Bethany reacted to MICHELLE LEE in Dumping Syndrom
Well I must be in that 5% of sleevers that dump . Because my body cannot tolerate sugar at all. I am positive it is dumping, due to the symptoms. Sweats, dizzyness, diarrhea, nausea and horrid cramping. So beware....dumping can occur. Just depends on the individual person.

Bethany got a reaction from gmanbat in Runny Nose When Full
It probably is linked to the "slimes". It's like your esophogus creates thicker slimey mucus which helps get the food down if you eat too fast or too much... It makes me feel like I need t hack it up but I could see how it could make you feel like you need to sneeze, or could cause runny nose.

I am just checking to see if this is normal... I had my surgery on 8/28 so I'm two weeks post op and it seems like my main incision is more sore now and when I move certain ways it feels like tugging or something and gets sore. I lifted my son once a few days ago and think it may be related but I worry if it's inside or just normal healing....
On a side note I am totally not getting enough Protein. I tried another brand (muscle milk) and broke out in hives the next morning... So apparently am allergic. I forced myself to have some of my Unjury today but it was not easy to not throw up. Ugh!

I didn't realize this was an old post! I should pay more attention. LOL.
The Protein first is what really helps me stay within my eating limits. And I was shocked at how much weight lifting can help tighten some loose skin areas (specifically my batwings). I found I had improvement within 3 weeks just lifting weights a few times a week.

Yes, that pain is normal. However, it is extremely important to be cognisant of what you are doing and how much you are lifting. While you are healing, you can inujure yourself if you do not follow doctors orders and only lift what you should. Take it easy
As for the protein, you need to go buy samples of several different products and find one that works for you. Personally, I cannot stomach the Isopure.< em> I tried many flavors. I found I liked the Atkins premade, but I also discovered Premiere Protein Shakes. they are at sam's club and have 30 g of protein per shake.< /p>
I bought powdered protein from GNC and it makes me instantly run to the bathroom. It was almost $20 a bag, so that's why I encourage you to buy single servings before committing to a kind/brand!
Good luck, protein is vital to your success so I hope you find something that works!

I would do this again in a heart beat! The idea of surgery really scared me, but the whole procedure and recovery was really very easy. The hardest part for me was adjusting to eating/drinking the first month. Every day and each week was a little easier. I am only two months out, and the transformation has been dramatic! I have lost 38 lbs since surgery, plus 15 lbs during the pre-op diet. I have NEVER been able to lose that much on my own, let alone keep it off! I still have a ways to go, but I know that I will finally be able to reach my goal weight over time. I have a ton of energy and I am not hungry! It has been wonderful. It took me two years to make up my mind to finally do this. My only regret is that I did not do it two years ago!
I wish you luck in your research and your decision. This forum is a great place to come if you are looking for information, inspiration and support!

I drink the alpine punch of Isopure and it's 40 grams a bottle. Tastes like koolaid. I haven't tried any other favors yet but there are some coupons for GNC so you might try that too. It's like 6 per bottle.
I was sleeved on the 28th also and I still feel a lit of tugging on that left incision. Especially when I am very full or when I have picked up something I shouldn't have. It does get better though. Hope that helps.

I was sleeved August 28! Ive lost 10 pounds. Just started puréed today. I get full so fast. I actually tried baby food. The ham and ham gravy has a good amount of Protein, but I had to add some salt and pepper. I can't get a large egg down. I can have two small slices of banana after I've eaten my ounce and a half of protein. Really trying to get my Water in... I just need to learn to have water on me at all times and just sip away. Takes me a half hour to sip 8 ounces of water.
One thing I've noticed it that I don't have much of a desire to eat! I have to remind myself. Need to get on a schedule too. Going to be hard with work. But I can do it!!! Looking forward to being healthy :)

You may only need two (maybe three) weeks off from work. Depending on what you do at your nurse job, if there is lifting, etc.
I am a stay at home mom and it's been about 11 days since my surgery and this is my first day without helpers with me. I can't lift my son and really have to rest alot.
I wouldn't be concerned with your bosses negatively. I had family members that weren't supportive until they saw I was going to d it with or without their support. I only know one person that had a bad outcome and it was her own fault. She lost all the weight and then decided to eat the way she used to and re-stretched her stomach out so she is back to her old size. From what it seems, this is actually not very common. It'll stretch out a little over time, which is understandable but it takes you really not caring anymore to go backwards that much.

    SoCal,
Your doctor should have you on a strict plan. I know for me the full week after surgery is strictly sugar free, caffeine free, clear liquid diet... No Protein yet. So I mostly just have Popsicles and Water. Take your Multivitamins throughout the day since that is all the nutrition you can get at this point.
Week 2 I start protein. I know I can't try eating like normally until post op week 9. Hope that helps.

