  1. Prune juice. It's natural, and it works great. But I'm no expert -- I'm still pre op.

You poor thing. That's awful! I haven't had surgery yet, but I have been compiling a lot of info on the various stages. There's a lot of info here, if you search for it. Otherwise, let me know and I'll compile the info I have and send to you. Protein shakes do not make you feel full. I've heard that strained soup helps, and you can buy chicken broth online specifically for this stage. IMHO you aren't eating the right things. I thought the protein shakes would be filling, too, but they're not. Also, check out ObesityHelp.com
  3. Thanks, Amanda. That's a little too far for me. I have a doc that's 35 miles away, but I want someone closer. Every doc I've seen is at a Center of Excellence -- that's very important, I agree. I'm glad you had a good experience and are doing so well in your weight loss. Keep up the good work!
  4. UPDATE: Just ran across a post of someone who only did liquids for only 48 hours (per doc instructions) and had no problems. Happy New Year Everyone!
  5. Thanks, everyone. You all clearly liked your doctors. That's great. Right now ... because of y'all, I'm taking a close look at Dr. Fox and Dr. Marsden. Dr. Fox has really impressive credentials. He's a surgeon first and formeost & does a host of other surgeries as well. Dr. Marsden strictly does weight loss. Commenets about him have been mostly positive, but some older ones said he didn't do much follow up. Hey ... I want it all: Fantstic surgeon, great follow up and a decent bedside manner. I want a doctor that likes to be a partner in my journey, not the leader. I dislike anyone giving me orders. I may not be as smart, but my IQ is definitely up there, and I hate being treated like I'm anything less. I view all people as my equals, and some dr's don't like that. Mind you I had originally signed on with the top WLS surgeon in the Southwest -- Dr, David Provost of Denton. He's 35 miles away, and I dislike his PA big time, who does most/all of the fills. He's got a great support system, but it's 35 miles away. BTW he was the first surgeon in Texas to do the RNY and probably the LAPBAND as well. I considered John Alexander, another excellent surgeon, but he has a my way or the highway approach. I also looked at Dr. Cribbens, but found a lack of post-op support, same with Dr. Steven Hamm and Dr. Benavides,
  6. I saw Kuhn once and that's all it took for me to cross him off my list. Disliked him intensely but did love his PA, George, and others. Among the many dislikes I had is his office is supposed to be a Center of Excellence, and I couldn't get my wheelchair through the door. Kuhn got hot under he collar when I complained & he snapped back at me. Re: Fills. Most good doctors do the 1st fill a month post-op and will decide, with your input, when you need another. It's not up to you to decide to fill or unfill. Dr. Provost told me that there wouldn't be any problems because he would know about it .... long before the problem reared its ugly head. He's a great surgeon and does a lot of complex revisions and help for people with problems. Few can come close to his expertise. If you live North of Dallas and can handle the drive, Dr. Provost is the clear choice! I give him 5 stars. Others get 4 stars, and the rest 3 or lower. Dr. Benavides is a 4, but from what I read he outsources all post-surgery. Not good enof for me. Dr. Cribben and his partner, Dr. Hamm are both 4's as well, but I heard follow-up was lacking.
  7. If you're still hungry, there are 2 reasons: 1) You need a fill 2) Band was not inserted properly. Have it checked with a fluoroscope.

If that's a potential weight loss surgeons office, they just did you a big favor. I'd get the heck out of there and never return. I've already been to 3 dr's offices and still searching for the right one. This is too big a decision to handle lightly. Treat me even a little bad, and it's adiós.I'm a big girl and tough enough, but as a patient I deserve to be handled with kid gloves. We all do.
  9. I've been researching WLS for 10 years, and the is the first time I heard of a 3-week liquid diet. Certainly, you'll lose weight, but my suggestion is stop if it gets to be too much and move on to the puree stage. Doctors are not God, and personally, I usually make up my own mind, after carefully considering what they recommend. I've run across posts from patients who did the liquid diet for only 1 week. Congrats & best of luck.
  10. Hi, I live near downtown Dallas and looking for a great surgeon in the Dallas area. With a good staff. Good follow-up care. Good support. I am a high risk case, so I need the best. I've met 3 drs. so far, but noone has the right combination I'm looking for. Right now the dr's I'm considering are Cribbens, Hamm and Rodriquez. If you have any recommendations, please let me know.
