  1. adding a bit more to this comment i made. it reminds me a bit of gelatine..
  2. yes ... weve been using it here for years. my hubbie is very hard to get to take anything and he has gut problems, including bowel, and he is quick to use it. i use it off an on. its very very good. i think it possibly would coat the lining of the stomach as well?/ mind you, not everyone can have it thick, you would need to put more water in it.. its very much a sloppy glue consistency when it comes in contact with water... i think thats what sits around the lining of the stomach and gut.. and it helps things to move through easily. actually if you put some diabetic cordial base in with it i dont think drinking it would be an issue.just add more water to it according to taste. all health shops should keep it.
  3. that sounds great. im goign to have to ask him though. im ringing my dietician early next week and i will have some questions to ask her. i must start to write some down .. thanks for this input. i will be quite happy if i could have a cup of caffeine first thing.; i tend to get a headache if i dont. i have it black without sugar anyway. it sounds like i will be doing that for breakfast. coffee and low fat yoghurt. Greek yoghurt.
  4. hi there.. i agree with the comments made here. ive learned just so much. it was really good to be able to sit with the surgeon and know what to ask him. it was very informative and both hubbie and i appreciated that. i think it was because we knew what to ask about. so this forum is first class in my books. also, i know about the eating, hating myself for doing it but finding its the way to comfort myself... lots of reasons that were not healthy reasons to start with, but it happens.
  5. i would love to join it as well?? is it through yahoo?? i wouldnt know where to find it.
  6. id like to know how soon after surgery one can have coffee?? i love at least one drink a day. caffeinated that is. i have about three other decaf coffees through the day. so... how soon after surgery would i be able to have it? also, is it possible to drink the coffee and have yoghurt at the same time??
  7. has anyone here heard of ''slippery elm" ?? its a natural powder made from a tree bark which is wonderful for lining the gut and helping with bowels. weve use it here after surgery and its just great. its natural, non addictive and you dont become dependant. also, it helps to sooth inflamed lining right through the digestive tract. its available in health stores. just mix 1 teaspoon in some water and it becomes thicker... if you cant drink it thick then add more liquid.
  8. also... pears are one of the fruits out for helping with these issues. im sure you can buy it in baby food.
  9. have you ever tried epsom salts?? thats what its called here in Aust. its very good, you may get a little twinge as its working but it soon passes. i use it all the time when i need something . it must be a real worry for you. im going to make sure that i have it on hand here to use if i need anything.
  10. whenever ive had surgery they have come off before this. i would just ease them off with some alcohol?? or just peel them off if they come easily. it shouldnt bee a problem.. not this far from surgery.
  11. i reckon its from your position on the table as well... i wouldnt try cracking it the way you usually do. not yet. can your hubbie give your back a good massage?? definately heat packs.
  12. thats good. so i can take my meds early. im able to have a light Breakfast,as im not due in theatre until 30m.( I think about 7am) so i can take the meds then im thinking. its way earlier than i usually take them but im sure it wont matter. at the moment i am concerned about taking these meds afterwoods. im on olmetec and they do tend to stick in my gut. already. added to this pain killers... i do hope that its not a problem. ive been bad with tablets after surgeries before, i vomit a lot. more issues. im going to have a good talk with my anesthesiest about the vomiting.. its getting harder to deal with each surgery i have. the last joint replacement they did a spinal block and just put me in a light sleep. they cant do that for this surgery as its above the lumber region. yes, i have some things to talk about with the dr.
  13. that was so good you didnt have much pain. i asked my dr about using CO2 and he doesnt use it. i will be interested to see how much pain i get, if i get any, when he doesnt use the gas in the abdo. also... a sensitive issue, a womans issue and one that a lot of older women live with. i think that i have a low lying bladder infection... i just live with it. however, im not sure if it would be enough to interfere with my surgery at all. anyone else here had these issues before surgery?? if i really have to i will see my dr again for antibiotics... but it wont be for another week. she only works part time. im running out of time as im done in about 12 days now.
  14. this is so right. nursing staff will tell you its far better to manage pain before it gets to be a big issue the more pain the harder it is medicate. so, its better to just take the meds every four hours and stop the pain from getting a hold. Even if the pain isnt much of an issue its better to take those meds. i want to ask about these meds.. again, im getting back to taking in anything solid. has anyone had to swallow solid pain killers after surgery?? this is concerning me as im having a lot of discomfort with my hernia constantly now. the thought of anything else happening to make things worse is just awful. im not sure whether i have some gastritis even. the dr will know when he operates. meantime i have a problem even taking b/p meds right now. i may have to ring my dr.
  15. i need to know... what about taking meds immediately before surgery?? i take meds for high blood pressure. did anyone else have the issue of what to do about taking their meds the day of their op?? and, whats more, how does one get on afterwoods?? we are liquids only... if we take tablets are we headed for trouble with swallowing meds ?? anyone got any info on this one please?? Also... i know we are on liquids only for the first two weeks. does that include coffee without milk and sugar?? i have mine black without sugar. im goign to have awful withdrawals without it. lol. worse than that i think.
  16. i certainly will. i know you are nervous.. i guess all of us are or will be. it will be fine. remember all the positive posts that you have read here... that may help you. hopefully you wont have any pain at all to speak of. i hope you do really well.. and i will be praying for you for tomorrow. ((hugs ))))
  17. Does Atkins have how to do ketosis in his books?? i remember years ago trying to get my body into ketosis and didnt succeed. but my metabolism is very sluggish and difficult to move. if you googled it i wonder what info you would get?? is it worth trying?
  18. why would he postpone the surgery when its well known that weight loss will cause you to improve?/ i dont understand that . and, whats more, i dont trust a lot of them either.
  19. this is just wonderful for you. congratulations. my dr had a set of dumbbells in his surgery rooms yesterday. he got me to lift one of them. i couldnt lift them. he said that was the amount of weight i had to lose to be successful in relieving the pressure on my lower joints. the weights were about 90 lbs. goodness me, lol, my hubbie started to freak out when he thought about that amount of weight. lol. i think he thinks im goign to blow away in the breeze. lol. i hope i can lose that much. it will bring me back to the weight i should be for my height. lets hope so. Your posts are giving me hope it can be done. thanks.
  20. this is just awful. how dreadful that this has happened. are you responsible for paying out for the sleeve bariatric??
  21. scales can be notoriously off. i probably will do the same. once im banded i will be so aware of my weight that jumping on the scales will be hard to resist.. lol. i will have to not depend on them though. it could be very misleading .
  22. ..its wise... you never know.
  23. and i think that was one of my problems as well. i just stopped using the scales.. and at the same time stopped thinking about how much food was going into my mouth. very convenient. like ignoring the dog and then it comes up behind me and bites me. lol.
  24. it sounds great to me.. lol.. its been a long long time since i ever had any sort of regard for my scales... way to go.. how quick is your weight loss? judy
