What Are "milk Based Soups"?
I forgot to mention, it was specifically on the bariatric (sleeve) diet at the hospital on full liquids. that and potato soup. Frankly hospital made soup is total crap...and the tomato was HORRIFIC but at home I make it quite often. I am a bit further than you are, but I like it over a scoop of cottage cheese Sounds odd, but try it LOL Umm when you are allowed heh heh

How Much?
A regular sized plate is anywhere from 9 to 15 inches so it is never a good tool for measuring. The difference between a 9" cake and a 15" cake is several different servings! You can eat (initially) what your doctor says you can. Later (after several months) you will find out what normal is for you. Likely somewhere between 3/4 a cup and a cup and a half. Average at a year is one cup. Measured in a measuring cup mind you, not on a plate And sure this question gets asked a lot...but if you don't want to answer it, don't Wouldn't that be nicer?

What Are "milk Based Soups"?
If you make it with milk it is They want to get Protein in you in any way possible. I was offered tomato soup day two in the hospital from my second surgery (they normally offer it day two for the first surgeries they do as well). I'm surprised anyone wouldn't allow it because it has been on most diets I've seen for sleeve. But god only knows each doc has to tweek it Sometimes you just have to shake your head and go along for the ride!

Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused
I'm a wine collector so this was actually a big deal for me. A friend had the bypass (she and her husband are also collectors) and she just cant drink anymore. She's about a year out on her surgery and while it's worked wonders, she misses the wine tasting experience. We are also big foodies and I wanted to be able to still eat out and taste everything I wanted. She is limited because if it's sweet or fat she ends up dumping. So no Desserts at all (she won't take a bite) and no pate, lamb, gad she's got a long list. I didn't want that for myself.

How Many Carbs Are You Eating?
My current doc does not focus on carbs as long as they're complex (ie fruits, vegis, Beans, dairy, etc). I watch fat and sugar levels but don't worry about carbs. Just for fun I did look the other day and even with a couple glasses of milk I'm still basically under 50 or so each day, sometimes more, most often less. Carbs get a bad name because of processed foods, ie white bread and candy. good carbs are part of a balanced diet and not something to be afraid of.

I feel the same way delta. I have had some sorbet, a little pannacotta, but both were at restaurants that were pretty high end and it was lower sugar than you'd get if you had it from a store...anyhoo, they were good, but I was satisfied with a few bites. I LOVED red hot candy, chocolate, ok I loved sugar and really...I have no desire right now. I hope that continues I think part of that is getting off of them during the presurgery diet...basically kicking my carb addiction Now they're a nice treat, but I don't want them constantly.- I Need Opionions On A Leak
If you did damage the new sleeve (and you are in that window of time) you need to get to your ER and call your doctor NOW. A leak can kill. It can not wait.- Afraid To Eat?
You are increasing the time it will take to recover significantly by consuming no protein. You HAVE to eat or drink something more than you are. While the weight might be falling off, it's going to stop fast because you are throwing your body into starvation mode. the weight coming off will be muscle verses fat.- I Dont Like Food Anymore
She's had issues all her life. Belimic and anorexia. Stemming from a difficult childhood. She's not been "fat" but she still comes from a place where food was a primary focus one way or another.- My Terrible Day
She's giving you information that is frankly quite incorrect. Many people do their "job" for years and do it really badly. If you accept the wrong information and give up than another bad nut wins. It's your choice of course, but this is just patently wrong information. The standard for insurance covering a sleeve is 40+ BMI with no need for comorbidities or 35+ with one or two (depending on the company) comorbidities. 50+ BMI's are still good sleeve candidates and higher than 55 are often recommended the sleeve for step one of a two step process. 60+ is done as well but you want to be sure you're working with a physician who's dealt with those higher BMI's. She's an idiot.- My Terrible Day
Make an appt with the doc and get the real story from them. My son has had a feeding disorder for years. We have met with nuts all over the country and honestly, they're 99% full of crap most of the time. It takes very little education to get the job and less brain power to keep it. Don't let some little nutcase stop your journey. Tell the doc what she said (which is total crap....this surgery is preformed on people in the 60's plus bmi as a first step). Over 40 is a typical insurance REQUIREMENT! She really has no idea what she's talking about sadly. She should be reported to her supervisor at a minimum.- Eating Everything I Can, While I Can:(

