MoreganK reacted to Lanette in Long Time No Post
Well, it's been a really long time since I've been on here but I am determined to get involved again. I've missed you guys! I had stopped losing back around the first of the year at 159 lb. (My original "personal" goal was 155 b/c that is the "normal" BMI for my height.) I had just resigned to the fact that 159 is what it's going to be. I lost my sister to suicide in March andI did lose down to 155 (not exactly how I had planned to) but I eventually bounced back up to 160. I'm holding here, but I have noticed A LOT of increased snacking. I think it's b/c I realize that no matter what I eat, I'm not losing and no matter what I eat, I'm not gaining.....so I might as well enjoy it. I know this is not the right attitude and I'm trying to nix it b/c Reece's PB cups have become way to common and it scares the heck out of me.
I guess my biggest question for you long timer's would be.....after you have stopped losing for good have you ever restarted to lose some more? I would love to lose about 10 more just to get closer to 150 so that I am officially where I wanted to originally be. Or should I just be happy where I am and get a better hold on this maintaning thing?
Thanks for any input and I've missed you guys!!

This is how I felt waking up ppl should kno it's not all peaches and cream but I'm 3 weeks out and I can tell you it gets better day by day and that the truth you hear it's so much it don't sound true but it do ..the emotional part is hard to but to the Op you'll do great have your heart set on the goal and all this will be worth it

You're right about health being number one. Ok, it lasts a month that's not bad.

MoreganK got a reaction from himalaya62 in Leaning toward a sleeve
I don't think I can say enough about how happy I am now, that I got the sleeve. I will totally say, that there was a point of regret about 3 months after where I thought I made a mistake, but that was only because I was just starting to get the hang of life after being sleeved. I also had some minor complications in the hospital that made me feel like I was going to die, but after a day I was over it.
I can now proudly say that I am medicaion free. My bloodpressure is normal, and I am not longer pre-diabetic. I am close to being one of the rare ladies who successfully puts her PCOS in remission state. I can not put in words what this means to me. It brings tears of joy! I am 40 pounds from my goal weight. I went from a size 20/22 to a size 14 (and counting down to my goal of size 10).
Things to keep in mind when making your decision.... it is not the easy way out. It still requires you to make all the correct mental decisions (in fact in some ways, its more important post-op). When you eat, you need to eat with nutrition in mind, and not just taste. Tattoo the basics of post-sleeve life on your arm or something, they need to be a part of your daily life forever (Protien, Vitamins, & Hydration). Remember that you are having a surgery that is a big life change, that means forever. It will happen fast, but it won't happen over night... also, the less weight you have to lose, the less you'll see some of the huge numbers other's see (I had to realize this myself).
Would I recommend the sleeve, if everything else has falled you... if you have health concerns you're worried over...if you mentally are ready to change your eating habits for good... heck yes, I would recommend the sleeve.

NYPrincess - I don't think many people talk about it, because to have that much pain is not the usual! I hope you start feeling better soon girl!
The worst part of surgery for me as the CO2 gas. That was pretty miserable. Now, just shy of two weeks out...from my perspective it was totally worth it all. I have lost 31 pounds total since the day I started my 10 day pre-op diet. I have lost 13 pounds since the surgery. For the first time in my life, I feel like I am in control of what I eat.

Don't give up you have an amaizing tool to beat this! Throw out everything your not suppose to have, thats what I do in my house. If its not there I dont even think about it. If you crave sweets try pudding thats sugar free. If you want salty pringles has 0 fat chips that are 16 crisps for 120 calories BUT dont eat these everyday. As everyone else said Protein first eggs, turkey,chicken,fish,tuna...Drink your Water or you will think your hungry but its just thirst. And if you are always hungry it may be acid, take an antiacid. You can do this! Go to you tube and search before and after vsg surgery that always helps me keep my eyes on the prize. Stay strong you git this

