I'm glad there are more of us- we're growing in numbers LOL. It will go fast! Waiting is the worst part (I'm NOT a patient person lol) but before we know it it will be here! October is my favorite month- always has been since I LOVE Halloween so this is going to be the best one yet! Yay!

Loose Sking Before Surgery
I feel your pain. I'm pre op and already have area's that 'sag' granted they still have lots of fat lol but they already sag so I know they will sag post op. I've yo you dieted for a few years and I'm sure it has effected it. It's mostly my arms i worry about. I'm sure I'll have some sag on my belly too, unfortunatly that's the nature of the beast. I would rather be smaller and healthy with some sag then this weight with no sag. And like Star said some insurance companies do pay for plastics. I do know Medicaid will pay for a pani removal if it is deemed medically needed. I'm not sure I would qualify for that but we'll see. Just take it one step at a time. I know it's daunting when you think of going through all this and still not having your body be what we want it to be, but like I said I would rather be healthy with skin then unhealthy like I am now with fat.

Just Got My Insurance Letter Back And...
Good luck! Its true, 4 months will fly by. I'm in the midst of a 3 month diet now- should be having surgery in October. I know it sucks to wait but it will pass! My mom has always said the time will pass either way- this way it will be working towards a goal! Best of luck!

Thanks... I Think? Nsv.... Maybe? Lol.
Well I would take it as a NSV but the guy was obviously a major tard. I've known a few people from Canada though and in their defense we've had many conversations about the size of things here compared to there- particularly fast food sizes so I guess that much is factual. But still he was a jerk. Well if he wants to see a fat person on his tour of US obesity send him my way and I'll happily sit on him...

Any Sleevers Close To Long Island, Ny?
Haha I really think we all should! There are enough of us in the area to have a get together at some point! I'm super excited! I'm really impatient though, so wish I could fast forward through all the pre op stuff. I have to do a 3 month diet and I finish all my pre op stuff in mid September and most likley will have a date in October. I can't wait!! Your surgery date is in a few weeks right? I bet your super excited!

Sleep Study Friday Ahh!
Hey all I'm back! Just got in this morning from the sleep study. It went well, not as bad as I thought,. I actually slept- I got only 3 hours sleep the night before so I was exhausted by the time last night rolled around. The tech told me that was the fastest he had seen anyone fall alseep lol. The room was nice, bed was comfy, had a big flat screen TV with cable. Not a bad set up. And my best friend was right next door and the tech was really cool about it and let us hang out up until it was lights out time at 11. The worst part was the wax they stick to your hair- you all were NOT joking about that! Just spent half an hour in the shower trying to get it out of my hair- gross! The wires weren't all that bad but maybe I was just so tired they didn't phase me that much lol. Thanks again all for talking me through it just gotta wait now and HOPEFULLY I don't have to go back for another! Bronxbubbles how did your second one go? Hoping all was well. Did they say you are going to need a CPAP machine now for surgery? The tech did tell me I was snoring a bit so I'm anxious to see what my results are too, after reading your experience I'm thinking there could be a chance I could have sleep apnea too. We'll see!

Sleep Study Friday Ahh!
Just replying now- its been a busy week! Thank you all for the replies- this has helped me SO much! It makes it less nerve wrecking to know what to expect. I am definitly bringing a hat after reading this lol. They called to confirm today and told me I was allowed to bring food/drinks with me and they even have fridges and microwaves in the room which is very cool! Not bringing a full meal or anything lol but will definitly be bringing some waters and a snack for before bed. Bronxbubbles thanks so much for sharing all the details with me of your study! And the pics! The room looks really nice! That was one of the things I was nervous for- It looks like a hotel room! Sorry to hear you have sleep apnea! I honestly don't think I have it BUT the more I've been reading about it and how people have been surprised to have it Its possible I do. We'll see- not like I WANT to have another one of these done lol. How long ago was your sleep study done? Wondering if I'll get results right away or now. Well I think I'm prepared for it more now! Fingers crossed its a smoothe night!

Sleep Study Friday Ahh!
I have my sleep study scheduled for Friday and I'm freaking out a little bit. Does it suck as much as I've heard it does? I plan to not sleep much Thursday night- but I double scheduled myself that day so my NUT appointment is that morning so I have to get some sleep...but hopefully I'll be tired from running around that morning. I'm dreading it though! My best friend who is going through this process with me- we're both planning to have surgery- she actually has to have one too so they agreed we can come in the same night so I guess it's nice to have someone to go with, but doesn't mean I'm dreading it any less lol. Any sleep study war stories to share?

Foley Cath
From what I've heard it really depends on the surgeon. It's so varied. That and drains- seems like its different for everyone. I'm still pre op and I'm hoping I don't have a cath, but I've had one years ago when I had knee surgey and it's not THAT bad.

Oct Sleevers
I finish my last pre op appointment in mid September and the nurse practicioner told me to expect to have surgery in October. Feels like an awfully long ways away now! Anyone else counting down the days like me? Lol

Nyc/metro Area Sleevers Support Group/meetup!
Hello all! I know there have been a few threads on NYers, and there is a NY group so I know there are a lot of us out there! I think it would be a fantastic idea to form a support group/meetup for us NYC area folks. I was looking to find a support group type meetup not affiliated with a specific doctor in the NYC area and couldn't, so I thought it would be nice if us sleevers could form something of our own! We could try to plan a meetup sometime and maybe every few months do something- so we could all get together, discuss our journey etc. Maybe a picnic type get together in a park and everyone could feel free to bring something Sleeve friendly to eat. Or we could find something non food specific to do- the point it to get us all together! All are welcome, pre op, post op- I'm pre op myself and won't be sleeved for a few months. Is there anyone interested in this idea?

