'm not really loving my job these days LOL we are being required to work so much mandatory overtime (because of being on call for traumas) and I'm so over it. I'm grateful for my job but it's burning me out QUICK. I've only been in the OR for 1 year and I'm wanting to go back to critical care. I've been missing ICU so much, even with all the code browns LOL I'm on 12 hour days now but I'm even willing to go back to nights and am pretty sure I'll tolerate it better than I did pre op because I'm so much healthier now! gonna try and get my foot in the door in NICU or PICU.. but would gladly go back to adult ICU too LOL I miss putting my stethoscope on a patient... if that makes any sense.
anyway I'm grateful that in nursing we have so many options available to us!!!
hope you all are doing good and enjoying your sleeves!!! and I'm excited for all those who are about to get sleeved!

I work in cardiac cath holding so its always busy. I put a cup of Water and sip between patients ( in our break room). I also bring in Protein Shakes so i can sip on them between pts throughout the day. Ive only been back one week and so far this has worked. My coworkers all know about my surgery and its no big deal to step in and sip for 10 secs at a time. (-: I have noticed however its hard for me to concentrate since my surgery. Dunno if its after effects of anes, low carbs/sugar or lack of enough sleep. I was sleeved 10/8. Anyone else have this problem?

That's hilarious! Just imaging myself "stashing" my little liquor bottles around occasionally sipping alittle under my mask during a case! That would go over great!

@ momof3....great you were able to survive your shift. I know how you run all day at work, as a former ICU nurse. I was always glad on my shifts to just get a chance to pee!
