  1. I hope I hope I hope!! I always thought I was 5'6- I could have sworn being measured as a teen and being told I was 5'6 and even 5'6 and a half once! Heck I used to push it and tell people I was 5'7! To my shock and horror I was measured recently and I'm 5'5!! WHAT THE... I've been wondering if it's possible that weight over time and compress on you and make you shrink-idk (if so yikes my poor bones!) but I would LOVE to gain my mysteriously vanished inch back! Fingers and toes crossed!
  2. Good luck on the sleep study! I hated mine with the CPAP- glad to hear your doing good with it!
  3. Gonna ditto a lot of what others said- there are lots of healthy options here in NYC. Go to the Whole Foods site and look up store location-there are at least a half a dozen through out that city. Also restaurants are pretty accomadating here if you ask for a special order when eating out. I know it might be tougher to eat right when on vacation but your in a very health conscious city so trust me there are lots of good choices you can make. Good luck!
  4. ME!! lol I don't have a date yet either but they told me October also! I get my date September 18th at my last surgeons appointment can't wait!
  5. I noticed too. I looked for my subcribed threads on the app and it's blank. Maybe its a glitch since they updatted things last n I g h t, hopefully it adjusts!
  6. If you check out the plastic surgery board on OH there are a lot of ppl who went to Mexico. There is even a forum for patients of Dr Sauceda who seems to be very good. I'm still pre op but already looking into plastics since I know I'm going to need some.
  7. Thanks Justine! it definitly is emotional and i know its going to be some hard work, but I KNOW It will be worth it! I'm almost done with my pre op stuff. I have my last NUT appointment next week, then the psych and pulmonary the beginning of sept and my final appointment w my surgeon sept 18th when I get my date! They already told me it would be in October. I'm super excited, nervous and so many other emotions all at the same time! Do you have a date yet?
  8. Wow WTH? I know in another thread the word s n a t c h was blocked out. Seriously? They must think we're a bunch of awful nasty folks on here lol
  9. Not trying to thread jack lol but I could really use some buddies! I feel kind of alone in this process- I was suppose to be going through this with a friend of mine but she changed her mind and our friendship had become very rocky. So I really feel like I'm on my own now. I'll be sleeved in October (no date yet) anyone who wants to talk feel free to message me!
  10. I know how you feel. When I was 16 I tried to pursue WLS and I wasn't able to have it. I was going to have the band, I found a surgeon who was even willing to take me even though I was under 18 but insurance wouldn't approve it. I know it sucks but looking back now I don't think I was quite mature enough for it. I began to pursue it again when I was 18 an for other reasons didn't do it then, though I REALLY wish I did when I was 18. I originally went through mount sini in Manhattan and dr Kini took me on when I was 16. You may want to look into him, he was very nice and he accepts Medicaid (I had medicaid/Health First) Good luck!
  11. It is interesting to see everyones comparisons. Sizing has always been something that was so strange to me- how someone could weight 100lbs less then me and be in the same size. It definitly depends on height, shape, distribution. No two bodies are the same. I'm 5'5, my weight is distributed pretty evenly but I have big thighs, and a pretty big stomach- I'm about 370 now and in a size 26- I can fit into some 24's also. When I was at my lowest weight I was 270 and wore a size 16/18. I cant wait to get there again!
  12. I think you guys will be fine! My experience seems to be a pretty rare occurrence from what I've seen. Good luck and let us know how they go!
  13. I think it comes down to semantics. You call it a pouch, I call it a sleeve. As long as we all understand the shape and size are different from the RNY stomach it's just a matter of what we're referring to it as.
  14. I'm doing the same thing. I'll be sleeve in October, and while my Dr dosen't require a pre op diet I'm doing one anyway. I'd like to loose 20-30lbs by October so hopefully I can- lost 6 so far so fingers crossed! Im just following a low carb eating plan, lots of protein and veggies, water- cut out soda. I'm also going to do liquids the week before though my dr doesn't require it. Good luck!
  15. 1- Sweating. With out a doubt my number one thing. I sweat in 20 degrees for crying out loud, don't even start me on the summer. It will be nice to actually keep my makeup in tact and not sweat it off before I even get where im going. 2- Getting out of breath. I get winded walking a block. Stairs are almost unbearable. It will be nice to walk s few blocks with out feeling like in dropping dead. 3- Normal clothes. When I say normal I mean anything below a 20. I wear a size 26- possibly 28 (Can we say denial? Didnt want to go up anymore) it be nice to be able to go into regular stores and seem like I belong. 4- Not having to worry If I'll be able to fit somehere- an amusement park ride, airplane seat, someones small car. 5- Not having a fear of judgement based on my weight. My weight is always in the back of my mind when doing things- going on a job interview, meeting new people, new classes with new professors. I always wonder if my weight is all they think of when they look at me- especially in the job world.
  16. I think that's a little bit of a condescending generalization towards younger folks. I'm 23- yes I'm young. Do I know what Im in for? Absolutley. I've researched this for years, learned the dos and donts. It's not fair to assume all young people lack the maturity to go through this. Yea there are some who are young and may not be ready for this change, but ive seen older folks messing it up too so i dont think age is the number one determining factor. I agree it is more about maturity and commitment then age. I do agree that more counseling isn't a bad thing but I think regardless of age most could benefit from it.
  17. I'm 23 and I'll be sleeved in October doing a 3 month pre op diet now
  18. You can definitly use it to sautee chicken. It's my understanding you can use it any place you would use oil, butter margarine etc. A little In a pan before sautéing veggies or meat. That's prob how ill be using it but If anyone had more suggestions please post! As far as smell and taste yea it does have a coconut flavor- not sweet though, if you've ever had shredded unsweetened coconut it tastes like that but- well oily obviously lol
  19. Another supporter for the cauliflower pizza! Ive made it several times and it's awesome! Another suggestion is to use portabello mushroom caps and make 'pizza' with them. Scoop out the ribbing, layer in some sauce ( you can add some ground turkey for extra Protein and make a meat sauce) top with low fat mozzarella cheese, and maybe some turkey pepperoni if you want even more protein. Bake and voila! I saw a recipie like this on YouTube and I've been meaning to try it!
  20. I really want to start using coconut oil in place of EVOO. My ex who was a fitness fanatic (irnoic isn't it? lol he is actually where I was introduced to things like protein shakes, coconut oil, high protein diet etc) anyway he used to eat it and put it on just about everything and I used to look at him all sorts of weird when he would use it in cooking- though I did try things made with it and it was good just odd for me. Now I no longer think it's such a weird idea and have been meaning to try it out for myself! I love coconut anyway. And I know there are TONS of used aside from cooking for coconut oil, skin, hair etc. I've been looking to see if you can make your own and watched a few videos on it but the process looks difficult so I'll just buy a jar.
  21. You can julienne it by hand which is what I did the first time i did it (basically just cut into really thin strips) but it's kind of a big pain in the butt. Or you can use a vegetable julienne peeler like this http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Julienne-Peeler/dp/B0000CCY1S/ref=sr_1_4?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1343432424&sr=1-4&keywords=vegetable+julienne I saw it on Eggface's blog and now that I know the recipie is sucessful I'm gonna get one!
  22. Aw that's disappointing! I'll still try them for the heck of it and if they aren't great I can always add extra sauce to cover them up lol but I do highly reccomend using zucchini as pasta noodles. I made a shrimp garlic and bean dish and served it over 'zucchini noodles' and I didn't miss the pasta. Obviously it's not anything like real pasta but still a good idea!
