Susan's Solemn Silliness
I have been thinking of this one. Here is my situation. I have a 9 year old daughter who is very sensitive. She does not like changes in routine etc and like most kids worries that I will die and leave her. I was a single mother for most of her life and we are very close. We moved in with my hubby 2 1/2 years ago - which was a very difficult time for her. I finally told her about the surgery. She seemed to take it okay especially when I told her that I would most likely be back at home by the time she got home from her after school program (I am having the surgery done in the hospital). I have to be at the hospital for 6:45 am and originally thought that she could sleep over at a friend's and they would take her to school in the morning, so that DH could take me and stay with me. But because she does not like changes in her routine, instead I told hubby to stay home, take her to school, go to work and come pick me up later in the afternoon. I would take a taxi to the hospital and be there alone. Truthfully, I am a little nervous to do this by myself, so I wanted to know if anyone else just went in (not necessarily to the hospital, but to the clinic) and then had someone pick them up. I didn't want to ask a friend either because it is so early. I am a grown woman after all, but still a little scared... Susan

Susan's Solemn Silliness
Andrew, I plan on borrowing your cards some day! I love that you said it was forward of her! I have someone at work who when I was losing 60 lbs last year kept asking me how much have I lost and how much more do I want to lose etc. It was really hard to be tactful, but I realize now that I should not have worried about tact since she was so tactless! I will be armed this time! Oh btw Andrew - I brag about YOUR weight loss to my hubby all the time!:heh: Susan

i have been crushed!!!!
I am so sorry for your hurt and disappointment. My insurance does not cover it either. Is there any way for you to self pay and pay it back over time? Susan

My Consult and date!!
Yippe Leslielee!!! That is exciting. I was also thrilled when I got my date. Dr. Coburn sounds like he gives good phone consult. Very reassuring. Welcome to the wait (weight) club! Susan

Susan's Solemn Silliness
Last night was Passover for my family and as with most holidays it was a feast. I felt a little awkward because the last time I had seen most of these people, I was 40 lbs lighter. I know most of us can relate to that! Anyways, I indulged of course...:hungry: many of these foods probably wont go down the band. No one said anything about my weight gain, but I am sure they were wondering.... These are people I will not disclose or discuss my band with. It kept running though my mind the next time I see them and the marked contrast in how much food I will consume. Then I started to think about when people notice me losing weight again....they are sure to ask what I am doing. My answer: PORTION CONTROL!:high5: Susan

Susan's Solemn Silliness
I am now one month away from being banded so I decided to start my own journal/blog to chronicle this adventure. Last night I had an interesting dream. I dreamed that the colleagues I used to go to WW@Work with, all went to a seminar for a weight loss diet that involved eating very small amounts but with whole wheat pita. I said that I was not going to go because I was being banded, but I found myself wanting to try it and then being indecisive about getting the band. A reflection of my (as Jack would say) 52nd thoughts. I yo yo from being so excited to terrified and can hardly wait to wishing it was 2 months away! (Although I have gained 5 lbs since I had my consult - eating all this junk to give in to the cravings). I am so glad I found the board with all of you. You are all so supportive of each other and seem to genuinely care that we all do well. I know I am making the right decision and reading the posts make me feel that there will not be any surprises. I have confidence in Dr. Yau and the team. I think they too have my best interests at heart and will look after me. Then...it will be up to me to make this work. I can. I will. Susan

Pre-Op Diet

Yikes!
Thank you all. I am still nervous but you have all reinforced that I am doing the right thing. I do want my health back and I will succeed. Thank you! Susan

Yikes!
I am just about 1 month away from my surgery and sometimes I think I am out of my mind for doing this! I am anxious about so many things not the least of which is failure. Did any of you have these second thoughts and doubts? Susan:omg:

First Fill Done
Hey Andrew! Glad it went well. The last thing I am afraid of are the fills, because I am diabetic and take 3-4 needles a day! More afraid of cottage cheese and yoghurt diet! Susan

Food Addiction
Oh Doddie - you are so right. The Ontario Ministry of Health has no clue what they are doing! Recently at SickKids Hospital in Toronto the Paediatrician in Chief who also happens to be an endocrinologist has announced the opening of a centre for obesity. It will encompass many disciplines including nutition, social work, exercise science and even bariatric surgery! Remember this is for children - now that is progressive. We have all seen or heard of morbidly obese children and it is truly sad. I am glad that they are including this option as well. I am sure that it would be the last resort, but there are children who need - no deserve this last resort. Susan

Magic Bullet
Actually it was not in a store. I work for a large Hospital foundation in Toronto. We have a "Main Street" along one of the corridors where 3-4 vendors rotate. Today there was a guy selling these types of products (As seen on tv) and it did seem that the price was good but I wasn't sure because I did not remember the infomercial. Also I don't have a blender, just a robot coupe and that is way too much trouble to clean! Susan

Food Addiction
Yes Doddie - my commitment to this is complete. Not only do I want the band to take off this weight and keep it off, but I will also work on my food adddiction so that I am not ever in this position again!

Food Addiction
Lessons learned Doddie. I am becoming increasing more aware of what triggers me to eat. Last night I had a frustrating incident with my daughter and all I could think about after was eating a big bowl of ice cream! I was bugged that there was none in the house and sent my husband out to get some!!! It really felt like I could not control/deal with my anger/frustration with her without the ice cream. Sick, sick sick! Susan
