  1. Good luck to all having surgery tomorrow! Check in when you can!
  2. Yeah, I agree with not self-medicating. I also had the cuffs on from right before surgery until I was discharged. I also had meds in the hospital to thin my blood. And finally, because is had another surgery 8 weeks prior, I had to give myself shots in my tummy for 10 days after I got out of the hospital. That pretty much cured me of my needle phobia. Anyway, I digress. Talk to your surgeon. Blood clots are a risk, but not a huge one unless you have other things like I did that make you a higher risk. If you are, there are things your doctor can do.
  3. Welcome to the boards! Everyone around here is super supportive no matter where you are in your journey. I look forward to seeing you around here. Best of luck in your journey!
  4. Good luck to all of you having surgery tomorrow. Also, a special wish to my sleeve brother DadTo2! You won't like Dr. Nick too much in the next few days. Trust me though, you will like him again soon enough. The folks at FP are wonderful!
  5. Oops! I see you already addressed what I brought up. We were posting at the same time.
  6. This is such a hard area. Putting your child on a diet or exercise routine could be damaging to their psyche. Diet = restriction no matter how you look at it. What you can do is get the junk out of the house. By not having it there, you will be cooking and preparing healthier meals for her and Snacks will be limited to more nutritious choices. As far as exercise, I would do as the poster above said, use play as her form of exercise. Swimming, bike riding, family walks, or anything she might see as fun and not work. Best of luck to you!
  7. Sorry for highjacking your post with weather and body temp talk. Congrats on your weight loss so far!
  8. I'm only down 27 so far and notice I'm not using my fan every night at bedtime like I was preop!
  9. Aw, that is why you are cold. I'm hoping with weight loss, my heat intolerance will diminish. I HATE summers these days. I loved them though when I was a normal weight. Hoping too again one day.
  10. I'd love to be wherever you are!
  11. Walking regularly is the best way to ward off blood clots. The doctors, nurses and techs always made sure I was up and walking as much as possible. On the shakes front, the Premier Protein Shakes you get from Sam's or costco are very good. You can buy chocolate and vanilla there. strawberry has to be ordered on line. As you hang out here more, you will see Premier come up a lot. It is very good and very popular around here. Welcome and good luck to you in your journey. I look forward to seeing you around here.
  12. I lost 75 pounds many years ago and from that experience I know it takes a long time for you to see weight loss in yourself. Taking regular pics can help though. For some reason, it is easier to see our own weight loss in pics.
  13. Hi there. The world can truly be a harsh place sometimes. The reality is that there is a lot discrimination happening and obese people are one of the groups it happens to. It's just a sad reality to me that anyone, for any reason, is discriminated against and I'm sorry that it's happened to you. Are there any local weight loss support groups in your area such as OA or one at a hospital? Some of the hospitals in my area have support groups specifically for people who have had or who are considering WLS. You might be able to connect with others in that setting. Lord knows, they shouldn't discriminate against you. Oh, and a side note, if you click on the symbol by your post that looks like part of a down arrow, you can edit any mistakes.
  14. Hi Amy. I am also Amy. Welcome to the boards. I'm 12 days post op. Actually, 13 since it is past midnight and I couldn't be happier with my decision to have the sleeve. This is my only surgery, but there are plenty of others around here who are band to sleeve revision such as you will be. Heck, there are several RN's around here too. This is a wonderful place to hang out. The people on these boards are wonderful and very supportive. I look forward to seeing you around here!
  15. I'm only 12 days out and still on liquids, but I dream of what I will be able to eat. How about eggs? You could eat a hard boiled one or you could scramble one and add all kinds of things to it like cheese, veggies (like in an omlet) or low fat meat like turkey bacon of sausage. Also, what about high Protein Cereal like Kashi? I also think there is a high protein pancake recipe out there. Maybe on eggface's site. Google that. Heck, now that I think of it, try Googling high protein breakfasts.
  16. This is my only WLS and I am thankful everyday that I found out about it. I was initially going to do the band but decided on VSG due to all the complications I read about with the band and I decided I didn't wanna have to deal with all the fills.
  17. That is great! I'm 12 days out and lost 14 on preop and 13 since surgery. The weight falling off so easily right now is so fun!
  18. 3 weeks and 38 pounds is awesome! Did you lose all that since surgery?
  19. At 1 week out, I'd concentrate more on getting your liquids in and sorry less about the protein. Try warm liquids such as broths too. I'm 12 days out and warm still goes down better than cold. Feeling weak is normal for as early out as you are. Get rest. Your energy will come. Mine is already back quite a bit and I'm only a few days ahead of you. Your walk is probably a waddle due to pain. Mine was. Call your doctor. There are other pain meds out there. Take care.
  20. I second what the others said. I'm only 12 days out but its amazing the difference I feel from when I was 4 days out. The most important thing is to get your fluids. You don't wanna get dehydrated. The weakness and gas are normal.
  21. Thanks! I will definitely check with my pharmacist about mixing my meds in with the vitamins.
  22. I am trying to get a set schedule for taking my meds and my vitamins/supplements. I take the following vitamims/supplements: B-12 Biotin Calcium Multivitamin containing Iron I'm thinking that I can take all of the above except calcium at one time in the morning. Then, I can take my 3 doses of calcium throughout the day. I also think I can take my 2 meds with all of the vitamims/supplements in the morning. I will check with my doctor, pharmacist or nutritionist about that though. I'm just tying to simplify things and this seems the way to go. That is, unless anyone knows if I shouldn't be combining some of this. Thoughts? Oh, and 2,ore things: 1.) How long after I take my morning stuff before starting my calcium? 2.) How many hours apart do I need to spread my calcium doses out? Thanks!
  23. The store closest to me will be the Plano one. Rumor is it is due to open September 7th. It seems like a long wait but I'm sure it will be here before I know it.
