2bsmallagain, we were also going to drive (from KC) & I anticipated fuel would be less than $300 (3,400 miles round trip @ $3.75/gal, 45 mpg). BUT last night, on a whim, I found flights for $200 each including insurance. My mom is going with me, so for $400, we shaved several days off our trip & paid about the same or less by the time you factor in hotels. I just knew it was too good to be true!

Well crap....decided to fly because it was the same price as driving. Money is a big issue, I've maxed myself out to get this surgery! It's looking like I might have to stay in San Diego the previous night instead of Tijuana...I don't know yet, but am guessing that they won't discount me the money for not staying in Tijuana the night before. This sucks

Uh oh.... I didn't know that & booked my flight last night & am departing San Diego at 6:15am!!! Yikes, I wasn't thinking about customs, etc. I hope this won't be a huge problem. Aren't the borders open 24/7?

I don't think I've seen anything bad about him on here, but I did read a few negative things about him on obesity help, so I chose to spend $500 extra & go with Dr. Garcia....truthfully though I think most surgeons have a problem here or there (whether it's their fault or not) but you just don't necessarily hear about it. I'd get really worried if I heard repeated accounts of bad things though.

I've been thinking about that. Wasn't sure about buying them in advance since everyone says that your taste changes though after surgery.... And I believe I can get those at GNC right, so not too hard to find?

I'm driving (along with my mom) about 27 hours away to have my surgery. I'll be in the hospital for 2 nights after then a hotel nearby for another 2 nights. I am wondering about what I'm going to be drinking on the way home. I won't have huge access to a microwave or hot water.... We'll be on the road for 2-3 days, depending on how I'm feeling. Any advice for super easy travel stuff, yet still getting in my protein?

Where did you get the free samples from shortypants? I'm the plan ahead type and really, really want to stock up on stuff, but I'm refraining due to everyone's advice.

I was told I had to do the finally three days of the diet (bmi 34.5) but I've decided that i'm doing the whole two weeks. I've been eating like a pig and I somewhat feel like starting the diet (may 1!) will be a relief of sorts. Of course, I may change my mind once i'm on it lol

Oh, and another thing that made me inquire is that someone on another thread (gastric sleeve) said they they lost 11 lb pre-op then gained 3 after so the surgery wasn't a success for them. I don't want this to happen to me! How does that happen?!?

Thanks for the advice! It just surprised me when I found that out, with the diet required both before & after I don't see how it was possible for her not to lose more. I didn't know if the surgery failed, or if that was a real possibility...

I recently heard a story about an old friend of the family whom supposedly had WLS (don't know the kind) and she only lost 20 lb right after then gained it back... Just wondering how often something like that happens? I am pretty much set on getting SKINNY after I am sleeved with Dr. Garcia May 15 (yay!) and feel like this is my last hope. I would be absolutely devastated if it didn't work.

Fatgirl (lol), I can't answer your question, but I am an RCA at the USPS and I've been asked to go back to work to sub about 10 days after my surgery... Not sure how I feel about that. They did tell me that they would help me load my car, but I just don't know if I'll be up to it or not. It's an 8.2 hour route & 125 miles of bumpy gravel. I have a high threshold for pain, and i'm definitely not a baby so hopefully I'll be fine. I read of another main carrier who is taking off 6-8 weeks!!!

Yes, from what I understand, it's one during surgery then two more before you leave Mexico (within the next 4 days).