ive tried flourless chocolate cake....heh heh i think i need to make a trip to trader joes. its about an hour away but i keep hearing about their great options, including a high Protein Pasta. id love some traditional spaghetti but dont want the regular pasta. ill try the bread. do you toast it?- I Have A Question About Going To The Bathroom
you have to take care of yourself hun. i was sitting in a hospital while they were trying to send me home and i was looking up the best hospital to go to. i insisted they send me there which they did. they arent the boss but you have to demand. i likely would have died had i not pushed. i was very close. but we cant do it for you. you need to take charge or have dh do it.- What's Your New Addiction?
I find myself reserving dresses for events months forward from Rent the Runway dot com. I have six for our holiday christmas party on hold LOL I am also having a blast cleaning out my closet. I'm saving the good stuff for charity (a charity that helps women out with a new wardrobe for their career path) and frankly tossing the rest in the trash happily. When it's empty I'm gonna go shopping big time LOL- I Dont Like Food Anymore
You know my son has a feeding disorder (he has no natural hunger drive) and kids like him prefer sweet, salty and savory in BIG flavors. I am finding as I eat less that the things I used to like a little now sound great, like salsa. I had a scrambled egg with salsa and sour cream yesterday for Breakfast and it was heaven. Pre sleeve I'd have not been that excited about salsa frankly. Maybe thats the trick you should be looking for...something highly flavored (that bowl of yummies sounds good to me LOL)- Daily Total Calories
Some of those numbers are so much higher than mine. I am to get 60 G protein, keep fats and sugars low and not worry about the rest. I end up making it to 60 with a glass of oveltine many nights. I also add half a scoop of- I Dont Like Food Anymore
Good way to get it out of your system I used to eat a lot of fast food when DH was out of town (I'm a lazy cook) and I must admit I think a hit at Taco Bell sounds good LOL (soft burrito with cheese and beans...hey that's almost allowed for me LOL), but I worry the fat would bother my tummy so I haven't tried it. That said, I had a delicious crab sandwich (minus the bread) which came with steak fries and I enjoyed a couple. It's kind of nice to have a treat and not be able to eat enough to cause a problem. So have you done bread much? I'm afraid to try! I know my nut allows them this week but I think it's supposed to be toasted whole wheat....I've been too chicken to explore that kind of carbs much!- I Dont Like Food Anymore
Are you allowed to have a cheeseburger at this stage? I guess I was thinking you were 4 or 5 weeks out....bread is a nasty no no early on as it puffs up in your tummy. I believe though you've said that your program allows potatoes at this point? (Mine does). What about making up some lovely fried potatoes at home, or shoe string but make them a bit healthier again by cooking them at home? Add some sour cream and butter, just a bit, given you aren't going to eat a bunch anyhoo and indulge in that major treat while still being sort of on program?- How Often Do You Stall?
That is possibly the silliest non fact I've ever seen posted on the internet (aside from soy milk making baby's "turn gay") Are you possibly researching at clown college?- Asked For About 65 - 70% Removal Rather Then Standard 80 To 85 Percent
First and foremost, I'd ask...why are you having this surgery Bryan? Risking your life to lose weight indicates to me a desire not to weigh 400lbs? But your words belie your actions. You don't want to deal with extreme, yet you will undergo a life threatening surgery (anyone would have to say that this surgery is extreme). I'm totally confused as to the "why" at this point when reading your posts. Bryan, the plain facts are that 400lbs is an extreme weight to have reached isn't it? So let's talk about the extremes.... If you have major heart surgery you will find it can take up to 20 mins to roll over and get out of bed after surgery, with your heart racing you will slowly pull yourself up to a seated position, breath deeply for a few mins after that to slow your heart beat, then work your way up to a stand, only to have to pause to breath deeply...perhaps sit again, and start all over. If they cut half your leg off it may take you months to learn how to walk again on prosthetics. Cut half your arm off and you may take the same time to learn how to write again. Eventually with all of these, you'll regain your normal speed likely, but it takes time because you've had major surgery...something extreme, and your body has to heal. Cut out the majority of your stomach....and you can't wolf down a burger. See the correlation? It takes time to heal and for many that can be weeks and others months. I'm assuming you feel that you want the surgery to lose weight? Here's the deal...studies show that you need to leave a sleeve...just a sleeve, or the surgery is wasted. (Learned from studying cancer patients...the worse the cancer, the more stomach they took...the ones with "sleeves" saw the side effect of weight loss and lack of regain after 2 years, the ones who lost less of their stomach saw significant regain and didn't lose as much). The sleeve is hard muscle and the balance of your stomach is soft and flexible...it stretches to contain ridiculous amounts of food (ie thanksgiving dinner). If you leave part of that stretchy stomach, you leave the ability to over eat. If you want to over eat, well that's fine, but then why have the surgery? I'm three and a half weeks out from my second surgery, two months out from my first. I enjoy food and the social aspect of eating. We are big foodies and I don't expect this to change. I sat through a 4 1/2 hour, seven course dinner last weekend and enjoyed every min of it, even though I wasn't finishing each course. You can do this too. But it will take time to get your sleeve to the point where it's comfortable with larger amounts of food after the surgery. At the end of that meal people were groaning about how full they were. I was comfortable, enjoyed all but the raw vegis, and lost two pounds that weekend. I had the surgery and still regret the risks I took. I had severe complications and am still waiting to find out if more surgery is necessary. So understand that I get a bit of a chip on my shoulder when I think of people taking these risks without being committed to change their life even a little. I don't want to see one single person who ends up in a life or death struggle because they had to have that half a cheese burger too early. (Which can happen if you don't follow the program, eat smaller amounts and slower at first). My leak was not self caused...a horrible product of an internal bleed most likely, but no matter how a leak is caused, the recovery is hell. And some people don't recover. Don't have this surgery until YOU are ready for it Bryan. You're not right now, that's very clear. Don't take these risks for no reason. You'll just have to do it again (to get a real sleeve) later when you are ready, if you ever are. You need to wrap your head around the risks. You might be one of the people who, a year out, only can eat slowly (half an hour for a meal by the way is what normal people do). You will likely never have a huge plate of lasagna, half a loaf of french bread and a couple of beers in one sitting. Is that a bad thing???? Well in some minds it is, and if that's where you are, you need to walk past this weight loss option and look to something else. I probably sound half way flamming. I'm not trying to be a flamer. I'm trying to impart the reality of this surgery into your head. And yes, to talk you out of it now, at this point in your life. Later, when you're ready, it could work wonders, but not now. It's not your time I think. - Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused
