  1. chap stick and easy on/off clothes and bring with you and a I got this attitude. congrats on your up and coming surgery
  2. take a friend with you and hop a bus to do this. if you are a church person, ask someone there. (there is always a way if you look) missy was right about the cab part but an hour drive to and fro would cost alot.
  3. if you give up i will personally kick your butt....although dont fear too much as i would not want to break a nail...
  4. you are getting more hungry as you are healing and the swelling is going down. 100% normal....just gradually add more and more to your food intake per your dr's instruction. ...and if one thinks they (cant) then they are right........each day gets easier....pinky swears.
  5. so your clothes are looser (which to me says you are losing via inches) which is what matters.....as scale numbers go up and down all day long.....and just because the scale numbers are not moving as fast as you like does not mean the band is not working or you are not losing.......because you are losing weight in inches....i see no problem as you are eating right, exercising etc...the mistake is (thinking what you are thinking right now). hang with it...
  6. i really pondered whether to post this or not (i do not want to come across as bragging or boasting) however i wanted to share as its pretty darn kewl. this week alone, 5 people have said something to me about my weight loss (from out of the blue)...3 did not know i have had the surgery. 1. Jennifer who is our companys CFO, came up to me and said you are looking so good. 2. Darielle came up to me and said whatever you are doing, keep it going as you are looking (skinny) 3. Pat who is one of our accountants said you are looking amazing 4. Tiffany said i can really tell you are losing weight. 5. Dunkin Doughnut drive thru lady said wow, you have lost some weight so i said the thank you and how sweet (and the southern thing well bless your heart)...i am excited that people notice or are noticing....still difficult to say (thank you) but i am getting use to it
  7. *keep in mind, no matter what WLS one gets, the DS, the sleeve, the band, the bypass or plication (or band/plication) unless the person adheres to their new lifestyle, it wont work* to me, just having the surgery is not the answer. you must want it bad enough to do whatever you have too (that means following how to use it properly). just my 4 cents.
  8. no, they dont. and here is how i know as i went to their website: Bariatric Surgery TRICARE will cost share any of the following open or laparoscopic bariatric surgical procedures: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass Vertical banded gastroplasty Gastroplasty (stomach stapling) Adjustable gastric banding (i.e., adjustable LAP-BAND®) If you meet all of the following conditions: You're at least 18 years old or you must provide documentation of completion of bone growth. You were unsuccessful with non-surgical medical treatments for obesity. Your medical records must show your failed attempts. Diet programs, such as Weight Watchers®* and Jenny Craig*, are acceptable methods of dietary management, as long as there are monthly clinical visits with your doctor and medical documentation of your participation and your progress throughout the course of the dietary program. *These programs are not covered by TRICARE. Physician-supervised programs made-up of only weight-loss medication management, do not meet this requirement. [*]You have proof of one of the following: A body-mass index greater than or equal to 40 kilograms per meter squared (kg/m2); or A body-mass index of 35-39.9 kg/m2 with one clinically significant comorbidity, including but not limited to, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obstructive sleep apnea, Pickwickian syndrome, hypertension, coronary artery disease, obesity-related cardiomyopathy, or pulmonary hypertension. TRICARE does not cover the following services: Office visits solely for the treatment of obesity Non-surgical procedures for treatment of obesity Nutrition and diet counseling Biliopancreatic bypass (jejunoileal bypass, Scopinaro procedure) Gastric bubble or balloon Sleeve gastrectomy Gastric wrapping/open gastric banding Unlisted procedures
  9. i focus on lean protein, veggies and fruit and i stay within my allotted amount...i dont overthink the how many carbs vs fat vs whatever....however i am very much aware that 3500 calories is a pound and if i eat more calories than i burn off, i will gain or not lose weight.
  10. probably nothing but you should always refer to your dr if you are concerned no matter what...i can say everything is ms merry sunshine but i have no idea......just do what you are suppose to do...your doing good, no need to divert from that path.
  11. well of course,,,you just had major surgery so it is gonna be uncomfortable...use the pain meds to help if you want too...as the swelling subsides, your hunger will come back, mie sure did and i counted the minutes til i ate 2 oz of runny a ss oatmeal after 4 1/2 weeks of liquids.....i will remember that always
  12. no, not me...if i didnt have surgery i am sure they would have had to cut me out of my house one day..i was like bring it.. best of luck to you
  13. for years i wanted the bypass...i wanted it quick so when time came for truth, realization, i couldnt do it once they cut, it cant be fixed.....hence my choice to band and plication.
  14. life happens and it seems to always be something....in the past, i turned to high fat/high calorie foods to soothe me..they didnt talk back and of course i gained massive weight because i took in more calories than i burned off...so now i learned food is not gonna make me feel better even though it would briefly..when stressed, take a walk, take a bath, call someone, read or blog...i feel for you....every time something crappy happens, i think of a huge bag of lays bbq chips..just not worth it.... hang in there
  15. desk job here also...had surgery on wed, took off the following week...glad i did also
  16. http://www.livestron...avier-than-fat/ Muscle vs. Fat Weight Muscle is heavier by volume -- or more dense -- than fat. Muscle does not weigh more than fat, since 5 lbs. is 5 lbs. For example, a 5 lb. bag of potatoes weighs the same as a 5 lb. dumbbell. However, 5 lbs. of potatoes is much bulkier than the dumbbell. The same goes for fat and muscle tissue. The fat tissue will take up more room on your body while muscle will take up less. That's why muscle looks better on your body and therefore, your progress might not be seen on the scale. 17. waste your time and go back to your doctor and hospital and tell them something is wrong and dont leave til you feel better.
  18. i do it (after) and the things i make ahead, is measured out to my allotted portions. i try not to over think things. its hard enough to not break a nail
  19. this is exactly right...the scale goes up all day long. drink 16oz and your up that. pee it out and your down...its crazy to constantly weigh weigh weigh....do it if it helps but if you are constantly focused on that magic number, you are driving yourself crazy. .....100% judge by how loose your clothes are (are they too big)....do you feel better...ounces come and go....inches stay gone
  20. say hello and nice to meet you! i also have tricare and so i can relate. best thing to do is be honest with him and yourself and get the list of pre op's you need (requirements) and begin the journey to better health.
  21. i have the plication along with the band. it def helps me feel (full) quicker. its a wonderful thing but my dr stressed that it was important for me to eat the correct allotted portions, eat good food and exercise. so far, i have no complaints. best thing i ever have done. (ps, i have tricare also). best of luck to you
  22. def need to be drinking (alot) or as much as you can...need to stay hydrated so please try.....and this nonsense about not wanting to see the doctor...woman please??? did your doctor know what you weighed at surgery? did he put a lap band in you? if he did, then he knows who you are and what you look like....he will be your best ally is this whole thing...keep him on your side. now if the scale is not moving to your satisfaction, it DOES not mean this whole thing is not working...are your clothes looser? are they too big?? do you feel better (physically)? if you said yes, then that right there is a success in my book regardless of what the scale does or does not say to fail means to give up. are you giving up? if you answer no, then you are NOT a failure.
  23. it will go just fine/dandy......each day gets you closer...
