Yup I get thrush from antibiotics. To solve the problem I will either rinse my mouth out with vinegar and this makes it easier to peel up the white stuff or you can take a slower approach and eat some yogurt. Yogurt has Probiotics and it works really well on vaginal yeast infections also. I'm a natural health nut lol and these are things that I used. The yogurt will take about 2-3 days to work and make sure you leave it on your tongue for a couple of seconds before swallowing. You can also buy probiotic pills. Any type of regular yogurt will work but don't use the greek yogurt.
ETA: if you have a vaginal yeast infection also you can try inserting a tampon that is covered in plain yogurt and smearing yogurt on the outside itchy parts. This works! I've tried it and it works way better than what the doc gives you and plus IMO it's more convenient than running to the doc. My friend thought I was crazy for doing it until she developed a yeast infection and she raved about how well it worked. I also drink red raspberry leaf tea during my period and it gets rid of menstrual cramps. Works way better than advil and all you need to do is drink one cup and there will be no cramps for the rest of your period.

I think bc most of the base ones give sound nutritional advice bc they also function outside of bariatrics and are not worried about the surgeon's results as much as the patients health. This is not to say that other Nuts aren't good but SOME Nuts do cater to the wishes of the surgeons they work with when advising as far as wanting extreme low carbs etc. for example some of the Nuts in a Bariatric Center or Weightloss Clinic .My actual surgeon seems to agree with the Nutritionists at Lackland and they all work together but I know that the Nut would have no problem voicing her opinion if it differed from the surgeon bc Bariatrics isn't her sole job so she wouldn't be afraid of losing work if the surgeon was upset.
OP Sorry if it seems like hijacking but I think some of the folks who are doing extreme low carb low cal have Nuts that are part of their Bariatric Program which isn't IMO the best bc it seems like there could be a conflict of interest between surgeon and nut. It sounds like your Nut is good and I would follow her advice and your results may not be supersonic but you may be healthier overall of course this is my opinion .

My NUT and surgeon do not have their patients on low carb. It's healthy, rounded. Protein first, veggies/fruits second and starches and carbs last. I do 2 bites protein, 1 bite fruit/veggies. They also say the goal is it get to 3 meals per day and little snacking.
I like this plan. It works for me. Am I stalling? Yes. We all do. When I do, I lose inches so something good is going on here and I like it. While I wish I was shedding 5 pounds per week I am enjoying a normal life again based on the fact that there is limited real estate in my new tummy and making a choice in what goes in it is important in how I feel. I am probably getting 40-50 carbs per day. I have done low carbs for years and yes it makes me lose weight but I feel sluggish and tired. I feel great now and full of energy.
I have not eaten breads, Pasta, rice or refined sugar/ sweets. Have not even tried it. Mostly because the craving is just not there. Secondly, there is just no room. I did have a few french fries when we were out but they were not anything special. Who knew?
Lots of different opinions but in the end we need to listen to our bodies and go about it the way that is right for us.

I do find it hard to cook when I'm not hungry. I cook 90% of the time and I just eat a smaller portion of what I cook. I don't like Pasta, rice, and bread but they do just fine without it and I'm not opposed to them eating it.

Supposedly anything less than 1gram of Protein per 1 pound of body weight is low carb. My NUT doesn't want me on very low carb diet. She says that your brain needs about 100g of carbs a day to function properly. On very low carb I don't feel normal and I feel very fatigued and slower, some people make up for this lack of energy by drinking caffeine but I can't really tolerate caffeine. IMO it all comes back to the simple rules of calories in calories out, nothing special. I don't count cals because my NUT told me to stop and I focus on eating protein first and then a carb. I weigh my food and eat around 3-3 1/2 oz of food per meal. My NUT focuses on a well balanced diet and I'm happy because my body hates very low carb.
ETA: I also find myself craving protein now. It feels like my sweet tooth is gone, except for the week before my period lol. I don't like Pasta, rice, candy, soda, cake, etc. (unless it's that time of the month) I can take a bite of those and have zero desire for anymore. Nothing hits the spot like some protein lol. I get my carbs from fruit and yogurt.

