  1. Does seem strange to be suggesting that you can have that already though. I'm not sleeved 'til 26 April but the literature that I got from the dietician recommends Clear liquids for first two weeks (I can hardly wait?!) Hope you are keeping well. Looks like you've had a bit of a rough time having gone through a slipped band and removal last year. After all that you really DESERVE to be slim:))
  2. Textured Vegetable Proteins (TVP) is a vegetarian substitute for meat that's generally made from soy flour. www.livestrong.com/article/270264-what-is-textured-vegetable-protein-made-from
  3. I have a friend who sobbed uncontrollably at around day 3 or 4 mark. Probably a mix of relief that it's over, nerves about the next few weeks, mixed in with post-anesthesia reaction. She was sleeved at the end of September, is around 84lbs lighter and couldn't be happier! Hang in there you are not crazy, this too will pass:)
  4. Remember to take your measurements today and some photos. I know, I know it's a VSG-er's worst nightmare but most of us haven't had a photo taken in years and have absolutely no idea what our measurements are. My Bariatric Nurse says that however much you hate the idea now you'll be glad you did when you are much further down the line or when you hit one of those "stalls" that we've heard a lot about. Often the number on the scales doesn't move but the number on the tape measure does!
  5. Hi Avilva I didn't know anything about drains either?! Hope you manage to get a good night's sleep. I'm sure they'll answer all your questions when you get there. This time tomorrow it'll all be over:)
  6. How are you holding up? Just think how well (and slimmer) you'll feel this time next week, next month...
  7. The very best of luck tomorrow. We'll be thinking of you:) Keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.
  8. My Dietician said that I should decide in advance what I wanted to tell people because the weight loss can be rapid and substantial and people will assume I've been very ill (I have to say, that never occurred to me...)! I have told close friends and family who have all had their share of diet success and failures over the years. It didn't seem fair for me to lose weight and have them ask me how and for me to say "eat less move more". I know they would go away feeling pleased for me but a failure for not being able to do it themselves (we've all been there). Didn't seem fair. Each to their own though. You must do what feels right for you.
  9. I don't know if this link will work or if this is the place to post it but thought, as my fellow "April Sleever Buddies" and I are on the cusp of major changes, I would show you a documentary that was shown here in Scotland a couple of weeks ago that I found interesting and encouraging. It is about a surgeon who investigates what makes some people fat and she starts from her personal view that we should eat-less-and-move-more and by the end her views have changed about what makes some people overweight and how they can be helped. It deals with Gastric By-Pass but the principles hold true for us "Sleevers" too I think. Interesting, particularly the sections on hunger hormones and stress. I found it encouraging, I hope you do too... www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01dzfgb (If you can't get this link it might be on Youtube. It's a called Horizon: The Truth about Fat) Quote MultiQuote Edit

  11. Wow Courtney, just noticed you've lost 7lbs already!!! Well done
  12. ...and to you! Here's to being slimmer and a whole lot healthier by the end of the year.
  13. Isn't this interesting. At 14 all I ate was 3 dry Cream Crackers all day and toast/jam (jelly) for dinner. Hope somebody somewhere is taking note of this pattern. ( Linkybo, what's a "Hoho"? I've heard my daughter use the word as a euphemism for part of her anatomy! Clearly not the same thing in the US as it is here in Scotland:) ) At least none of our kids will hopefully follow our pattern. They will see us eating good food, in small amounts and looking slim and healthy
  14. I know what you mean, it'll be good to free up the closet space as we get rid of those larger sizes one and for all!! I'm going on a family holiday to the island of Tenerife next week and come back to immediately start my pre-op diet. This will be the last holiday that I wear my sarong to the edge of the pool, stand pretending to look for my children in the pool when actually I'm waiting until the ladder is free so that I can quickly drop to sarong and get into the Water without anyone noticing. Next holiday I will be striding confidently to the poolside in my small swimming costume (my body has NEVER seen a bikini, even when I was a US 6/8 (I'm 5' 2") )! - too much pale Scottish skin on show is not a good look). Might even get a spray tan...
  15. Thanks for that, still trying to find my way around this site.
  16. Nearly forgot... What have you decided to tell people? My nutritionist said that I should decide what I'm going to tell people as, because the weight loss is rapid, people will assume I'm ill! Are you telling people in advance, after the op, or not at all?
  17. The very best of luck to you all! It's all good. Just remember that whilst this surgery is scary if we don't do this for our health we risk an even scarier future by leaving ourselves open to all sorts of major health problems in the not too distant future. That and it'll be great being able to wear high-heeled shoes without the circulation stopping in my toes because of the weight the balls of my feet are having to support!! My date is not until April 26 so I'll be watching with great interest and joy as you shrink day by day...
  18. Well done you're doing so well! I have a friend who is at the 6 month stage and still had no head or physical hunger - can't weight. Joni & Ruth, you'll be leading the way in April, my date is the 26th. The very best of luck to you both. This is our second chance to get things right:) Alison x
  19. This is going to sound like a stupid, inconsequential question but do we go into surgery without underwear on? I've become so used to sucky-in-pully-up underwear it'll be odd not wandering around in normal, matching (bliss) underwear! I'm aware that a bra will be out of the question due an incision point but wondered if I should be purchasing a celebratory pair of large "surgery" pants/knickers...
  20. Just met up with my friend who had her sleeve op in September and is nearly 84lbs lighter. She looks and feels amazing but said she got a bit of the blues at about day 3 post-op but says it soon passed so not to worry, its not unusual. We're nearly in April. The very best of luck to all those whose ops are next week! If she's anything to go by the very best is yet to come
  21. Hi All, just worked out how to reply!! I'm getting my surgery on 26 April here in Scotland, UK (hence my name VSGlass - only way I could remember what I'd called myself!) I go on my pre-op diet on Monday 16 April but I've been given a diet sheet to follow. Nearly there...!
  22. Loved your post. My surgery date is 26 April here in Scotland. VSG is not really known about here, lots of celebrities have been getting the band (never appealed to me for a variety of reasons) so I've done lots of independent research. I've only just stumbled upon this site and it's wonderful to hear so many honest and inspiring stories! I wish you every success with your journey, not that you'll need it
