Length of hospital stay
I stayed overnight but slightly less than 24 hrs. Im so glad that my Dr. did require the stay. I just felt like they did everthing to make sure I was ok before releasing me. Every couple of hours someone was in my room checking my vitals, making me walk and sitting up these little 1 oz cups of water to make sure that I was drinking. I brought the cups home and they really help to remind me to drink. The goal is to drink 6 cups every hour that you are awoke. Im still having trouble getting in all 64 oz though.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
Yes I had a 2 week full liquid diet so I was allowed to eat cream soups , yogrut, sf jello and sf pudding along with my protein shakes and of course all the water I would like. Today is my day before surgery and all I can have is clear liquids. I made it this far without any cheats but I think today will be hard with just the clear liquids. The protein and soup really kept me full.

Big Medicine
I thought it was pretty good, but Im also wondering if they are going to include lapband and not just gastric. When reading the info on the website I got the impression that it was going to be only gastric. Even if that is the case I will continue to watch it because these type of shows are my favorite. Most of the time all I watch is TLC and Discovery Health. At this point I have probably seen ever episode of everyshow at least 2x.

Full Liquid stage
I was wondering the same thing. I think it would be ok on this stage because everything you are taking in is considered a liquid. I dont think it comes into play until after your done with the liquid stage. Is this correct? :help:

Liquid Diet Support Thread
I noticed that this thread had droped down so I decided to post again with it being the holdiay weekend and all of us still on the preop or postop liquid diet need all of the support we can get. I have a large loving family and its so neat because my mom and her sister live next door to each other so there is a large cookout planned for today. They have been preparing days in advance. My senses are so keen right now I could smell every spice that was put into the rub for the ribs. How will I ever make it thru this day. I think Im going to treat myself to a low fat malt from United Dairy Farmers. I know its more calories than I should have but its still liquid, right? I wonder if I take a scoop of my protein in will the store mix that in for me? I asked my mom if she thought she could take any of the drippings from the meat and make me a broth. Im so desparte. The one thing I know though is that Im not going to cheat. This close to surgury there is no way im going to eat meat or anything solid. Plus I just keep telling myself that I may have to miss this cookout but by the 4th I will be on soft foods so im sure there will be something I can eat.

Liquid Diet Support Thread
Evilah; Dont get discouraged, just get right back on track. Dont let yourself fall into the trap of since I already messed up I might as well wait and start again tommorrow. I know I do this alot and it seems as if each day I give myself one more day to get started again. Yesterday was a hard day for a lot of us. It was so hard to watch everbody else eat Sunday dinner and there I sit sipping on my soup. Luckly my boyfriend did the cooking or I would not have made it. I cant imagine cooking food that I cant eat. And just keep in mind that this is for just a short period of time we will be back to regular food in no time. :biggrin1:

Staples
I havent been banded yet but did have staples with my 2 c-sections. Once they were in I wanted them to stay there because the thought of them coming out was scarier than them being there. The good news is they dont hurt at all coming out. Its been a long time ago since I had them but I remember laying there holding by breath waiting for the nurse to take them out and she had actually already taken some out without me even noticing. Why did you have staples? I thought they would just use that strong tape. Suritape I thank its called. Did you have to be opened?

Liquid diet beware!!!!
Oh my goodness, so far I havent cheated and really have no desire, after reading this I know for sure Im not going to cheat. Im on day 5 and have been doing really well so far. I made myself drink a protein drink this morning because I really wasnt hungry but I know the key to getting thru this is to not let myself get to the point where Im hungry and lose control. Do you know if they plan on trying to do her surgery later?

Liquid Diet Support Thread
Ok so sounds like the clam chowder is out. But let me make sure I understand this? I can have egg drop soup? Does it have to be strained. I hope its ok because I got some last night. You know friday night is always the night you eat out and since it would be unfair to my kids to tell them that they cant eat out because Im on this diet and afraid that I couldnt curb the urge to eat their french fries on the way home, I decided that they could have their Mcdonalds and I would get egg drop soup. If it is ok do I still need to drain it or can I have the egg? I have only tried this soup once before, but it is definitly something I could treat myself to if it is something I can have.

Liquid Diet Support Thread
Im on day 3 of my 2 week preop liquid diet. I decided also to do a test run before the real thing a day early and actually made it the whole day. So far all I have had is a cup of coffee in the morning, yogurt, protein shakes, broth, sf jello, sf pudding and of course cream soup which is to be blended and strained. I dont know why it has to blended and strained but Im doing it. I also have to do liquids for 20 days after surgery so Im going to be on this for a while. So far its not bad but I know in the end Im going to have to get more creative. Does anyone know if clam chowder would be included in the cream soup category, especially if it has to be blended?

Insurance question...please help!
Actually what I paid was just the maxium out of pocket. Not deductible. The 90 10 is the coinsurance and this portion of what you are expected to pay should have a maxium. If not you could end up paying a lot in that 10%.

