  1. glindab - did they specifically tell you no Jell-o? It is considered a clear liquid usually.
  2. jenf3 - I hear ya', I was hungry the day I got home! It sucks. I am 2 weeks out today - on mushies, transitioning to regular food tomorrow, but I am still hungry all the time. Same symptoms as before surgery, grumbling stomach, low level headache, hot and sweaty. I have tried very hard to stay low carb, but my body seems to be fighting against me as usual. The saving grace is that I can't over eat - I do have a full point now, but I am hungry again in a couple of hours. I hope my fills help with all of this. I am just trying my best to make good choices and limit my portions.
  3. I know where you are coming from. I was far from perfect on my pre-op and it almost cost me my band. My surgeon said my liver was still very large and it was difficult to get it out of the way to get the band on. I just had to have something solid, so I tried to eat as little as possible, but I think that was a mistake. One suggestion - if they allow you to have fruit in your Protein shakes, eat it instead of blending it in. I started doing that the last few days and it helped. I am not trying the scare you, but just want to emphasize the point of the pre-op diet. My surgeon started doing the pre-op diet just this year, when he had to close a patient up and bring them back in 2 weeks because their liver was too large. Do the best you can and remember that there is a reason for the pre-op diet and a reason you are making the journey.

  7. Morganbm - do you also need to lose weight? If so, the lapband may be a good choice. It will definitely help or eliminate reflux. My husband was on prilosec daily before the band, he hasn't taken any since. Our surgeon said he shouldn't ever have it again, unless something is wrong with the band. I wouldn't used the band just for a cure for that though. There are other surgical procedures that can be done for that.
  8. I agree last supper syndrome is completely normal. I definitely felt out of control pre-op. I had Mexican and a steak the 2 days before I started my 2 week pre-op diet. I also continued my McDonald's sausage McMuffin every morning for breakfast, right up to the last and even had one on my pre-op. Now that being said - try the best you can not to over indulge. Even with 2 weeks of liquids pre-op my liver was almost too large for the surgeon to get the band on. Thankfully I have an amazing surgeon and he was able to do it, but I got a lot of head shaking afterwords :-). I was hungry ALL the time also, my stomach constantly rumbling. Unfortunately that has pretty much continued with my band, but hopefully it will decrease once I am filled. I am just trying to make good food choices when I am hungry and to stop eating when I am full. I am happy to say I do have a full point, even before my plate is empty - very different than before. I am just learning to listen to it! My surgeon did have one patient that he couldn't get the band on because of liver size - he closed him up and brought him back in 2 more weeks after a liquid diet. That is when he started making all his patients to the diet.
  9. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f93/june-2007-bandsters-33199/index104.html Come join us on the June board. If you are concerned about a slip - call you doctor immediately. I doubt you have caused one with that minimal amount, but definitely stick to liquids until your doc says it is okay. Your band should be sewn in and should be very secure. I know you hear a lot about slipping, but I don't think it is real common. My surgeon hasn't had one for a very long time, he does 3-4 bands a week. The last one was on a women who had the stomach flu with severe vomiting.

  11. TracyinKS - Just checking in from the June 07 board to see how my fellow KC and Malley patient is doing! :-) Looks like you are doing well. I love your picture progress on your signature - have you shared how you do that? If so can you direct me to the thread, if not do you mind sharing? thanks, Missy

