  1. I was sleeved 9-14-12 and I'm down 27 lbs since surgery (YAY!) and have already gotten down a size or two in clothes!! I'm thrilled! I'm in that famous 3rd week stall.. but losing inches still! I'm still on pureed type foods and want to wait til I hit 4 weeks post op to start eating soft foods but I'm getting bored with cottage cheese and refried Beans and scrambled eggs and Protein shakes LOL it's SO worth it though!!! How are YOU doing September Sleevers?
  2. So I was trying to choose between Dr. Ponce de Leon or Dr. Kelly and after speaking to Dr. Kelly I had pretty much decided to go with him... then I got a call from Laurie Wolf who said that they are running a special in August/September for only 4600 for VSG with Dr. Ponce!! is this for real? All the prices I've seen so far were 5500 for VSG by either doctor... I have 4300 now so I could much more easily come up with another couple hundred rather than 900 LOL The package includes "everything but airfare" so 2 nights in hospital, 1 in hotel Lucerne or Hacienda del Rio.. also includes getting picked up at San Diego airport... Has anyone used this lady? she was very informative and nice on the phone.. and I LOVE the price for such an excellent surgeon but I'm afraid this is too good to be true... HELP! update: I was told she gets a "wholesale price".. does anyone out there have any input or if you have used her before please let me know your experience!! I'm paranoid about getting scammed

just wondering if any of you are able to tolerate sushi with your sleeve? I just woke up and I was having a dream that I was eating sushi and now I'm praying I might be able to have some again someday LOL (I am only 10 days post op)

    Calling All Nurses.....

I work 10am to 11pm don't you love that shift?! I call it "slacker hours" because that was kinda my schedule when I was in college (before nursing school) hahaha also that first week I stashed an itty bitty bottle of water in the pocket of my scrubs (think size of those little airplane liquor bottles LOL) because I was so nervous about ending up dehydrated

    Calling All Nurses.....

hey everyone! update: I am 6 weeks out now and down 40 lbs. I'm amazed at how much better my energy level is vs pre op! I am LOVING my sleeve!!! I'm not really loving my job these days LOL we are being required to work so much mandatory overtime (because of being on call for traumas) and I'm so over it. I'm grateful for my job but it's burning me out QUICK. I've only been in the OR for 1 year and I'm wanting to go back to critical care. I've been missing ICU so much, even with all the code browns LOL I'm on 12 hour days now but I'm even willing to go back to nights and am pretty sure I'll tolerate it better than I did pre op because I'm so much healthier now! gonna try and get my foot in the door in NICU or PICU.. but would gladly go back to adult ICU too LOL I miss putting my stethoscope on a patient... if that makes any sense. anyway I'm grateful that in nursing we have so many options available to us!!! hope you all are doing good and enjoying your sleeves!!! and I'm excited for all those who are about to get sleeved!

    Calling All Nurses.....

I was nervous about that too and I work in the OR right now doing a lot of relieving other staff for breaks/ lunches so it's not like I can have food or water sitting around LOL I just figured out where I could stash a bottle of water and keep a snack in my pocket so anytime I get even 3 minutes I can drink some water or take a bite or two.. everytime I stepped out of one OR I would take 1 minute to drink water before I went into the next OR. I also figured out pretty quick who I could count on to relieve me here and there for a minute or two so I could stay hydrated that first couple weeks especially and most of my coworkers know I had surgery and have been very supportive. I think we just gotta find ways to sneak a minute here and there for ourselves and know it gets easier to stay hydrated after those first 2 or 3 weeks (at least it did for me), I think the swelling goes down and it's easier to take more sips than at first. I remember at first taking the teeniest sips LOL I was glad I had 10 days off after the surgery so I could adjust a bit before heading back to a physically demanding job

    My Biggest Fear

I have this fear too... LOVE your honesty!! I am just 6 weeks post op and since I could start eating "real foods" again I have been so nervous to try stuff because I'm afraid of going back to my horrible pre op eating habits. I know it sounds kinda lame but I feel more comfortable at this point still having at least 1 protein shake a day and I usually also eat some tuna or chicken and cottage cheese or string cheese but like the other posts here said I'm amazed at how little I can eat before I feel full! I'm down 39 lbs so far and feeling great! For the first time in at least 10 yrs my BP is 120s/80s without meds!! and my energy level is fantastic!

    Costa Rica

I had my surgery in Tijuana in September too.. I NEVER felt scared or unsafe at all. I had an awesome experience and would do it again in a second!

How Many Carbs Are You Eating?

yep all my carbs are coming from milk and beans etc so I'm not worried about it.. I DO watch the sugar and fat in foods too!

How Many Carbs Are You Eating?

now I'm gonna have to go look at where my carbs are coming from because I'm eating the same.. Protein shakes with fat free milk, some fruit, FF cottage cheese, FF string cheese, SF popsicles on occasion, tuna and chicken salad, etc. I haven't had any bread or rice or tortillas yet and I'm not adding sugar/starches to anything.. been thinking about trying to find a bariatric nutrition class or even just an in depth class because there are SO many additives these days!!!

How Many Carbs Are You Eating?

I don't have a NUT so I wasn't advised on an exact number.. just to keep it low and eat protein first and avoid 'sugar'. I just looked at my MFP and I've been getting anywhere from 40-90 grams of carbs/day. I also get 60-80 grams protein and all my water and vitamins. I typically get 500-800 cal/day, usually closer to 700-800 range for the last couple weeks. I had surgery on 9-14-12 and weighed 264 the week of surgery... today I weigh 225 lbs.. so it's working very well for me!

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

oops I meant to reply to the above quote hahaha I wanted to say that I was told at least 2 nutritious snacks per day and honestly if I didn't eat snacks there's no way I could get enough protein.. also without snacks I prob couldn't get over 500 cal/day. I'm still drinking a protein shake everyday because it helps me get enough protein AND fluids in LOL without it I wouldn't be getting 55-64oz fluids/ day.
  21. last night was the first time I ate off plan since surgery and I felt SO ashamed of myself afterward.. basically I was driving home and felt super crappy from this icky cold I have and I was hungry (I normally don't really get hungry anymore but I'm thinking it mighta been because I was so sick and my body/immune system needed more calories). Anyway the only thing around was a Taco Bell and I got one taco. I ate about 2/3 of it and was stuffed. I still can't believe I did that, it SO wasn't worth it. It was what I like to call "old behavior" because I use to eat from drive-thru's constantly when I was pre-op. Oh well... a buddy of mine says that the definition of success is "to correct upon awareness". So now I'm aware and I have a choice to correct that behavior when it comes up again.. guess we are all still learning to make better choices..

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

just wondering.. for those of you who are 5-6 weeks post op, are you eating pretty much everything now? I'm eating "real food" and still drinking a shake everyday but have been nervous to try salad or steak.. what are YOU eating?
