I don't know, since I haven't had it done yet, but 47 in 4 months is great! I hope that I can lose that much in 4 months! ????

LipstickLady, That is so good to hear! I love kids being active. I just have to force myself outside if my comfort place, I guess. I had started Jazzercise and was loving it, but then my son started xcountyr and I can't go anymore, so I stopped moving altogether. He has a better schedule with track season approaching, but fall was tough. He had to be to school by 5:30 (he still doesn't drive) each morning before school and was there until 5:30 at night (with school in between), then Saturdays he had meets.... So I felt like life revived around his exercising. I just have to walk while he's running or something. I just get so exhausted and have all the mom and teacher duties after. I know we all do, but I make excuses. I used to have an indoor bike and I'd Rudd for an hour or 2 each night when he was asleep. For me I think my best option is an at home thing late at night. I get too stressed with dinner, cleaning, laundry, homework, grading papers, and everything else, to try to fit it in during the day. Anyway... I live that you guys are active together. My goal is that I will be able to have enough weight off and to run with him by his senior year.

So basically 2 hours a day of walking? Wow... I need to get a treadmill or something. I'm a teacher and a single mom of an active teenager... I've got to be present. I know from experience even when I'm tired... exercising gives you energy...it's just doing it. Alright. Going to make it a goal... Thanks!

I was banded for four years and then revised to the sleeve. I loved my band the first two years, but then had problems. I had it slip several times, my port flipped twice, I had erosion and even with an empty band, I couldn't keep anything but ice cream down. So, I had to revise to something that worked better with my body.

I will be out a full 6 weeks. I had a really rough surgery (revision) and my recovery was difficult. My Dr. wanted me to have minimal stress and really master the rules for sleeve living.

Too many to even state them all, but one that happened a few years back was from my boyfriend at the time. His mom actually suffered from anorexia (sp?) his whole life. Okay, so I was the thinnest I'd been in years 5'8 about 170 and thought I looked pretty good. He said, "I thought girls with thick ankles weren't supposed to wear heels." I replied rather quickly, "I thought short bald guys weren't supposed to have girlfriends as hot as me." He tried to explain that that's what his mom had taught him. Needless to say, our relationship didn't last much longer.

JillDisney got a reaction from cls70 in Why Get A Lapband?
I have to say I an very happy with my decision to get the lap band, but it has been a lot of retraining my brain. It is very different than I thought it would be. You still have to make good choices. Believe me all the stuff that's bad for you and is tempting (to me anyway) like frosting, Cookies, m&ms, cream cheese, dips, and chips all go down fine. The thing is if you eat those you won't lose the weight. The lap band really is a tool to help you. It has taken 4 fills to feel any restriction. In the beginning I would get frustrated because I thought I should have felt more, but I really have had to change my thinking and form new habits. For me it's one day at a time. I'm mastering my eating lifestyle and soon I will begin the fitness part. I knew I just couldn't take it all on at once. I formed new habits gradually. The biggest one that works for me is that I don't eat after 7:00pm. When I used to stay up late preband, I could probably snack 1000-1200 calories nightly. Thats like my daily intake now. Of course there are special occasions or situations that are out of my control where I have to eat dinner past 7:00pm, but if I am home or at the movies, etc I just don't eat after 7:00. If I get hungry and I'm up super late I may have a Protein Shake. I also used to be a huge diet Coke drinker 6-12 cans daily. Yikes! I never drink it now. I drink tea (usually herbal) and Water instead. Once you replace old habits with new ones, you really don't miss them. It is still hard at times to stay away from the bad things, but it's a choice. Would I rather lose weight or eat this ------- (insert whatever there)? Most days I'd rather lose weight, but on occasion I let myself have a smalltreat. Its life. The difference is I may share a dessert if I even decide to have one with my entire table, where I used to have my own and then maybe stop at the drive thru on the way home to have something else. I also try not to eat fried or fast foods. It's still all about choices and forming new habits and letting lap band be a tool. It isn't going to be a cure all and it probably isn't going to be the "magic" tool you think. I think I thought it would do more. But if you do your part you will lose. I am actually greatful now because I know my choices are helping me live a healthier lifestyle. My sister, mom, and I have all done it and are all successful! My sister has lost a bit over 100lb. in 2 years. I have lost 57 lb. in a bit over 4 months and my mom has lost 33 lb. in 3 months. None of us deprive ourselves or do the drastic 500-600 calorie diet, but we still continue to lose. My sister looks fabulous and it doesn't matter that it's taken her 2 years. She's happy and eats things she enjoys, just less and healthier most of the time. Good luck!

You see that doesnt make since to me. The people we would look to for support the most turning in to the first person to drag you in the dirt. Just like with my Ex wife she got over 300lbs and I supported her every step of the way when she decided she wanted the gastric bypas I worked 3 jobs so we could pay for the sergery. And as soon as she got down to the 120s and less She decided she could not be with a fat guy and divorced me. LOL. its funny the guy she left me for slept with her cousin and now she is all alone and I am getting on with my life.

HeatherO, I think I would have been flattered if one of my kids said that, I think he probably sees you as "Mom" and never thought of you as "fat" in the first place. I guess love is blind, lol

I broke away from my Granmother (aka GrandEvil) and my uncle this past summer. They have never treated me like family, I basically took over my mother's place as caregiver when she died in '93, I never realized what a toll their treatment took on me until I did break away, we have to live for ourselves, no one else is going to value us if we don't value ourselves! So to hell with 'em, :tongue_smilie:

I did not tell my family I had surgery. My mom has made numerous negative comments about my friends who have had WLS. I would never hear the end of it if they knew.
In 2005 everything I had, including my job, was destroyed by hurricane Rita. I ended up moving 6 hours away from my mom. As hard as it is to be away from all my friends, and my support, it has been wonderful to be this far away from my mom. I hardly ever cry since moving away, and I use to cry all the time about the way I was treated.

Glad to know that being skinny through an eating disorder is more acceptable than being heavy! Sigh.
As other have said, my favorite comeback is, "I can always lose weight; but ugly is forever." Or "I can always lose weight; you don't seem to be able to grow hair."

What a jerk! Jealous, I'm sure. That is when you say, "Thanks for the advice pot. Well, this kettle has to get back to work, see you later!" How obnoxious!
And can you imagine the uproar if you said something similar but about race or intelligence?? "Hey, you know, you really have an afro, but I know there are some products out there to help you look less black." or "Hey, I know that you are pretty dumb, so I thought I'd let you know what the morning's memo meant" What a bunch of crap!!
