2ndtimesacharm got a reaction from sweetncute in Will I Ever Enjoy Eating Again?
There are thousands of wlp who can enjoy their food and plenty of it. I am one of them, I am almost 4 months out and since about 8 weeks I have been able to eat almost anything with no problem, I enjoy eating out and big family dinners, loving to eat too much is how we got to this point in the first place. If you pace yourself and put only what you can handle on your plate ( like what should be done if you don't have a sleeve) then you will be fine. You will enjoy eating again if you allow yourself. This surgery didn't just restrict your stomach it changes how you see food forever. I know it is hard and everyone has a different journey but please don't think you have made the wrong decision, you will not regret this I promise. good luck and one little trick about salad iceberg lettuce is easier to digest than romaine.

Regarding the "no BM".....I have found "Smooth Move" tea very helpful. I drink a cup before I go to bed and the next day I'm usually back on track....no cramping or nausea either. I get mine at Target.

Try not weighing everyday. It is sort of like the watched pot that never boils. And do not underestimate the weight you are carrying as a result of 4 days with no BM. As much as you are excercising you should hopefully stay pretty regular. I would not go much longer before taking something that might get you "moving again."
Good luck and remember often after a plateau there is a big drop that has been hiding for a while.

I'm not telling my mother either, until the deed is done. I know I'll hear all the ways I could lose without WLS. But if that were true, I would have already been thin these last ten years! I will likely tell her after the fact though, since I somehow always end up telling my mother everything.

I am a Fairly established sleever (3 months post op) and I feel I am doing well, I have lost 50 pounds and went from size 18 down to a 12/14. I am feeling great, I chose not to tell every person I know that I had the surgery, I only told the people I knew would support me so I chose not to tell my mother! She is very happy that I have been getting myself healthy and going to the gym everyday but she is always giving me backhanded compliments like " you are looking great but you gota Lot more to go so don't stop!" or like today when we were comparing my wedding day pictures to recent ones, I was married 8 years ago, I happen to be 10 pounds lighter than I was on my big day and instead of just saying I look good she tells me I do look good but last week my face looked thinner!! I am down 4 pounds from last week!! Sometimes I really just want to scream at the top of my lungs DUH I am not going to get any bigger I had Surgery!!! But I know it will be a holy war! I am not looking for a compliment every time I leave the house I would really rather no one say anything but I really really don't want this at all. Why don't people understand that you don't always have to speak!!!

    Hugs for dealing with that.
And I'm probably totally out of line but that's what happens when we talk about personal things in an open forum - sometimes someone volunteers things you don't want to hear or don't agree with. So before I start, please forgive me if I give offense.
I personally feel that our weight problems (in almost every case) start with our heads and emotions, not our stomachs. There's a reason we abuse food like a drug, that we overeat, that we hide from things with it and continue to do it even when we start to hate our external appearance and know food is to blame.
I would evaluate your relationship with your mother and see if there are any triggers there that have caused you to feel badly about yourself or that have contributed to whatever you've got going on that helped you gain weight in the first place. If you can pinpoint it you can confront her and talk it out, or at least be aware of it so it doesn't set you into an emotional tizzy.
I never considered that I had a lot of problems with my mother because we were finally on good terms before surgery, but I did have some poor habits I learned from her to deal with post op. And I didn't realize that she was perhaps unintentionally lashing out at me because as a woman that is very overweight herself, she was jealous that I was leaving her behind and finally losing the weight. This conflicted with her happiness that I was doing what she wasn't able to do and left me with a mom that was sometimes very supportive and sometimes very hurtful. Once I could talk to her about it, we were able to move forward, and we're trying to find a way to fund her surgery now.
Don't just get mad and brush it off, think about it and what it says. I have no doubt your mother loves you. But if this is an opportunity to learn more about who you are and why, and change it, and possibly help her to see things your way, why pass it up?
Congrats to you for coming here to vent instead of doing something to set your progress back.
    ~Cheri

I've had to have some heart to hearts with people in my life for the same reason. I think the fact is they don't always know exactly what to say, so whatever comes out is probably not worth saying at all.
Perhaps you can just tell your Mom, "Hey Mom I love you very much and I appreciate your being happy for me - but you don't have to comment about my weight every single time you see me." <~~~ Make sure you're smiling when you say that. Sometimes that is enough. It takes the pressure off of her feeling like you expect her to say something and it takes the pressure off of you having to hold inside every crazy thing she mentions.
LOL!! If only life were easy huh?
Take care, and congrats on all your success thus far. You're doing fantatic.

2ndtimesacharm reacted to Cheles in A Size 8? Who Are You Kidding?
About 2-weeks ago I bought (ordered online) some size 12 pants because my 14 were way to large on me. I bought some jeans and dress pants, and a XL belt. They arrived and I was floating in them. Thankfuly I had to go to Atlanta Friday, so I decided I needed to return them. I did, and much to my surpise I was able to put on a size 10. Never in my entire life would I have thought I could be that size. Much less not wear a XL top. Well, I'm down to a 10 in pants and skirts and a L in tops and dresses. Nice.
However the sales lady brought me a size 8 in jeans. I'm thinking lady you are crazy. But, I got them on, zipped and was tucked into them. Much like wearing a size 24 like last year, but hello...I actually squezed into them! First lesson learned, no more buying pants online...I need to try them on now.
It's funny. I look at myself in the smaller sized clothes, and yes, I do love the classic lines I can finally wear. But, to be honest, I would be totally happy if I could stay in a 10. Who knows where this journey will take me, but I'm lovin' it.
What I do hate is my saggy skin on my leggs. I hate wearing shorts and swim suits. I know I'll have to have surgery for this, my arms and tummy, but that's to come in the future.
Good luck with your journey. I'm grateful for how far we've all come.

I too was a band to sleeve revision. I lost only 26 pounds with the band over a 5 year period and by the 6th year I gained back everything plus 10! I have had the sleeve for 80 days and I have lost over 40 pounds! I am very rarely hungry and when I am I eat a few bites and I am satisfied and soooo much more energetic!

LOL.. yeah, I had a friend who basically called me lazy and said I wasn't trying hard enough when I told her I was going to do the lapband!! LOL.. Then I decided to get sleeved, she promised to stay a night at the hospital w/ me and didn't show up or call until 3 weeks after surgery!!...
Later, she and I saw each other at a party and e'one else was raving about how good I looked and how much weight I'd lost, her comment was... You're gonna be something else when you get skinny".. in a very negative and sacastic manner... I responded, Honey, I'm already something else, something good and I'm getting better!!
I've learned that people who are either afraid, in denial or unwilling to take the risks and put in the work to change, are envious of those of us who do...
You are brave... she's giving you a compliment... in an awkward manner, but a compliment nonetheless!!
