Congratulations on the 10lbs and glad your feeling better. The gas stays for a while but does get better, Gas=X will be come your new best friend and you will need it time and again so buy some and always carry it with you. As far as soda there is mixed reviews, some say yes some say no. I have found that it is just better to give it up, carbonation creates a lot of gas and it makes you burp. Some of the early literature says that it may stretch the stoma and I was just not willing to risk that. I am 17 months post-op and I have had a sip of diet coke and honestly the taste is not the same. i do agree that drinking water all the time is boring and I use alot of the flavored water packets to mix things up and the diet Lipton green tea, makes me feel like I am having a soda. I do drink coffee and sometimes have a skinny latte from star bucks but my doctor told me if I drink coffee that for every cup of coffee I drink I need to drink that much more water, so I cut back on my coffee consumption. As for the family BBQ, next time it comes up you will be able to participate, so you have something to look forward to. I was banded 3 weeks before Thanksgiving and believe me it was a tough fall and winter holiday season but it tested my dedication and I made it and so can you. Good luck!

I wasn't put on a special diet either! I was happy about that lol, I wasn't looking forward to what everyone else was having to do. Now that I'm at my goal I can tell you not to worry about it.. it didn't make a bit of difference for my journey!

I was so worried the night before surgery, I couldn't sleep. I had many of the same worries you do. That was three months ago. I am 50lbs lighter and sooo happy with my lapband. You are doing the right thing. God bless

I wasn't put on any specific diet either. In fact, I wasn't told to lose any weight either - but told not to GAIN weight. I went to Outback the nite before surgery for my "last supper". Yummy ribs. 4 weeks of liquids after my surgery were long enuf on liquids, thank you very much. Not everyone is on a pre op diet.

In a heartbeat I would do it again! Some weeks I would lose nothing and others up to 2 pounds. My first month I lost 13, down some 80 pounds in a year.Good luck tomorrow.

I had some of the same worries. My 11 year-old almost talked me out of it, telling me I was fine the way I was. However, I'm a prayerful person and I prayed and I knew this was the tool that God had placed in my life. I also knew He was going to bring me through it with flying colors...and He did! I'm 8 1/2 wks post-op. I've lost 36 pounds. I read something this morning that really hit home to me and I posted it as my status: Worry is a misuse of imagination.
The first week was tough but it was totally worth it. Yes, I would do it again. Best wishes and God be with you on your journey. I'll be saying a prayer for you!