Helllp.....
I've heard good things about the Syntrax nectar flavors- I've yet to try them (I'm pre op) but I'm gonna order a sample pack to see what I like but I hear they are good. I like sweet things (some people have said they are too sweet) but I think I'll like it. I've tried the optimum nutrition gold standard before and it wasn't so bad. Good luck! I've been researching protein like crazy too to find something good! They also told me to do Isopure but from what I've heard its gross so I don't think I'll be trying it- maybe the clear ones but not the shakes.

Had My Consult- I'm The Heaviest I've Ever Been!
Thanks for the tip! I'm gonna get up extra early that day, take a long walk and tire myself out. I too have problems sleeping in a bed that isn't mine but usually will pass out anywhere if I'm exhausted enough so I'll make sure I'm really tired. Thanks!!

Had My Consult- I'm The Heaviest I've Ever Been!
Thanks for the replies all! I definitly am looking at this optimisticly like okay now I can just start from here and NEVER be this weight again! It was tough to see I've gotten to this weight but I'm thankful that I'm here doing this and I'm just more confident in my decision then ever before. I am definitly starting to impliment post op habit. Even in the last week before my consult I've been starting. I've been drinking 80oz of Water a day (I refil a 20 ounce bottle 4 times a day) and have been sipping it all through the day. Been trying to eat higher Protein too and cut out carbs. Today they told me there is no pre op diet for the office BUT I've decided to do one anyway. I want to try to loose 20-30lbs pre op. The nurse practicioner told me it was a good idea, so I'm going to start replacing 1 meal a day with a Protein Drink (currently doing research to find a good tasting one lol) and then she said I could work up to 2 shakes a day and a sensible to meal for the third. So that is what I'll be doing! Ashley- I'm really anxious for the sleep study! I wasn't sure I needed it but since I told her I snore and sometimes have insomnia she thought it was a good idea. I've always been weird about my sleep habits so I'm like ehhhh anxious! Did you fall asleep easily there? I'm nervous that I'm not gonna be able to sleep lol argg

Had My Consult- I'm The Heaviest I've Ever Been!
Hi VSGers! First of all I've been here a little while but haven't properly introduced myself or told my story. I've been overweight my whole life, struggled with dieting. I've been over 300lbs since I was a teenager which was tough. I've looked into WLS on and off since I was a teenager but never went through with it- which I am glad for because the sleeve wasn't an option when I was looking into it and I'm sure this is the procedure for me! So I finally had my consult today- I got the appointment back in April but there was a long wait. Everything went great and things are moving along fast! I have a bunch of appointments scheduled already- Nutristionist this Friday (1 or 2 classes) Ultrasound the 25th, sleep Study (Since they thing I may have sleep apnea) next week also, and the Endoscopy July 18th. The psych and the medical consult will be sent to me, but I really feel like things are moving along FAST and I'm super thrilled! It also makes it so much easier because my best friend is going through this with me- we're going through the same facility and even have some of our appointments scheduled on the same days so we can go together! The downer of today was getting on the scale for my stats. I haven't actually weighed myself in over a year. Last year was a hard year for me, I went through a crazy break up, emotional ate and gained weight, then took it off then I injured my knee and was immobile for months. In that time I was super depressed and knew I gained weight, I just never knew how much. I thought I had taken some of it off by now, and maybe I have- who knows- I may have even been heavier- though I shutter to think! I weighed in today at 379. Never in my life have I been this big! My biggest was 350 and that was HUGE for me. I saw 379 and I almost cried today! I was probably close or at 400 at my heaviest- that is such a scary number for me! This just proved to me more then EVER that I really need this surgery. It was a HUGE (no pun intended lol) wake up call for me and more then ever made me realize this is the right thing! My BMI is 63- I was a little worried with it being that high but they assured me today the doctor has experience opperating on patients with BMI's over 60 so I felt better. I'm just really excited/anxious/nervous/happy/scared to start this whole process but am so happy it's finally moving along!

Weight Related Bucket Lists Anyone?
This is great! I need to make my own...lets see -Cross my legs like a normal woman -Be able to walk more then a block with out being winded -Subway steps. My enemy. Be able to climb them with out feeling like I'm going to dye -Ride a roller coaster comfortably. I have a fear of heighs and would probably hate them even if I was never fat, BUT I want to be able to do it- would be a huge NSV for me! -Buy clothes at Victoria's Secret, Express and Charlott Russe. I've always wanted to shop at these 3 stores. I especially want to be able to buy one of those PINK shirts/pants from VS. Silly but it's something I've never been able to do and I've watched all the thin girls be able to fit them and i want it! -No more wide shoes. The day I am able to go into a shoe store and buy a show in M width I will cry my eyes out -Date. At 23 I should be dating a lot more then I do. I've been big my whole life and never dated like a normal girl- I settled for a guy for a while who was awful for me and almost 2 years later I find myself still hung up on it because in a way I guess I've felt I couldn't do better. -Wear shorts. - Persue the jobs/opportunities I've been too afraid to go for over fear of being rejected because of my weight - BE NORMAL There it is, my very honest 'weight bucket list'

Check This Out
Awesome visualizer! Pretty sure they don't make a big enough shelf to contain all my extra fat LOL. It's also something like 4 sticks of butter for every pound of weight, so just imagine how many sticks of butter many of us have lost! Very motivating to look at it like that!

Anybody Else That Have Been Or Are Scheduled
Would love to know if there are more of us out there too As you know I'm pre op and have my first appointment next week. May want to post this in the NY section instead, more of a chance for NYers to see it

Heard Of The New Wls?
I think it's done as more of a second surgery to assist WLS patients who either have not reached goal, or who have gained back some from their wls. I wonder if any non wls folks have underwent this.