hun reassurance/help is on the way
there is NO WAY that the sleeve won't work - 85% of your tummy is gone, gone and gone
since your tummy is so small - you should be able to eat only "x" amount (whatever your NUT says)- you should ONLY eat that small amount (ie 1/3 cup)
DON'T eat anymore than your NUT tells you
very important - DO NOT "graze" - which means.....
NO eating between meals - eating here and there during the day when you are not supposed to, basically just plain over eating, eventually "possibly" causing you to gain weight - or not lose !!!!
feeling depressed, incorrectly telling yourself you are a failure - get over it
You are NOT a failure
you showed your intelligence by having the WLS - knowing you must lose weight to get healthy.
you must follow all the basic rules - Water is very important - are you following that ok? if not, you must try harder
stop drinking 1/2 hr before you eat
DO NOT drink during meal (or snack) DO NOT drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat
you lost 13 lbs pre-op, another 20 lbs after WLS - look at the whole picture - you weigh 33 lbs less than you use to. WooHoo!!!
please don't get discouraged
you need to remember you have a long road in front of you while losing the weight - but then.... you must still eat correctly for the REST of your life-but you can and WILL do this for your own good/health and happiness
No one ever promised you a "rose garden"
but you CAN do this - i have confidence in you - i can see you are a winner!!
Stop eating those "nasty" foods
why are they in the house anyways??
if your response is "you have kids and a boyfriend/husband (both? ) - oh well - they don't need all that junk either
clean your kitchen cupboards, pantry - get rid of all "those" things. don't need temptation around
eventually - you will be able to have a "bite or two" of a "goody" - but moderation - and for now i would nix any fattening food
EVERYTHING that the above people/sleevers' (and the ones to follow) have said are true - (we are all very smart )
suggestions are great!!!!
but you must work hard too - you didn't go to bed on a friday night, waking up monday morning with an extra "million" lbs - won't come off in a weekend either
gmnatbat gave many great responses to what the sleeve will do, and what it unfortunately will not do
do or do not there is no try
DO stick to all the rules with the sleeve, do have confidence in yourself - and "DO" tell yourself you are not a failure
the sleeve gives one more amazing thing
HOPE
you now have the chance to lose your weight, and become healthier and happier for the rest of your longer life with your sleeve
take care bud
good luck
my hand is holding up a glass of Water toasting to your success

I justed wanted to say that 25 pounds in your first month is awesome! Way to go, hon!!! Woo hooo!!! You should totally be celebrating that victory! Go get your nails or hair done to celebrate!!
And, I agree with everything these folks who've already posted are saying. And I will say that you can see a difference in you based on those two pictures you posted. I struggle sometimes with seeing a change in my appearnace, and I'm down 75 pounds.
Work that sleeve!! Eat clean, eat your protien, drink your liquids, go for a few walks... heck, walk laps at your favorite mall and window shop!! Park farther out.... whatever it takes to get you to add exercise to your day. Best of luck to you! Hang in there!!!

You have to put in the effort also. Remember your sleeve is only a tool. The sleeve will work. You are not a failure. Don't give in because it is too early to say that. Eat your Protein first and remember to get in your fluids. Stop eating things that you shouldn't. If you do, then you will set up yourself for failure later. You are definitely going to lose weight because you can't eat the amount you used to, but you need to do it right. Try to eat the right things instead of the wrong things. Message me if you have any questions. I had the surgery a year ago and have lost 106 lbs and am still losing. I have messed up along the way, and I have learned from it. Good luck.

MoreganK reacted to gmanbat in Jealous Friends
This surgery is a test...for you having the guts to get it and for those who know about it: how they are going to deal with you?
Ignorance of this operation is a given unless they have extensive medical training or have had experience personally or with someone they are involved with.
Ignorance is easily forgiven and remedied.
Cruelty and outright disrespect are another thing. Sometimes something like this surfaces what has been hidden all along. Having you along leveraged their ego, made them feel superior. Now you are looking better than them, (in their neurotic mind), and their tool is broken. They've switched places and don't like it. Apparently the affection that you thought they had for you was phony. It was only skin plus a fat layer deep.
If you have friends that rode this out with you and still love you...you have real friends.

MoreganK got a reaction from gmanbat in Jealous Friends
I have had a jealous friend moment. Someone who I thought understood a little better what wls patients go through, or at least would not use it to belittle me. We were out having a good time together, when she started talking about her weight. She wanted to lose 30 pounds, so she could go from her size 10s to her size 6s that she fit in when she was 19 (she is 28). She actually said, "I've thought about going the easy way out like you, and having surgery. But decided I'd do it the right way instead." I was so flabbergasted! So many things wrong with what she said. Disrespectful to me, wrong information about who should consider or get wls, just to point out the obvisous two. Since that day, I've placed some distance between us. She is a friend still, but I don't trust her in confidence as I once would have, and I do not see her hardly at all. The sad part is, she probably doesn't even notice or know why.
