My Visit With My Pcp...ugh!
I have type I diabetes, totally different from type 2. However, I was given metformin to help with weight loss and it has done nothing other than keep me from gaining. It does help a bit with my insulin resistance, but I have yet to lose a pound and I take 2000 mg per day. That being said, I am obviously insulin dependent, and that Makes you gain weight. It's worth a shot, but keep in mind it has been used off label as a fertility drug, so make sure you consistently use a reliable form of birth control.

Are There Any Other Type 1 Diabetic Banders Here?
I have a gazillion questions, and can't seem to find anyone with the same issues. I have an insulin pump and Dexcom and wonder how you manage these around the port, etc.

Liquid Vitamins And Metformin
Metformin are huge pills! Did you go to a compounding pharmacy or were you able to get a liquid? That is the only one of my pills I worry about. The rest that I take are tiny. Didn't even think to ask on that, thanks for mentioning. Hopefully, I can kick Metformin all together!

And So It Begins...waiting On Insurance Approval
Oh Jim that it is just horrible! Considering you have sleep apnea, and clearly a family history since your dad had a heart attack, that is just unbelievable that Cigna is still denying. These insurance companies, I tell ya!

Aetna Approved Me
I also have Aetna. I have to pay a $250 copayment for the hospital stay. And that's it. It varies greatly by plan. They just sent me a letter, not denying the surgery, but stating that my paperwork was incomplete. They want a 2 yr weight history and trying to get my primary care doctor to send it to the surgeon has been like pulling teeth. I called my obgyn today to see if they can get my history there. Ridiculous for something so simple!

Introductions? Yes Please
Hello fellow Springers! My name is Kerry. I have two young boys, 1 & 2. They keep me busy! I am a stay at home mom/part time corporate travel agent. I have the most wonderful, supportive husband who is now contemplating getting a band now too. I'm pretty sure that he is secretly waiting to see how I does for me before jumping in. Yep, I am his guinea pig. Like most of you, my story is the same. Up and down my whole life, with one exception. I have type 1 diabetes. I learned as a young teenager that I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted to lose mucho weight, and fast. I had the most serious of eating disorders which has been coined "diabulemia". It is a lethal game that a great deal of teenagers with type 1 play. It's simple. You don't take your insulin. I am lucky to be alive today. I am lucky my mom watched out for me as closely as she did. Anyhow, enough about that. I am here now to lose weight the right way. The healthy way. And I plan to make my band work for me. That's me, in a nutshell. I look forward to sharing this journey with all of you. The good. The bad, and the ugly.

Single Incision Lap Band Surgery?
Anyone have this? I heard that one of the doctors at my center does it this way. I am curious and thinking of switching surgeons at the last minute to have the surgery this way. Reason being is I am on an insulin pump and the less scar tissue in my abdomen the better for rotating my sites. Would I be crazy to ask to switch to this surgeon when my surgery is less than a months away?

Getting Banded On April 13 :)
I am scheduled for April 23 and feel the same way. I felt the same when I had my first child too, but there was NO turning back there! I have to tell myself the same with the band. I WANT to lose weight to be able to do more with my kids. I NEED to get my blood sugar under control. I HAVE to do this for not only myself, but for my hubby and kids. It is no longer an option. I am DETERMINED to lose this excess weight and I need this tool to help me make that happen Oh, and anyone know how to get to the Springers group from the iPhone app?

For The Ladies Who Have Also Had Csections.....