  13. Brenda - if you do a search by the physicians name you should be able to find if there are any posts about him/her. I think there is also a forum to discuss doctors. Missy
  14. <p><p>ja9VA - Join the June 2007 bandsters thread - you can keep in touch with people being banded around the same time. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=33199 3 kinds of pain pumps Epidural - catheter into the epidural space in the spine for continuous or narcotic infusions - typically used in Labor and Delivery and for big open surgical procedures PCA - patient controlled anesthesia - IV attached to a pump filled with a narcotic - patient can push a button for medication delivery at set intervals of time Localized pain pump - used at the incision site for local pain control - filled with a local anesthetic - lidocaine or marcaine usually. Pump infuses a set amount of medication continuously. This may make sense at the port site since it is an incision versus a puncture. I had not heard of anyone doing this, but not bad idea since the port site seems to give a lot a people pain.
  15. I had the same issue, I tried, but never heard back. Dan - Do you have some pull with the administrator?
  16. Losing jusme - another question - my surgery is 3 weeks after his - he would go back to work 2 days after mine - if they deny him for his surgery based on insurance, he should still be able to take off some time with me under FMLA? FMLA doesn't regulate whether the leave is paid or un-paid correct though? Meaning - legally they have to grant him the time, but they don't have to pay him for it? thanks, Missy
  17. Thanks all for the input. My husband works for Wal-mart - so I suspect as usual Wal-mart thinks it can make up its own rules. Any absence over 3 days at Wal-mart has to be taken as an LOA, since he has sick time available and surgery should qualify him, he was going to try and take 3 weeks off - 1 week as vacation the other 2 as FMLA. He is on his feet constantly with a lot of lifting and bending, so we are trying to be cautious. I went to the website and found a lot of info, but nothing that specifically states that an employer can or can not limit the covered procedures to their insurance. I spoke to my HR - she said she had never heard of limiting it to insurance either, so I am going to try and get something in writing from the labor board.
  18. If this question has been answered in another thread please direct me to it. My husband went to turn in his FMLA paperwork. He was informed that they would have to have specifics on what surgery he was having - he was trying to keep it quiet. I have figured out he probably has to submit that. BUT the real problem is they say they will not approve FMLA if the procedure is not covered by their insurance. Our insurance is through my work, not his, and the procedure is covered fully. Has anyone else had this issue or is anyone familiar with the FMLA law? I have a call in to the labor board also. thanks, Missy
  19. Garth Brooks - don't know a single name Friends in Low Places, The Dance Faith Hill - I don't know a single name, but she's pretty, and I know she is married to another C&W singer This Kiss, Mississippi Girl, married to Tim McGraw I don't know the person's name, but someone sang a song about things that "don't impress me much," and one of the things mentioned Brad Pitt. Shania Twain Dixie Chicks - Wide Open Spaces (easy, a co-worker used to play it over and over) - not to be mentioned with country music:mad: I know there's a guy named Kenny Chestnut (or something like that, sounds like Chestnut) because he has some kind of restaurant here and I've seen it on a billboard, but I have no idea what he sings. Kenny Chesney - but that is not who has the restaurant at Harrah's that is Toby Keith, I love this Bar and Grill, named after one of his songs I have been meaning to go there and try a fried bologna sandwich. I am a HUGE country music fan - figuratively and literally I enjoy it because you can understand everything that they say and they are rarely violent or offensive. Not that I have sensitive ears or am a prude - I just think there is more to music than "fu**" this or that. I don't have to plan my day around TV that is what my DVR is for! I am staying away from the camel toe/moose knuckle - what else needs to be said after those pictures! YIKES
  20. WOW thats great! congrats! Does anyone get the idea that the reason we are all over weight is that we know way too much about food :speechles !
  21. Wheetsin - Cool - we really aren't that far from each other. Do you go to any of the support groups in town? I agree KC Masterpiece is NOT the best food - I enjoy their prime rib sandwich - but I haven't been in years. My sister - who had gastric bypass - used to make us bring her just onion straws if we went, she would eat them for days! Missy
  22. BJean - I would recommend the beef brisket. Of course I have had everything fresh - so hopefully the shipping doesn't affect the meat too much! Their brisket is usually very tender and moist. I think everyone probably knows KC Masterpiece and most may not realize it means Kansas City! It is a good sweet sauce - we usually use it when cooking out also. I could never have been a wife! I don't cook, I hate to clean, and I really never planned on having kids - I love my kids and I wouldn't change a thing, but wasn't part of the plan to begin with. I knew what I wanted to be when I was 9 (an OR nurse) and I set myself up to make that happen. I didn't have to worry about the other stuff - my Mom had been a housewife all her life and when my dad died all she had to do was take care of me, so I had it pretty good growing up also. I do regret not learning to cook or eat more healthy obviously - but now we are going to do something about that also and hopefully teach our kids better habits! My 4 year olds favorite channel is the food network though and she calls Paula Dean her friend - so I am a little concerned!:omg: We are planning doing the clean out this weekend and only have healthy stuff around for kids also. Wheetsin - We are being banded by Dr. Malley at MMC. We live in Belton. Where are you? I do enjoy Gates also, but I don't care for their sauce, I think it has too much pepper, but they do cook their meat well. I wasn't even going to start on the cheesy corn bake - man that is too die for!:hungry:
  23. http://www.jackstackbbq.com/ I have to throw KC BBQ into the mix. It is amazing how regional BBQ is. The restaurant above is my personal favorite - there are no better beans! They ship around the world. You guys all crack me up. I hadn't been to this thread in awhile so I had to catch up. Good thing I have my own office! I do have wife! My husband cooks, cleans and stays home with the kids, can't beat that! I get to hog the remote, control the money, and demand sex whenever I want! We are definitely role-reversed most of the time - but I guess that is why it works! We have our pre-op appointment on Friday and can't wait to join bandland. MsDad - I so hope things work out for you! Missy
  24. I agree with Tracy, start now, when dealing with insurance the process can take awhile. You could have surgery even when breast feeding. You would just have to pump before and waste for 24-48hrs (confirm with anesthesiologist) after. You will want to specifically ask your insurance what their requirments are to get approved, but also after you are approved. I think I have read the same thing from someone else on here - they couldn't lose too much or the insurance wouldn't pay. Key is how or when is the insurance going to review, once initial approval is given. I think 40 is the magic number for most insurances carriers or 35 with co-morbidities.
  25. Someone on another thread suggested purchasing samples of several products to find something you may like or at least tolerate. I thought this was a great idea - I am a very picky eater - funny for a fat person, but I am. My husband and I are both having the band - we are three weeks apart and both have to do a pre-op liquid diet, so we will be on Protein shakes for at least 2 - 3 months between us. I ordered samples last week and most of them arrived this weekend, so I guess we will start tasting! These are the websites that I found that offer cheap samples.
