It's completely normal to be nervous. I had a couple rough days in the hospital with gas pains and nausea but because of all my reading and research prior to surgery I knew it was a possibilty so I knew it would pass fairly quickly. I can say at seven weeks out I am so glad I went through with it. I'm feeling healthier, more energetic and looking forward to getting off all my medications. YOU are the only person who can decide if it's the right choice for you. For me....I would do it all over again! Prayers to you and everyone else being sleeved tomorrow.

I had my introductory class the end of April 2012 and had my surgery the end of August 2012. I had to lose 20 lbs and was diagnosed with sleep apnea in the process so had to use my cpap for minimum of two months before my surgery. It all seemed to go very quickly...and I used the time for self discovery and habit changes. The more you do and stick to new habits before the surgery the more successful you will be after the surgery.

If your sleeve can tolerate Tomato products, a good quality mild salsa with balsamic vinegar and a pinch of reduced fat mexican shredded cheese is quite tasty.

I grill turkey burgers, bake steak fries, salad and a fresh fruit. I have the turkey burger without bun, a very small baked potato with greek yogurt and 1/4 to 1/2 a fresh fruit. I also do the tacos, using lean ground turkey, fat free organic refried Beans, whole grain taco shells for my boys...i forego the taco shells and just have the meat, a tiny bit of refried beans, with greek yogurt and mango salsa.

I make spaghetti bolognaise and then I just have the meat sauce with some parmesan.
I will make a casserole in the slow cooker (it is still winter here, one more week till spring) and while they will have mashed potatoes or bread I just have the meat and veg.
I make chilli and then they can have tortillas or nachos or whatever and I just have the chilli with a bit of cheese.
I do make the Emily bites 'cupcakes' and everyone loves them.
I will make a chicken chasseur with mushrooms, spinach and some sweet potato. I can only eat very little of this though for some reason.
I grill lamb leg steaks and just have the meat while others have potatoes and veg.
I occasionally have a good quality steak, eye fillet usually and grass fed, and again I just have the meat and make sides for others.
I have made small meatballs with minced venison and had these with a dipping sauce and the family can have pita bread and salad to fill.
I make curries often and just don't have the rice or noodles.
The options really are endless it just means stepping outside the rut we find ourselves in. I enjoy the recipes on www.healthyfood.co.nz and adjust to remove or lower the carb for my own portion.

Hello! Welcome. I know it helped me to focus on the fact I wasn't a slave to food anymore. Now I have more time to explore things that interest me and spend more time with people I love or even meet new people. As I lose weight I am feeling healthier, less self-concious and more energetic. All of this is much more life affirming than life depleting junk food. Hang in there....allow yourself to mourn and then think of all the positive changes.

So sorry to hear about your struggle. I know many people have done self-pay in Mexico with great results. Would that be an option for you?

I was diagnosed and started my cpap on June 27th. The machine was very quiet and as everyone has said....if the mask comes unsealed you'll hear the air forcing out. My mask is only on the nose as well. It made a WORLD of difference with how I felt during the day. However, I am looking forward to getting rid of it once I've lost enough weight!

Okay, this may not be a big NSV, but it was to me. I have never worn less than a size 22 or 24 in LB jeans, even when I lost weight on my own. But, today I stopped in LB to buy some Spanx and said let me try on some jeans. My surgery was 2 weeks ago today and I could wear a size 20 jeans! Woohoo! I don't know how much I've lost because I decided not to weigh until I go to the doctor on Wed., but I'm pretty happy with that little victory! Yay me...

My hubby has a CPAP. To me, it's like white noise in the background. When his seals started to wear out, they started to make a high pitch whistle that made me nuts. Or if his mouth should get stuck in the open position, it sounds 'off' and wakes me. But! It's all so much better than snoring!!
My favorite thing to wake to is when the cat decides to sleep on the warm snore machine and inadvertently turns it off. Her name is Stash. So I hear:
    -snort snort- DANGIT STASH!
    I chuckle every time.

That's great! I hope I am the same....I've been laying low at home since my surgery on Monday, 8/27 so I haven't reallly faced any challenges watching someone else eat. I also haven't craved anything either....except watermelon sounded good when you mentioned it! I hope the "crave monster" stays at bay for all of us!!!! Congratulations.

I am a total sweet person, loveeeee sweets. Love my Dr Pepper, love anything sweet. My husband too. I have been told by multiple people that sweets taste horrifically over sweet after surgery. Even on the pre op diet (day 6), this SF Jello is starting to taste über sweet. I don't drink the mio, or kool aid, but I can imagine those would taste awful. Funny thing is, as much as I love sweets, I can take them or leave them, I don't HAVE to have them. For me, I haven't mourned the loss of anything, bc I know that the majority of what I eat, I will be able to have again, just in a smaller portion. My daughter is lucky, she's 9 & bc of my surgery when we do go out to eat we will get an adult sized meal, but we will share & take the leftovers home. :-)

Just checking in....I was sleeved two weeks before my 49th bday back in March. I am down 83 pounds and am so thankful that I had this done. Almost to my half way mark in 6 months and am hoping to make goal within a year. The next 6 months will be harder but I am up for the challenge.

It's so amazing what a supportive group we have here. We are all done! I've found it interesting how some of us experienced no challenges and others had some or many (I had nausea, vomiting and stomach spasms). But it appears we all have agreed that it gets better each day. I look forward to continuing this journey with each of you and to Celebrate the victories and work through the struggles. Happy day August Sleevers!
