What a long, emotional journey it has been to get to this point. I can't believe that my surgery has finally been scheduled. It all started for me in January...well this part of my journey anyway. My husband and I went on a quick weekend trip and when I almost could not fasten my seatbelt on the plane, that was my breaking point. I made an appointment for the initial consultation expecting to request (and be granted) the lap band. I half expected the Dr. and everyone else to ask me what I was doing there...surely I didn't belong did I? Not only did I belong, but I was told that gastric bypass was the best option for me. I was an emotional wreck when I left the office that day. With lots of help from my therapist, primary care physician and the weight loss center I am attending, I am now so glad to be having this surgery.
I have been overweight and/or obese my entire adult life. But for the first time, I have gotten so heavy that it is affecting my life every single day....and I've had it!!! I have always hovered around 230 lbs. I've lost and gained, and lost and gained and lost and gained again the same 30 to 60 pounds countless times. When I did my initial paperwork, part of the requirement was to list all of the diets I have been on and the weight loss associated with it. I have gained and lost close to 700 lbs in my life!!! Almost two years ago, I was the best health of my adult life. I was walking up to ten miles a day, strength training 3 times a week. I got down to 170. I started having this weird ache in the top of my right foot. It continued to get worse and began to effect my walking. I went to my orthopeidic Dr. expecting to hear I had a strain or at the very worst a fracture. Instead I was told there was a tumor in my third metatarsil. I had surgery two weeks later. Luckily it was not cancer. However, a large part of the bone had to be removed as the tumor had "eaten" through it. I couldn't drive for six weeks. I couldn't walk for 3 months and had lots of painful physical therapy. I have a lot of nerve damage and am in constant pain. I have had all sorts of painful treatments to try to alleviate the pain with no success. Meanwhile, I have gained 116 pounds in less than two years. I quit smoking the day I had the foot surgery. I think a combination of quiting smoking, depression and this new complete sedentary lifestyle are the culprits. But now, I had developed sleep apnea, severe osteoarthritis, shortness of breath and GERD. I have way too many travels and fun things to look forward to - I am going to get my life back!!! I am so glad that I have educated myself on WLS. I now know that this is truly my chance at long term weight loss.
I am so excited and so blessed that I get this second chance!!!
I would love to hear your story and get an online WLS buddy!!

    Barbiedoll,
I am so thrilled to hear this! All God asks is to confess our sins and accept and believe in his son, Jesus to save us. The Bible says that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us.
Believe honey! All will be fine. I won't be on for a day or two as my surgery is tomorrow. I'll be back on when I can.

I just had the surgery a couple of months ago and went through the same thing at about 3 weeks and I totally panicked. . I was told it is completely normal. And then one day my body decided to catch up. Currently down almost sixty lbs total. Hang tight- it gets better.

Good Luck and I'll pray for you. My surgery is May 1st. I'm in the last minute " panic mode" as well. I thought about having just one french fry tonight and then thought, " it's just not worth it" so I sucked down my Protein Shake and thank God that this is going to work!

    Hi Jen!
I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but there is a company called Care Credit. They are there to help with medical costs by paying the amount you need and they will finance your co-pay interest free for 12 months. You might look them up on the web. They will give you and instant reply. Hope that helps honey.

    I'm pretty nervous about everything.
I have told my dad, and he is supporting me 100%
i told 2 of my coworkers. 1 who is thin and told me, "if i were in your position, i would do it. it's your life, live it to the fullest, and if you think this will help you, go for it!" i love her
1 who is extremely overweight like me and said, "but Gabrielle, you're not that big... can't you just exercise?"
I feel like no one really understands the position i am in. the hubby is thin, my family - thin, the majority of my friends - thin. the majority of my coworkers are overweight but say that WLS is a cop out.
I'm scared. Surgery really scares me. It all seems so final.
but i keep thinking, I'll never be fat again. I'll be active. when i have kids, i'll be able to run and jump, swim and play soccer with them. I would love to be able to run a marathon. to get that "runner's high" to do yoga.
Kids is a big one. i want to set a good example for them when they come. i want them to have a mom that take care of herself.
My grandmother passed away recently. She always told me that i was fine the way i was. She was always the one who when i would diet, would cut me fruit and veggies and try to help me succeed. I'm sure she would be all for my surgery.
I could really use a buddy who is beginning the process. or someone to help answer my questions.
I'm going through the process with Kaiser here in north california.
My dad would like me to ask about experiences with Kaiser Surgeons.
    Thanks for listening guys
