Hey everyone!! I'm a Mississippi girl too!! I live in Iuka. I have BCBs ins that has the bariatric exclusion so I'm having to pay out of pocket. I considered Mexico but decided I want someone closer if I had complications. I have my initial consult with Dr Pinson this coming Wed. Excited and nervous.

Mine went well, I guess. She talked about the surgery some, and my weight, some. Mostly she talked about the stress in my life. A whole hour about bills, traffic, relationships and obligations and my siblings. Not too impressed. Gotta go back next week and fill out a 250 questionnaire to see if I am angry or depressed...(What??) I was thinking before I left the office, "And I missed General Hospital for this?"....

I'm newly sleeved and I've seen so many if those posts that I know when I reach a stall not to panic...it happens. But I also no longer own a scale I plan on using only measuring tape to track progress. However in their defense they are just looking for support and this is the place to get it. I remember wondering, during my lurking phase, why do ppl ask the same question daily about stalls but I just shrugged it off and made a mental note about what to expect and noted that I shouldn't have a melt down if my progress doesn't go as I fantasized that it would...

That logic is not actually far from reality. Fat breaks down - that which is not metabolised or the waste products from it, has to go somewhere.
    Guess where?!
Maybe those faces and palms were a bit too premature after all?

As you are healing the bloody color will disappear and it will get light yellow like that. It's serous drainage and your body produces it when it's had an insult such as surgery. Call the doc if you are really worried about it though. :-)

Jenelle, I have enjoyed reading your journey so far. Wishing you the best of luck. I'm hoping to have surgery in May. I go next week to see the surgeon. I hope I have an easy time like you. I'm not really worried about pain, but more so of having nausea and vomiting. Maybe it will all be good though. Getting excited and ready for a change!!

My psych apt was 3 hours long. One hour with psych and 2 hours answering 1 test of 568 questions and 1 test that had 189 questions. Some of the questions were funny. I have to go back for results next week. She already told me she did not see a problem. I guess I will find out late next week. I would not worry about it.

My psych evaluation was about 2 1/2 hours long ... the 500 (I believe) questions took the longest part. I thought I'd fly through, I was approved very quickly for insurance payment and had to have a couple tests run. It has taken freaken forever! The surgeon wanted a heart specialist and the heart specialist wanted a ton of tests, every one of these has taken 3 weeks or more before the appointment. There has been a minimum of 2 appointments every week for the last 10 weeks. I'm facing the last week of appointments now ... one on Tuesday, one on Wednesday and two on Thursday. (One of the Thursday meetings is with the cardiologist assistant to get all the results of my tests!) Hopefully, surgery will be scheduled for May, but I won't hold my breath.
In the meantime, I'm trying to eat healthier, drinking at least 4 bottles of Water a day, cut out all the sugar already and getting ready to discontinue my coffee habit as well as meeting with a therapist every few weeks to make sure my head is on straight for all that faces us in the future! Hope I'm doing enough to get ready.

I'm glad ya'll feel the same as I do about this. I have been apprehensive about telling people. Right now, a good friend, my husband and my son are the only ones that know. I don't have a date yet, but I should not feel obligated to tell anyone. This is for me and not for anyone else to judge!????

Let me share a personal story with you that may have you second guessing if you really need to tell everyone you had weight loss surgery. Back in 2004, a woman who is a friend /mom in my son's playgroup lost a lot of weight. She claimed she was doing Weight Watchers and lost over 100 pounds in a really short amount of time. Now of course I couldn't really tell you the exact time frame of her weight loss, because I was too busy leading my own life and attending to my own family and career to pay attention. This friend has successfully kept over 100 pounds off (sometimes going up/down 15 pounds) over the last 10 years. I have found myself jealous on occasion. How has she been successful when statistically speaking, most people regain their weight over time? Never once did I even consider she had WLS. It wasn't on my radar because WLS wasn't a part of my world.......yet.

Flash forward almost 10 years later. A few months ago I met this friend and a few other moms for a mom's night out. A few days before this, I had attended a WLS orientation at my hospital. Fresh on my mind were the eating habits I would have to implement after WLS - eat Protein first, chew slowley, don't drink while eating, etc. I watched my friend eat her dinner. She ate her chicken breast first and left most of it on her plate. She ate some veggies second and avoided the rice. She didn't take a sip of her drink. Not even once. Could this friend in fact had WLS back in 2004 and chose to only tell a select few? Maybe. I could ask her, but at this point I've decided not to. If she chose not to tell people, I'm going to respect her decision. Not once in the 10 years did it register on my radar that she may have had WLS. Not. Even. Once.

Here's the point I'm trying to make Weight loss surgery and the process is kind of like buying a new car. Once you buy one, you suddenly become more aware of every car on the road that looks like yours. People tend to be egocentric and aren't as focused on what we are doing as we may think.

I am so much more than a woman about to have weight loss surgery. I am a mother. I am a wife. I have built a successful career. I have many hobbies that I enjoy. I am a private person, in general. I don't want my weight loss journey monitored by everyone in all of my social circles. For me, I'm telling close family and that's it. These are the people who live with me day to day and who I really need support from. Who knows, maybe with time (and proven success) I may choose differently. For now, that is a decision that I'm comfortable with. If someone asks about my weight loss and asks how I did it, I plan to answer with a very simple, "I made some lifestyle changes and the weight is falling off" or "With a lot of hard work!"

    That's the truth, right?

Trust your intuition and make a decision that's right for you.

I found the Isopure at Walmart. Be sure to stop often during your travel home and walk. You have an increase risk of blood clots after surgery, and sitting for long periods is not good. Good luck!!

My sister is getting her sleeve on June 1st, 2012 with Dr. Alvarez in Mexico. I was wondering if there is anyone else who is having theirs that day or weekend. I live in San Antonio so she is coming here from Mississippi and we are traveling together to Eagle Pass, Tx. I want to find some buddies that will be there at the same time! Please let me know if you had Dr. Alvarez as your surgeon, your experience, but especially if you are going to be sleeved on June 1! Would love to have a buddy to visit with while we are there and share experiences with.