Insurance question...please help!
My insurance is UHC choice Plus and I was also covered at 90 10. What I had to pay was the maxium out of pocket deductible for the year, which was 1000 and needed to be paid at the time of my preop.

Worried it won't work.. help?
Im waiting to see what repsonse you get from the post because I have the same exact fear. What if this doesnt work. Just like you I have tried the cutting back and workiing out thing to only lose a small amount of weight. I keep telling myself that the difference is going to be the fact that instead of getting discouraged and giving up that this time the band is going to allow me to stay on track and that my body will give up its fight to keep the weight on before I give up my fight to take it off. I guess thats the difference. This time it is truely for life and not just for a couple of months until I give up.

1st meeting with md and have questions
Experience is very important but you also have to consider the travel time. What if you are having some type of complication or another and cant get there? Plus like you said he has done gastric for 10 years. In my opinion, it seems doing a lap band would be a piece of cake for him. Plus he wouldnt have been certified if he didnt know what he was doing. Another thing to think of is that he is not going to be the only one in the room. Im sure someone else though they may not be the one doing the surgery have seen one done and could assist him if the need be.

UHC Choice plus-won't cover?
pamla68 Congrats Ive been waiting to see you post that. :clap2:

UHC's new policy on fills!?!
This is a question that I have been meaning to ask. I also have UHC. If they are not going to cover the fills than like has already been stated it defeats the purpose of having the surgery done in the first place. I have preop on 5/8 and this will be the first question I ask. I guess the only thing we can do if its not covered is treat the fill like any other bill we have to pay and put it in the budget.

I got my date
I dont know if calling is standard or only after they have gave you the run around. But they do have your phone number. The claim form that the Dr. submitted would have your personal contact info as well as the info that your employer submitted when you got the insurance. I worked at Cigna for a short period of time and a phone # search is one of the ways you can look up a claim. Im sure other companies use the same type of program.

I got my date
I received a phone call from UHC to say I was approved on if I remember correctly 3/29. I didnt get my letter until 4/7. The dr office got their letter before I got mine. Which most people say that they got the letter before the dr and faxed it. That wasnt the case for me. It seems that everything is going different for me than others.

I got my date
Thanks so much. I wish everyone who is still waiting for approval and to get a date the best of luck. This is a stressful process. Now Im hoping everything goes right during preop and my surgery doesnt get delayed. With my luck, anything can happen. pamla68; Hang in there, I went thru the things with UHC also, they will come thru for you soon. :biggrin1:

I got my date
I finally got my date. I will be banded on 5/30/07. I cant believe this is really going to happen. :biggrin1:

Prior verticle C-Sections & lap band
I havent had surgery yet but, I have also had two c-sections both verticle and it has not been mentioned. I was kind of thinking that maybe it would be easier for them to just go back in the same scar. I guess this wouldnt make it laproscopic than, but I dont care what ever it takes. If you think about it there is already one scar why make more. Also this is just me being crazy, but why do they just push the fat to the side when they could just as easy take some out. I wouldnt mind:biggrin1:

Sweet Spot?
Thanks for the advise. I guess if I really be honest with myself Im afraid that after all is said and done that just eating less is not going to be enough. I know I have to work out too. But I have done this before. I have counted calories and kept them to no more than 1200 a day and done some type of workout, probably should have done more but I did do what I could and still didnt lose much weight. So now Im second guessing myself and trying to figure out how this is going to be different. In my mind the only way to make it different is to keep my calories as low as possible without feeling hungry, thus being as tight as possible. And if I cant eat I wont throw up so I wont risk a slip. Or is that not what causes a slip?

Sweet Spot?
I have a question concerning how do you feel in between finding your sweet spot (I think thats the term) and being too tight. I see post where people talk about being too tight and having to get unfilled. If you are too tight and cant eat or drink, are you hungry? Is that the reason for being unfilled? My thought is this and please let me know if Im wrong, I would love to be so tight that I cant hardly eat anything. This way I would not beable to get down things that I shouldnt. But on the other hand if Im too tight and still hungry that would be a problem. I know you have to get in enough food to get all of your nutrients and things, but couldnt you just take a muti vitamin?

crazy question about gas?
Oh my thats what I was afraid of. I will definitely tell my co workers ahead of time and make sure I use Beno gas or something. I know i cant spray any type of air freshner, we have some kind of policy against using those type of things in case someone else my have an allergic reaction. It took forever to get an automatic air freshner in the bathroom because of this. Thanks for the heads up.

crazy question about gas?
Ok here goes... When you have the gas after surgery, does it go away after sometime or will having gas continue to be a problem, and if so is the gas the type that just stays in you or do you fart and does it smell? I dont mean to sound nasty but I work in a cubicle with other people and was wondering if I was going to be having embarrassing issues that I should apolgize for beforehand. They know Im having the surgery so I think if I tell them of the side effects they will understand if they start to become a issue. :embarassed:
