I hope my body is not rationing the fats... God, its so hard to strike a balance in life.

gwynne reacted to geno5150 in Worried about long term effects :( ghrelin hormones
No one really knows for sure as ghrelin itself hasn't been studied a whole lot over a long period of time. They have been removing entire stomachs for years in cases of cancer and severe ulcers with the patients living long and fruitful lives, so I'm not all that concerned. The long term effects of being a fatso aren't that great, so how much worse can it be?

I track food, normally at 800 cals, i up my cal, drop my cals, excercised more, less, i tired everything...

What should i do now? Is this all i can lose?
To eat or not to eat?

My weight loss really slowed down in September, but picked up this month. I dropped five pounds in the past week! For those of you slowing down or on a plateau, it does pick up. I found that getting in my walks and doing some bike riding (and not really that intense) really helped get the pounds moving again. I'm feeling great and enjoying life so much more. To all the newbies and pre-op folks: it's not all Love and Light all the time, but, for me, it's been worth the journey. Much success and happiness to you!

Well it's been 4 days since I have smoked... Just cold turkey. I haven't cheated or anything. The only issue I had were the chemical withdrawals. Dizzy, anxious, nauseous and a little moody. Driving to and from work kinda sucks but it is slowly getting better. I didn't think it would be this easy but since the doctor is giving me no choice that is motivation enough...

gwynne reacted to O.T.R. sleever in Carbonated Beverages Stretch The Sleeve?
My rational tells me no, sodas won't stretch your sleeve.
Sodas are considered by many surgeons to be ok if they are allowed to go flat first. This tells me that all the acids & poisons in the soda isn't a major concern. So the problem is the carbonation itself. Carbonation is nothing but carbon dioxide. Since your body produces carbon dioxide and there is carbon dioxide in you're blood at all times I don't see how it can cause a reaction in your stomach tissue that wouldn't already be happening anyhow.
All that being said, why would you want to put those poisons into your body?

Instead of being a chicken, why don't you call the office and reschedule and just go and ask the surgeon questions that you are afraid of. Give it a chance and don't let your anxiety get you down.

...you feel like a lion or tiger on the hunt or something because all you do is eat meat/protein.
...the scale you previously never owned, is now something you do morning, noon, and night. If it goes up, you have to restrain yourself from tossing it through the window.
...when you're in a nasty stall, you accuse your surgeon of being inept, and removing the wrong organ.

Sure... I am 5'9" I currently weight 166... My goal was at the top of my normal range at 170. I started this journey at 315lbs, so I've lost almost 150lbs in less than 1 year.

When I started this journey, I set in my mind that I would consider the sleeve a success if I got under, and maintained under 200# within the first year of surgery. Well, I am just over 8 months out, and am now seeing "1" as the first number on the scale. I have not been under 200# since the late 1980s!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, it is hard to believe I am finally here. I never got under 200# when I was banded - and I had that band for 10 years!!! The sleeve really does work.
I attached a photo from 2 days ago - and one from a month or two preop. When I showed my son the before photo, he was shocked, he didn't remember me being so big. It shocks me too, so I get it.

I'm eating between 800 and 1100 calories a day on average, depending on my workout. 3 days a week I am walking/jogging 3.5 to 4.5+ miles per training session (one session per day) I am currently training with the Couch to 5K (C25K) and am incorporating that in the days I do my walking/jogging session. This is on Monday/Wednesday/Friday of the week. On Tuesday/Thursday/Saturdays, I am working out in the gym, doing 35-45 minutes of cardio, and 45-60 minutes of weight training, working on shoulders/arms on Tuesdays, chest/back on Thursdays and legs/abs on Saturdays.
Also, I lost 25 pounds prior to surgery (took me about a month) and the remaining 75 is post op.
    Hope that helps...

    Hi All!
I came across this cute lil chocolate shop in Singapore though, that is making cakes, chocolates and icecream with Wheylow sugar.
I bought some to try, and as advertised, they are right, it taste exactly like sugar, there is no strange artificial sweetener after taste!
This is the link for your referencing.

Disclaimer: I've not done much research on this yet, if you have any feed backs that this is bad for me, please alert me IMMEDIATELY.
I'm just excited to share this with everyone!
PS: I do not own this company by the way.
    Cheers,

We all have it, it's called Monday morning quarterbacking - that is "What if I'd just . . ." I had along argument with myself about it post-op.
Look if you and I COULD of done it then WHY DIDN'T WE? Why didn't we just muster up the willpower to say NO to all that food? Because we lack the willpower that's why, that and everything that conspires against us.
We all gripe about the high cost of food, yet food prices (adjusted for inflation) are lower now then EVER before in history (sans resent and upcoming price hikes due to the massive drought). Farming is cheaper, infrastructure to ship and serve food is phenomenal and our appetites just grew because of it. Portions are out of control and we just got fatter and fatter because of it.
YES, WLS is a drastic step but it's a step that a majority of us need to take in order to be healthier and happier in our lives.
Chances are in a few months, a few years you'll look back at this and think it was one if not THE best thing you ever did for yourself.

gwynne got a reaction from O.T.R. sleever in Thinking Of Surgery
The excess skin is just superficial, and that is if you have any. You're young, and it should not be a big issue.
Important thing here is you become healthier.
I was 25 when i had an angioplasty, and was diagnose with high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholestrol..
It was until recently when I went back for a follow up and learnt that my blood sugar is not under control and had to double the dosage of the pills i was taking that I decided something needs to be done quickly.
We're too young to be on pills this early.
So far, I'm 10 weeks out, lost about 50 lbs and im off my diabetic pills.
I'm still mornitoring and hoping the next follow up i can be off my cholestrol pills etc.
I feel so much lighter post surgery, and not having to pop so many pills, so many times a day is just a great feeling.
I went into this surgery only in hopes to put my diabetes into remission. In 1 week, i got what i wanted, weight wasn't the first thing on my mind, but it comes as a package and a wonderful bonus aint it?
I'm not suggesting you ShOULD do the surgery. I think you should do your reseach and be prepared for this major change.
I've not had any problems coping so far . Having to plan what to eat during outings with friends and family is the last thing on my mind. I've not ordered a meal for myself since surgery. I always share with my friends since i can hardly finish half of whatever I ordered. And that saves me quite a lot of money plus unknowingly, thinking of what to eat has been the last thing on my mind lately. food doesn't rule my life anymore!
I don't have any thing bad to say about having this surgery, other than the dizzy spells occassionally and the hardest thing now is getting my fluids in.
I'm sure a lot of people here will be glad to share their journey and thoughts with you.
    Good luck to you!

I started at a BMI of 32? that is about 9 weeks ago. I'm 5'7"
Today, my BMI is at 24.6. I've lost about 50lbs since surgery.
It's fantastic, except that I'm still struggling with the energy level and dizziness, which I suspect is due to hypertension medications that I am still on.
Anyhow, its totally worth it, not for the weight loss, but a healthier me, because of the VSG, and how lil i eat now, im making smart choices for food. More Protein, Water etc.
I snack, but healthy stuff like baked almonds, tuna chunks in brine/water... fruits..etc
I'm very please post surgery, and the only time i felt bad, was when I went for an expensive buffet (mother's birthday) and could hardly get anything in.. waste of money~~
otherwise, I say go for it.. totally worth every penny!