You could end up like me and not lose any hair after surgery. I was sleeved in Oct and haven't noticed any Hair loss or clumps of hair falling out. My biggest regret is that I didn't look into it sooner. I thought you had to weigh over 300 lbs to qualify for wls. I'm glad that I still have many years left to enjoy this surgery Only you can decide whether or not you want the surgery. I was terrified the day of surgery but I knew that I needed this and I didn't want to back out at the last minute. Maybe 9/11 wasn't the right time but maybe in a year of two you might be ready. Good Luck

My surgeon used a 36 bougie when I was sleeved in October. I don't think the size matters, or at least when it comes to bougie size . I can only eat about 3-3 1/2 oz of food dense Protein at a time. Restriction is great! There is barely any difference in size from the 28-38. In the end it's about working your tool. Good Luck

Omg that would be a hard decision to make. My husband is in the Army and loves it. I personally would join the Air Force if I had to choose because it's more family friendly and less deployments. I wish her luck

So I've been at this for 5 months now. I am the one doing the work and I am the one working hard and eating well and sucking down Water so, pardon me.. I get to to express what I feel because they are my feelings and I won't have them discounted. if VST is not the ONE place a person can speak openly without judgement about their weight loss, then there must not be that place in existence. Not one person said they'd stopped living life and had given up on WLS working for them. if anything, we are extra vigilant and work VERY hard to make sure WE aren't the cause of our slow(er than expected) loss.
I am snappy, yep. Cause I am tired of being told how to feel about this. I will freely emote about how I feel because it's either going to come out in words or I am going to shove some chips into my mouth. If that's an issue, then maybe the Slowish losers thread isn't a place to hang out.

Just wanted to offer some encouragement to you slower losers. I have heard many professionals in my program say that when you lose it a little slower, it is less likely to come back! So keep up the good work!!

I feel like I'm losing sooooo incredibly slow. But I've never been able to say I've lost 26 pounds in 2 months so I'm trying to stay positive. I must admit I haven't been super diligent about working out. I eat approx 700 calories a day. I'm having a bit of a hard time adjusting to food. Still learning what my new stomach won't throw up. Yuck. I recommend taking photos. When you aren't seeing progress on the scale, it helps to see inches lost (unfortunately I didn't take my measurements so I've been using photos).

I've just noticed that you seem to have a fear over it. Since being here you have had some great people here (like cowgirl Jane) that are band to sleeve revisions give you great insight about the bougie size not really being a factor in success or not. And all these months later you still seem to be frighten about this surgery somehow being a failure again. It won't be a failure or success because of the bougie. It is entirely in our hands, and with that I wish you luck on you Quest for a healthier life.

My surgeon used what he thought was best for my stomach and would produce results while minimizing the risks of leaks and other complications like Gerd...
What size exactly was it? I don't know but the difference between them is "tiny"

I'm hourglass shaped. My hips are wide and I have large tatas lol. When I was at my highest weight my shape was very undefined but since I have shed 53 pounds my waist is definitely smaller and stomach flatter. My hips are still wide compared to waist. It I lift up my boobs I can see my ribs a little. Supposedly pear shaped people lose slower than apples. Even when I reach goal, I'm sure my hips will still be wide compared to my waist. My boobs will stay the same size because even at my smallest (size 8) I had DDD breast. They are definitely saggy and I know I will need a lift but I personally don't want a reduction and I've never lost weight in that department lol. If you are pear shaped you will remain pear shaped, same with apple and hourglass.

People are telling the truth when they say that they are eating smaller portions and watching what they eat! How is that a lie? VSG is only a tool, it doesn't do the work for you and people can easily gain...........maybe not right away but people have been known to gain all of their weight back or lose very little. I personally didn't sign up to be the spokes person for this surgery. Since when did keeping something private=embarrassed? Do you feel comfortable discussing the number of people you've slept with, how much money you make, how much you spend shopping, how much debt, financial/marital issues, sexual abuse, STDs, etc? If you choose not to disclose the answer to these questions, does that mean that you're "embarrassed" or "ashamed"? Privacy is something that should be respected. I highly doubt anyone can claim to be "truthful" 100% of the time.
