I was skinny until college. The sad thing is because I went from a size 2 in 7th grade to a size 10 in High School I was deemed as "getting fat." I fulfilled the foreshadowing that was laid out for me. I was so self conscious and was always told how pretty I am but I knew that there was an underlying tone to it. I remember never feeling like I was pretty all through college. My self esteem was shot by then. I got up to 252 lbs and met the man I love. He loved me just as I was. He encouraged me as I went on a journey to lose 52lbs. However things didn't work out because I found out he was with someone else while we were together. When I confronted him with it I of course immediately asked was she skinner than me. He told me what he thought was going to be a good thing...that his friend asked him all time if he really loved me because I was fat and he always told him yes. That was the beginning of my weight gain back to 257lbs. I'm now down to 240 and scheduled for surgery on 8/22. I've since been able to forgive my ex and he is my best friend because I was able to tell him why that hurt and tell his friend that I knew what he said about me. Now that Im getting ready for the lapband he keeps telling me that I'll change because most people desert people around them after WLS. I was able to confidently say YES I will be leaving some people behind in my new life...The Colonel, Ronald McDonald and anyone else who only sells fattening foods.
I knew one thing I had to begin to do before I had this surgery was to forgive anyone who hurt me but most of all forgive myself. I let what other people thought of me bring me to this point but I am not taking them with me from here.

I read somewhere that there is a nerve in your abdomen that runs to the left shoulder. I get the pain that you are talking about when I'm hungry and start eating too fast. It feels like a pulled muscle and makes me slow down. Strange huh?

I am 6 weeks post op and have 4.5 ccs in my band. I am getting frustrated because I have no restriction. I don't want to hear all of the "you are in bandaged hell" and you have to diet comments. I got a $10,000 surgery to help me with eating less. I know I need to be patient....

Wow a bit defensive to the word bashing. LOL I definitely have seen people bashed or given sermons for saying they can't wait to get to the green zone. Like I said, I truly understand an have not been eating more than a cup of food. I appreciate that some people want to diet. It just seems that those who are always give a sermon to those who choose to just limit their intake and eat Proteins first. It works and I am a witness. You don't have to eat cottage cheese, no Breakfast and chicken breasts everyday for the band to work. I simply shared another viewpoint and I know it is against the grain. Yes I said no bashing because we all are entitled to live and be banded as we choose. I have shared a similar thought and all the band dieters give a sermon.

I would recommend that if you still want the surgery that ask the HR person if she truly feels that your restriction is not a reasonable accommodation based on your essential job functions. Use those exact words. Companies have a legal obligation to make accommodations for temporary or permanent reasonable accommodations. If she still does not think so, ask her if she thinks it would be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act. I have a feeling that you may get your restrictions approved. If not and you work for a regional or national company, contact your integrity hotline and/or corporate HR team.

I see so many posts that say "just because you can eat a cup of food doesn't mean you should" and "eat just baked chicken and vegetables" and be Jane Fonda. My doctor and nutritionist are much more realistic. They understand that dieting for life is not realistic and they are helping me to live life in balance.

Steph1967...if you aren't intimate with him and unhappy...why not be happy without him and at least put yourself in a place to be single and prove yourself wrong about no one else wanting the loose skin. Find someone who makes your feel good emotionally and once you trust them tell them that you lost all that weight to get the loose skin. They will probably admire you and love you as you are...if they are worth having you they will

Ok. I appreciate the responses. It now feels ok when I first stand up and I can twist and turn with no issues so that's a step in the right direction. However the tug I feel when standing up straight is painful unless I actually hold my top tummy (lol) up a little.

You are making the right decision! I am 19 days post op. I have not had great successes yet but just knowing I now have a tool gives me confidence that I can do this. I had quite a bit of soreness and still have some. Pain sounds more intimidating and trust me you will be fine. You will be afraid but the commitment to take care of you will outweigh the discomforts that you will experience for a few weeks

Every doctor is different so listen to your doctor. I only had to do liquids for two days and mushies for a week. I could have gotten a full at three weeks or four. I opted for four and am scheduled a month out for my second but can get another at two weeks if I really feel I need it. My doctor has the most experience in Wisconsin and has never had a slip. Let's not pass judgement and encourage each other to follow Doctor's orders.

It started with a rash and ended in chemicals burns from the inside out and ultimately renal failure. I had a rash from hydrocodone after another surgery. As soon as I told the pharmacist that I had a rash he told me to stop taking it immediately.

It started with a rash and ended in chemicals burns from the inside out and ultimately renal failure. I had a rash from hydrocodone after another surgery. Thank you for your response I am sticking to 1000 cal, but my problem it that I need to stay away from my scale as today I am down the 2.5pounds I gained yesterday, it really upset me. So will only weight myself once a week from now on which is a friday. I was speaking to by hubby last night and he was saying that I really need to give my body the month to recover. 1 big thing that we have to remember is that the weight did not come on over night. I think my problem is that I am expecting it to be gone after 2 weeks so it's getting my head right, another thing the reason I am overweight is because of so many failed attempted on weight loss, therefore I am just waiting for this one to fail, which we know we have the best tool to help us, just to have faith and work with it. I didn't have a pre-op diet either. I wish you the best. We all fall short of what we are supposed to do at some point. Just remember that your doctor is telling you based on his experience and being dishonest with your doctor is also Wong dishonest with yourself. I started to eat soft foods a few days ahead of time and stopped losing weight. I realized that was God reminding me that I made a commitment to Him and myself to improve my temple. Don't let anyone discourage you...you will be successful because we all fall down and that doesn't matter as long as we learn from it and get back up! GOOD LUCK

It is common...it is my understanding that there is a nerve around your diaphragm that affects your shoulder. Searc for shoulder pain in the post on here and you will get a lot of information.

You would think there would be a section for this....wouldn't be a bad idea.....

I am on normal food after two weeks as well. I am sticking to 1200 calories and after a week have gained. I am still down from surgery and realize that my body kicked into starvation mode on the liquids/mushies at 600-800. I am allowing my body to adjust and wait on my fill.

We have the same banded date and I am experiencing the same thing. It truly takes a lot of self control. I lost 10lbs the first week. However since then, each time I changed to a new phase, I gained 2 lbs. I am at 1200 calories per doctors orders. I am eating a well balance meal and satiated for three hours. I have not been discouraged by the weight gain because I assume it is due to my body being confused and being sedentary. I will start working out tomorrow so that should help restart my loss. I was scheduled to get my fill on 9/20 but they said call if I felt I needed one earlier so I am going to call tomorrow. Be patient with yourself. We will both lose the weight because we are committed

If you have a good surgeon they will ensure that they test for things like sleep apnea. Don't get discouraged. Go through the process and let the doctor guide you.

8/22 banded...today is my last day of mushies. I am on to soft foods. I have not been up to grocery shopping and lifting the bags so I ordered PeaPod. I need to be sure I have healthy food ready so I am not tempted to eat unhealthy. I don't believe I have much, if any restriction, so I have to be very careful.
