kimbernada got a reaction from TD41 in Amount of Food and Your Mind
It wasn't hard immediately after surgery (for the first 4 months). Although now it seems like I am sometimes putting too much on my plate - which makes me irritated because I don't like wasting food at ALL. The good news is that Veronica, my sleeve, still lets me know when I am done eating.

kimbernada got a reaction from ebonisekim in Dumping Syndrome
Also, I wouldn't say that someone who is experiencing dumping has cheated. I know a gal on another board who dumps quite easily (she's had the gastric bypass surgery). She has to eat Protein before anything else (like crackers) to avoid this. Her body just can't tolerate sugars very well.

Anyhow, ugh, how frustrating to have to have the fear of not being near a bathroom when you may need it. Was there anything common that you ate for this to happen or is it just random? Although you aren't quite a month out, so it could be that not eating solid foods completely could cause this. liquid in = liquid out. (Ewwww.)

I've found that if I haven't had a bowel movement in a few days, my body seems to say "Oh yeah? Take THAT!" Egad, totally cleaned out.

kimbernada got a reaction from rosehips in Struggles with not drinking while eating
I don't think that we (sleevers) have the issue of Water or other beverages causing food to "slide through". We still have our pyloric valve that holds items in our smaller stomach - compared to someone who has had gastric bypass and they have a man-made hole at the end of their stomach leading to their re-routed intestines. (Scary thought, isn't that?!!) Although I do have to agree that drinking will fill me up if I do this while eating. I do still take little sips if I absolutely need to. Now that I'm a little over 5 months into this, it's mostly a habit to not order a beverage at a restaurant. (Mostly, sometimes I really AM thirsty so I get a large glass FULL of ice with a little water added.)

I buy my extended release Protein Shake from Syntrax. They make a product line called matrix which comes in several flavors. I love the "Cookies and creme" flavor and have been ordering it for at least 5 months. It has a very high quality whey Protein and keeps you with a satisfied feeling for 4-5 hours. it works particularly well to jump start your metabolism at night while sleeping. For those that cannot eat enough solid Proteins or are not yet eating solids, the extended release Protein shakes are an excellent way to increase protein intake. I still enjoy drinking these shakes mixed with gelled chia seeds after 6 months. The gelled chia seeds have so many benefits, starting with fixing any Constipation issues. Go ahead and search this site and use google to perform research on gelled chia seeds as a supplement.

I took two weeks using the FMLA - Family Medical Leave Act. No PTO was used. One week was a necessity, the second week was needed (although I have mostly a desk job, so I could have gone back sooner if I had to).

    Hi All,
I can not believe that 2 years ago tomorrow I got my sleeve! I am so grateful for how my life has improved. In the last 2 years I have went from a size 24 to 4 and lost 156 pounds. I had plastic surgery last month and I am really starting to feel good about how I look. Most of the aches and pains i had before are all gone. The sleeve saved my life!
    Just had to share )

Some surgeons (or facilities) leave a drain in for the first couple of weeks after surgery. (I didn't have one.)

kimbernada got a reaction from smt216 in Muffin top has emerged! - Body changes
I really like the tank top style spandex.... that scoops below the bra. Have the Secret Solutions ones from Woman Within. I see they have another style there too that is $10 less by Comfort Choice. Anyhow, it works great for the muffin top AND it makes the girls stand out a little more. The Secret Solutions one goes down to where the leg joins the hip, so pretty far - and it doesn't leave a line either.

I totally agree. I bought the big bottle of BA chewable vitamins and finally tossed them. Yuck. I switched to adult Gummy Multivitamins until I could tolerate the OTC recommended Vitamins by 21st Century.
This is what I started taking about two months after surgery:
    Morning:
Mega Multi for Women by 21st Century
    Vitamin D - 2000 IU
    Vitamin B12 - 500 mcg
    Calcium Citrate with D
    Biotin - 5000 mcg
    Dinner:
Mega Multi for Women by 21st Century
    Iron (Ferrous sulfate)
    Bedtime:
    calcium citrate with D
    Magnesium 300-500 mg

kimbernada got a reaction from indian in Lost only 26 lbs in 47 days post op ? from 375 to 349, is it normal ?
What suzthebrit said. Just about everyone's experience is normal. I had a three week stall that started at week three. Just keep following your doctor's food plan and the weight WILL come off. I know that, for me, it was hard to comprehend just how "easy" losing weight this way really is. Easy? Well, once you know what you can eat, it really isn't hard - at least compared to dieting alone.

People, come back from the ledge. Do not freak out. First of all, size of your sleeve does not matter. You are the one who has to control what you eat from here on out. The sleeve will be like a helping hand, but not a crutch. Do not depend on it to do all the work by letting your feelings of fullness tell you when to stop eating or drinking. Your capacity will increase, and it will keep increasing for a while. One day a few months down the line you will wake up and be able to eat double what you could at 2 months out. That does not mean you should eat double. Measure your portions and learn to eat that and then stop eating. The idea is to eat till you're no longer hungry, not full. If you're like me, and you're not terribly good at recognizing that point then measure you're food and you can't go wrong.
If you're still on liquids then work to get in your Water but do not bloat yourself.

OMG! I ate everything in site! I thought I would never be able to enjoy the same foods ever again! Man was I wrong! If I could go back and do it again, I probably wouldn't eat like I did before surgery because I am enjoying all my favorite foods- just not as much of them.
