Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

What is involved. I will be having lap done at TLBC in May (I think - date not confirmed).

I read about Optifast here in the forum. Is that all you have? All day? For how long?

Thankfully, TLBC doesn't resort to the use of Optifast for their pre-op diet.

They'll go over it for you...the length of it and some details differ depending on the individual (ie. how much to lose etc).

It generally will consist of a yogurt and cottage cheese diet for 1 to 2 weeks (depending).

I did the Optifast program a few years ago....and so TRUST ME....doing the yogurt/cottage cheese thing is MUCH better!!! AND, for me, I despise cottage cheese (can't even look at it!) so it was just yogurt for me!!!

You'll do fine; it is the toughest part, but if I can do it, anyone can! All I kept telling myself is that I HAD to do it for my own safety...to help make the liver smaller and more manageable so that the surgical procedure would be easier, go well and assist in the recovery. That was the only motivation I needed to stick to it....(plus I lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks!).

I was told just yougurt (no fruit bottoms in it) and cottage cheese...but you will find out for sure at your consult.

Also...I didn't mention this because this is the part that varies for each person: for the first of the two week pre-op diet, I was allowed to have chicken (nothing on it...just plain chicken...) and any green veg. To be honest, I think I only had chicken 3 times (I would fry up chicken strips...no oil or anything) that first week and I had no veg....I still stuck mainly to the yougurt that week as well.

Some need to do it for 3 weeks; others for 1 week. You'll get the details.

Hi Susan,

I am being banded at the TLBC in three days - and have been on the yogurt and cottage cheese diet for almost two weeks.

Its not very exciting, but remarkably doable. I am not hungry. And I've lost 15 pounds. A nice start.

I received the pre-op diet sheet with the other materials when I paid my deposit. It was further discussed at the pre-op seminar.

I had my consult and now my next step is to book my surgery date. I haveto do the pre-op diet for two weeks, like some of you I HATE cottage cheese. What yogurt should I stick to? I know I shouldn't have any with the fruit bottoms and it should be sugar/fat free. Is there any one type thats better then the others (not a big yogurt person).

Jurema: it's all a personal taste issue. Go to the grocery store and buy a few different brands (ie. the single serving ones) and try them...find one you like (brand wise) and then get some different flavours in that brand.

You'll do fine.....like you, I can't stand cottage cheese....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