You need to talk to your doctors office. My surgeon doesn't allow anything (even protein) for the first week post op. just clear sugar free caffeine free liquids. I had a very hard time getting in my liquids the first few days and then I started making myself eat Popsicles all throughout the day, that reallllllly helped!
As for how much you lose and how fast it really depends on your body and how much you have to lose. If someone has 200 lbs to lose they will lose a lot faster then someone like me who has about 60 lbs to lose. I wouldn't worry. Just don't push yourself past the different "phases" too fast. (1. clear liquid, 2. Adding in Protein, 3. Adding in some puréed food, 4. Adding in some soft foods, 5. Carefully eating normal.) these each take a certain number of days or weeks depending on your doctor!! Mine does 1. One week, 2. Three weeks, 3. Two weeks, 4. Three weeks. And then if I calculated that all right I get to eat normally NINE weeks post op.
Every doctor is different though, some more cautious then others.

My second phase was soft/mushy foods, hopefully yours is the same. I've stocked up on a bunch of things - FF refried Beans, Hormel 98% FF turkey chili, corned beef hash, thin deli sliced low sodium chicken, ultra thin Sargento cheese slices (so I can do little meat/cheese rolls), reduced fat Wheat Thins with Mexi dip (awesome recipe combining 16 oz. of plain greek yogurt with Hidden Valley Ranch and Hidden Valley Fiesta Ranch powders), creamy Peanut Butter, tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad ... just a few things off the top of my head.

Today I actually ate food for bfast, lunch and dinner. It's the most I have had so far and the 1st time I have had meat. I'm almost 4 weeks out. For bfast I ate prob 2 1/2 Tbsp of egg beaters with a little bit of chicken broth to keep moist and a little bit of ketchup. Lunch was veggie bushes baked Beans prob 2-3 Tbsp with 1 tsp of light sour cream, all quick blended till smooth and 3 Tbsp of applesauce. Dinner I did a pot roast in the crock pot and I quick blended half a piece, small, with some of the cooking sauce, it was like shredded small. And I tell ya everything was good and went down with no problem, I think I'm on my way....now if I can get all my Vitamins in everyday...

I took my one month pictures this morning since I won't have time to do them before church tomorrow. I measured and cannot believe the inches I have lost in one month. I have to have some time to calculate the total but it was several! It amazes me! So thankful that I had this surgery. I am wearing pants today that would not zip or button before surgery. Now I can hold them out from my waist. Whoo-Hoo!
Best of luck to all the August sleevers Hang in there and know that everyday gets easier. I can't wait to see how we all look at Christmas!!

    Hey sleevers,
    (some TMI)
My surgery was the 28th (Tuesday) and I have been so miserable. All I want to do is sleep... I force myself up to walk around the room every hour or two and take deep breaths, half the time using the spirometer.
seems like everything makes me throw up even though I am on zofran,
I started using the subpositories and it works better... Just had a Popsicle, it was so nice to have a non-nasty taste in my mouth for once and know I'm getting some liquids at the same time.
I do have problems with taking all of my meds and Vitamins without throwing them back up.. I still have "foam" in my mouth and when I throw up, it's just more foam.
Anyway, I just wanted to see if it is a normal thing for us to feel so miserable the first few days or weeks? Thank you!
Ps: if this didn't all make sense i blame the drugs!
Bethany: I had the same experience. Everything made me nauseous, even gas x strips. They finally gave me Ativan ( sublingual ) and Toradol for pain which is non narcotic. Narcotic pain meds can make you more nauseous. That combo made all the difference for me and I immediately began to feel better. I was throwing that frothy crap, all meds, and anything else I swallowed. The Ativan did the trick.
I hope they find something that works for you soon!

Don't worry. I was the same way. . . only I was taking phenagren and zofran and even turning on the TV made me throw up. The spirometer. . . forget about it! I could not speak, move or think, much less drink without vomiting. . . well actually, dry heaving, because I was beyond empty. My doctor told me that 2-5% of people react that way and that it is mostly due to the anesthesia. I spent 2 nights in the hospital (my surgery was on a Tuesday too) and finally went home late Thursday afternoon. Even then, it took me a couple more days for the nausea to subside. Subside, however, it did. Yours will too. Hang in there.

I cannot believe that it's been 23 days since I had my surgery! I honestly do not know where the time has gone. I am down 26.5 lbs since starting the pre op diet. I am in the midst of the 3 week stall, but know that after nearly 6 weeks of being at 500-800 calories/day, my body has some serious readjusting to do. I've been back at the gym for 2 weeks and every day feel a little stronger. I'm looking forward to going back to kettlebell classes next month. I know that is going to be a huge help in dropping weight and reshaping the body.
So many of us starting this journey together! We are amazing!!

My surgery is Tuesday morning and I keep telling my husband how to care for our son if I die, how much I love him and I'm sorry if I die... It was freaking him out a bit. I don't think it's likely to happen, but need to be prepared for the worst.
My doctor said that the people he has lost during surgery were people that knew it was likely.... Very high risks factors, etc.
