Oh, I always through them out, bummer. I probably read it though. That was before I was tuned into all of the Dr.'s.

I had a rolling carry on. I had no problem walking with it and whenever it needed to be lifted, I asked for help.

I have never had a C-section, but I only had pain the first night. I didn't need pain meds after that. Maybe driving on bumpy roads, I held my tummy for a couple of days, but that was the extent of the discomfort.

I've heard that the best cardio "is the one you do". It sounds like you have a GREAT handle on your exercise!! I think that as long as you are getting your heart rate up and changing it up every so often there is nothing else you should do. Maybe add in some classes for some variety.
    Great job!

thinmymind reacted to PdxMan in Honesty Vs. Lying About The Surgery
I told a couple of acquaintances and received negativity back, so I decided to not tell anybody about it (except my wife). About a week before my surgery, I told my family, "Next Friday, I am ..." I let them know what was happening, but not that I was soliciting opinions.
Post-op, when going out to lunch/dinner, I would order Soups. I would volunteer no information why, but if asked, I would say that I had a late Breakfast ... I have a lot of work I need to concentrate on and don't want to be sleepy ... I have a special dinner with my wife and don't want to spoil it ... I'm just not that hungry today ... I'm trying to cut portion sizes down ...
All of it basically true ... no lies.
After each time using one of those, there would always be someone else who would chime in, "Oh, you are so right, I should probably have something light, too."
When my weight loss started to be noticable, people asked what my secret was. I told them I had been cutting down my portion sizes and exercising more. Again, a true statement ... no lies
I have just recently started to tell people I don't know, if the topic of weight loss comes up, that I had the surgery. For the most part, it has been very positive. I think it is difficult if they wanted to be critical when they see me as a slender person not knowing what I looked like before.
After I get a year out, I will probably take the next step and tell everybody else. I will expain that earlier on, I wasn't in a place where I felt comfortable disclosing such a personal decision. If that doesn't work for them, well, then, that tells me a lot about my relationship with that person.
This is a personal decision and there is no obligation to tell ANYONE what is going on. Share what and with who you feel comfortable with.

My surgery was also performed by Dr. Kelly on May 14, 2012. I am now 16 days post-op, down nearly 25 lbs (this includes 11 lbs lost on the pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks due to my BMI being over 49).
A truly fantastic experience. I was picked up by Dr. Kelly's wife in San Diego, driven across the border to Tijuana (a 30 min drive). Taken directly to the hospital where all the pre-op tests were completed (x-ray, ECG, urine test, blood work), consults with the Anaesthetist, Cardiologist, Internal Medicine Specialist, and of course, Dr. Kelly himself. I have an anaphylactic allergy to Latex, so they were careful to make sure EVERYTHING (including the complete O.R.) was latex-free. I also have bad asthma, so they gave me an aerosolized asthma treatment both pre and post-op.
Arrived at the hospital on Monday at 11 am, was in the O.R. by 2 pm! And back in my room by 3 pm! Surgery was 48 minutes and would have been even shorter, but I had some abdominal adhesions due to a previously ruptured gall bladder. Spent that night and the next day in hospital and was discharged on Wed. morning!
A final leak test (done at another hospital where Dr. Kelly prefers the higher resolution of their imaging equipment), and then off to the hotel for 2 days!
I didn't even need pains meds after the 2nd day. I had minimal gas discomfort, showered on my own the day after surgery (and every day after that).
It has been a VERY easy road for me physically. Mentally I'm still learning about head-hunger, learning that I really can eat "just that little bit" and be full, etc.
I could not have asked for a greater surgeon (his skill, his bedside manner, his wonderful family - who is very involved in his medical practice!). Omar, his coordinator is great. He's very caring, detail oriented and quick to respond to questions, concerns, etc.
    I highly recommend Dr. Kelly!

I was nervous about what my best friend would say, so I didn't tell her until I got home. She was stunned silent, but later that evening, this is the text I got:
"If u need anything let me know. I think you are very brave for what you did. I really admire that. If you need any help along with this process let me know what I can do. Maybe it was good I didn't know bc the mother side of me would have come out and I would have been a nervous nelly.."

You can ask Cathy or me anything about Dr. Kelly. We both had a great experience and at the risk of speaking for her, we would both love to be back there with Dr. Kelly and Omar (his assistant)!
I felt very comfortable with Dr. Kelly, he is not only a very skilled surgeon, but also a very kind man. He welcomes you and makes you feel like part of his family.

thinmymind got a reaction from LilMissDiva Irene in What Will Happen If I Don't Follow The 2 Week Preopp Diet?
The only thing I have to add is that sticking to the post op diet is sooooo much easier. Easier for me for two reasons.
    1. I am simply not hungry. In fact, yesterday, I forgot to eat. Not that I recommend that. Yes, I still think about yummy things, but I kinda don't really care. A BBQ scent smells good to me in the same way a rose does. It smells nice, but I don't want to eat it.
    2. I am not even 2 weeks post op yet, but eating things now could really cause me damage, not just postpone surgery. That is a real scare for me, and so I follow my surgeon's plan for introducing foods.
Best of luck with the rest of your pre op and hopefully your surgery will goes as smoothly and uneventfully as mine.

I would prefer not to have to close this thread. It is a very good question and one I do believe many pre-op Sleevers may need to know about.

Cathy and I had our surgery the same day, so it may look like we are making things up! The building houses basically two hospitals. The doors and everything say Oasis which is the upper floors, known mostly for cancer treatment. The first floor houses the Florence Hospital where the bariatric surgeries are performed.
