  1. p.s. I'm also thinking this is a good time to invest in a toaster oven! Would be perfect to cook her meals up in without heating up the kitchen. Plus she could even help put the food in and set the timer
  2. Great ideas!!! I was thinking about cooking chicken tenders ahead of time and freezing in individual baggies. Rotisserie chicken is even better - no cooking involved
  3. Not trying to be mean, but what about the horror stories of people who died from their obesity? Were those not scary enough to chicken you out of being morbidly obese for the rest of your life? There are risks to everything we do. People die every day. A meteor could randomly fall out of the sky and hit your house while you're sleeping in your bed. Will that keep you from sleeping in your bed at night? Don't give up!!! Make a list of what's important to you and why you wanted to have the surgery in the first place. Weigh the pros and cons. Take a serious look at where you will be in 5 years without having had the surgery and where you will be if you do have the surgery! IMO, the potential rewards far outweigh the risks. Good luck with your decision!
  4. Yah, but you're still getting sleeved before me, so YOU WIN!!!
  5. (I created a group for single parents and posted this question there also, but thought this would be a good forum to post the question.) I am a single parent and have a 7 year old daughter. I'm trying to plan ahead (surgery in 3 weeks!!!) to have meals on-hand for my kiddo while I'm doing the pre and post-op diet. I want this to be a new, healthy beginning for both of us because, let's face it, I didn't just make bad food choices for myself and she's developed bad eating habits as well! I have talked openly with her about the surgery and she is all excited and wants to eat healthier too (what can I say, I have a great kid!!!) Sooo... I'm trying to think of healthy food I can prep in advance and have in the freezer to easily re-heat for her dinners. Does anyone have suggestions or experience doing this? What worked well for your kids and family?
  6. YaY!!!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have a date yet?!
  7. October 25 is surgery date! Start liquid diet on October 18!
  8. Even more good news this morning... It appears my surgeon has recently shifted from a 2 week liquid diet to 1 week. Soooo happy to hear that! As far as the quick turn-around on the insurance approval, my insurance coordinator at the surgeon's office is well-versed on Aetna's requirements and knows many people in their approval department! I politely asked her to see if she could get an ETA on the decision time. She called me back within a couple hours and said "You're approved... What did I tell ya - I know people!". So, moral of the story is: Having a well-qualified team of insurance coordinators at the surgeon's office is important! Being polite to your insurance coordinator is equally important
  9. OK Folks, I'm trying to come up with a game plan for feeding my daughter while I'm on pre-op and post-op liquid to mush diet. Any ideas? School lunches during the week are easy. My daughter is a PBJ fan and also loves turkey sandwiches. Dinners are a bit trickier! It's hard enough cooking for the 2 of us, now I'll just be cooking for her - and she's 7! Let me know your thoughts!!!
  10. I bet that would be scrumptious with a drizzle of Torani sugar-free caramel syrup on top!! Or SF raspberry or chocolate... Mmmmmm!
  11. I'm Oct 25 too!!!!! YaY us!!!
  12. I am still in shock myself... And just got off the phone with the hospital where I'm having my EGD done on Thursday morning. It's really happening!!! BTW - My BMI is 45 and I have high blood pressure and sleep apnea.
  13. I did the 3 month track. I did OK but didn't really lose just maintained. In fact I was up 4 pounds at my last weigh-in but that's because of PMS. I usually fluctuate 4-5 lbs due to that. The last several weeks I have been drinking a Protein shake for Breakfast. As someone who never eats breakfast this was hard to do but it seriously curbs the hunger pains. I've found that I don't eat a very big lunch when I drink a shake for breakfast. I will have to do a 2-week liquid diet before surgery. I think next week I will start drinking shakes for breakfast and lunch. That way it won't be such a shock to go from 1 to all liquid meals.
  14. Just got my date --- October 25 at Baylor Trophy Club!!!! Please add me to the list!
  15. OMG!!!! Paperwork was just submitted yesterday and the insurance coordinator called an hour ago to tell me I was approved!!! Surgery scheduled for October 25!!!! EGD is this Thursday.... WoW!!!!!!!!
  16. OHHHH HOLY CRAP!!!!!! NOT MORE THAN 15 MIN'S AFTER POSTING THIS THE INSURANCE COORDINATOR CALLED AND I'M APPROVED!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOHOOOO!
  17. My paperwork was officially submitted to Aetna yesterday, so while I am twiddling my thumbs waiting to hear something (an approval, HOPE-HOPE-HOPE!), please share your Aetna experience! How long did it take for you to get an answer once your paperwork was submitted? Has anyone with a high BMI and co-morbidities been denied? If so, why? Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro? <g>
  18. Just to add to your post, I think most of us got to the point of needing surgery because we CAN'T follow the rules!!!! At least that's been my experience. To the OP: Most of us are food addicts - myself included. I think the "I can and should eat that because I want it and I deserve it" attitude is just setting yourself up for failure. Maybe not now, but down the road I think that's going to backfire on you. Just my .02.
  19. p.s. Forgot to mention I got a free consultation with a PT when I joined LOA and she gave me a suggested work-out plan. Decided not to sign up for additional sessions with her because it's more than I can afford right now!! Also, any club worth their weight will have staff that will show you how to use the equipment and explain what each machine is for - you don't need a PT for that!
  20. I don't live in NRH but I go to Lady of America Fitness. As the name implies, it's ladies only! I really like it and there are ALL body types there! Check and see if there is one near you. They have a 3-day free trial at most of the clubs. Also, the club I go to has all kinds of classes including Zumba and yoga and you don't have to pay extra for the classes. They have PT's there too for additional cost.
  21. If I'm reading the recipe right, it doesn't actually call for rice but uses cauliflower instead of the rice. OP can confirm that for us
