all sleevers lose weights at different speeds, but 40 lbs down is wonderful in 3 months, 13 lbs a month - gotta love that

i don't really know what to say about your hunger situation - it is good to drink alot before you eat, that helps fill you up

I drink a lot of Water before i eat

You most definitely are not a failure

People do have many types of emotions they deal with at any time through this process, just as someone might have different emotions for whatever reason they might have.

    its understandable and totally acceptable

get some tissue, wipe those pretty eyes - things will get better. Do you have family/friends someone you could talk to?

wishing you the very best of luck - all us sleevers are here for you

I can relate to most of these stories. I can't wait to be known for everything else about me that is awesome and NOT my weight.
Getting nervous that I won't fit in the booths at restaurants.
Not getting that "Oh God, please don't sit next to ME on this airplaine!" look!
Not avoiding folding chairs at all costs!
Not having my middle school students snicker when I have to squeeze between desks.
Not having to hear about what a pretty face I have...to finally get compliments on the rest of me.
    To finally enjoy shopping.
And to truly be healthy...not to work my ass off without any of my ass coming off!
I'm getting sleeved on Friday 8/17, I couldn't be more excited and nervous! I had to postpone once because of my thyroid levels, but I am so ready for this! I'll keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers, please keep me in yours!

I have enjoyed reading this thread, but probably for a different reason than all of you. I just want to give a shout out of encouragement to you all. Six months ago I too was on here posting all the things that I wanted to do (or not do) when I got thin. Tonight I was able to read through all of your posts and check off all of my accomplishments. IT IS AWESOME!! I am enjoying things now that I never would have even dreamed of this time last year. I go for my 6 month post op tomorrow and I am down 111# total. If I can do it, you can too. Sooo, ROCK THOSE SLEEVES PEOPLE!! WOOHOO!!

KS Fort Worth got a reaction from thin soon in July Sleevers
Sleeved July 24th, recovery going well. Only used pain meds for 3 nights. Still 9 more days of full liquids (every Doc is different, it seems, but I am patient...) getting plenty of liquids, and Protein numbers are good. I lost about 45 pounds pre-op, so I'm not really worrying about calories right now, although I'm sure they are not too high. Just concentrating on letting my body heal. Rarely actually hungry, and the feeling seems transient. Grateful to be given this opportunity to get my weight under control, for the first time in my life.

I cant wait to dress my age.
Cant wait for my stomach not to hang over my jeans. And always look like a rice sack wearing a belt.
I cant wait to say " damn i look good in that dress"
I cant wait for people to not judge me by my appearence but by my brains and heart

I'm 51 bmi start, down to 48 now, should be much lower in 10 months when sleeving happens, I'd love to check back in then to find out how you've all gone!! Tbh I think the only reason I can stick to this new regime so easily is knowing I want to be as healthy as possible when I go under! Right now people think "OK she's heaps overweight she MUST need the surgery"... I wonder what it will be like when I'm more "normally" overweight?!?!

I am just over two years out now and I have been at this steady weight for over 10mths ( not at goal yet - regardless of what I do the pesky scale isn't moving! )! To be honest, I am not worried about maintaining or regain as I really feel mentally confident now. I know exactly how much I can eat, and each mouthful is a decision that I make.
If I decide I want a 'treat' then I trust my tiny tummy not to let me over indulge and it works!
i really think that to be truly successful, and long term successful then awareness is the key!
This site is useful too... I try to pop on most days and even if I don't post, it is good to read and therefore realise that I am not alone in this Quest for health!

I know what you mean! I'm 50, and honestly cannot imagine myself thin, as I have been overweight since childhood. But just because I can't imagine it, does not mean I'm not going there!

KS Fort Worth reacted to GreginMI in Sleep Apnea...question
I used a CPAP machine for 10 years before getting the surgery. I couldn't NOT use it before or I would feel like crap the next day. I never thought I'd be off it. My surgeon told me before I had surgery that 70% of people are able to get off the machine entirely after losing all their weight. After 120 lbs gone and only 20 lbs from goal I can say I'm finally free from that machine and the sleep apnea is cured. Thank the Lord!

It's all in how you define "sleep." If you're not reaching deep sleep because of the apnea, you're not really sleeping. 5-6 hours of quality sleep beats 8 hours of apnea-interrupted "rest" hands down.

Being jittery and afraid is totally normal, no matter how badly you have wanted this. For me, I felt like I jumped through a million hoops for my insuranace company to give approval. I did it willingly because I wanted this so bad. However, the day my approval came and the ball got rolling with all the pre-op appointments, I was suddenly terrified. It was so strange to want something so badly, but to be so scared at the same time. But all went well and now that I have done it, I have never looked back. It was the best decision of my life. Just keep remembering WHY you fought so hard for this for the past ten years and use that to power through your fears. You will do great!

You were given IV fluids; your gonna retain fluid; also you may have a TOM RIGHT AFTER because of the anesthia ; and too your body will hang on to the weight if your not getting enough fluids or calories; I'm 3 months out ; this is the experience I come from; I've only lost 38 lbs since surgery: that is still 3 -4 lbs a week; when you decide you can exercise you then will gain too. It's all part of the process; Protein is the most important!

KS Fort Worth got a reaction from funkeechiggen in Seeking A Dr That Will Fight Aetna - Aetna Says Surgery Excluded - But It Is Medically Necessary
I would suggest you contact Dr. David Kim or Dr. Wade Barker. They are both in the DFW area and do a LOT of these, so their people are very experienced at dealing with insurance. (I chose Dr. Kim but did one consult with Dr. Barker, and have nothing against their practice.) There are several other bariatric surgeons in the Metroplex who also do a large volume. I have Aetna and had no problems, but I do know that the same company can have different policies with different employers. The insurance experts at one of these surgeon's office can help you wade through the "jungle." If you've already done a lot of the prepwork, you have a RIGHT to copies of everything you've had done, sleep studies, blood work etc. Could save everybody some time. You should also be able to get a copy of your health insurance policy from either Aetna or your husband's company. Sometimes, Insurance companies play games and will deny something just to see if you will go away, and approve it on resubmittal.
Good luck, and don't give up!
