  12. Right now I'm so afraid of regret. That is the only thing that is gnawing at me. I'm still proceeding forward. Should hear from the ins. co. the end of this week. Dr. has me penciled in for June 14. But I keep thinking I'm going to regret it even though I read from almost everyone that they have bouts of regret but then once they've healed, they say they wish they had done it sooner. This is something that I will have to come to grips with. No one can help me with this but I just thought I'd put it out there! Thanks!
  13. Oops, Kayte, I sent a friend request by mistake. I'm not sleeved until June! You can ignore since I didn't follow instructions!!! LOL
  14. So, MinaT, our surgeries will be within about a week of each other! We'll have to keep each other posted!
  15. I have been a member of the Verticalsleevetalk.com forum since December 2011. I log on almost every day to see if there is new information to learn -- and there always is. In April of 2011 I learned that my insurance company (Anthem Covacare) paid for the VSG, but I would have to complete a 12 month counseling process. At that time, I really didn't know if I was going to have surgery. I found a WLS doctor near my home and made an appointment to visit and find out more information. I talked to his surgical coordinator and to the doctor in person. When I met him, I did not get a good feeling but I ignored my initial feelings and thought I was just overwhelmed with information. I talked to my assigned counselor twice a month. There was a 4 week period where I dialed in to a group conference on the telephone. It wasn't until September or October that I really got serious about surgery. In December I found this forum and became a "peeper" and read for a while until I had questions and then joined. I found out that a friend of mine was having the gastric bypass in December. I couldn't get a hold of her until late January and she told me about her journey. She wanted the bypass because she wanted the dumping effect. She said that she needed the reminder of what not to eat. Anyway, she told me about the doctor she went to and I had not hear much about him. Turns out he used to be partners with the doctor I had chosen -- even showed my doctor how to do the surgery lapriscopically! Then in March I contacted my doctors office and asked them what else I could do to get ready for May 2, when the insurance company would be making their decision. The nurse scheduler told me to get a psyc eval and that I had to pay the $1000 to the doctor that was required before surgery. I hit the roof because I was not told this. She said the money was to pay for his fitness gym and additional appointments. They gym is not big at all. I kind of freaked on her and she scheduled me for another appointment with him since it had been a year since I had talked to him. I hung up and immediately contact my friend who had surgery in December and got the number of her doctor. I called and even the front desk girl was so helpful!!! I cancelled the appointment with the first doctor. I had my psyc eval sent to this new doctor - Dr. T. and was told to attend an orientation. Dr. T's PA did the orientation and I learned nothing new but had to go through the process. Next, I had to get an endoscopy which went very smoothly and 4 days later I met with Dr. T. I was blown away by his down-to-earth style. I was immediately drawn in by his charisma and his willingness to answer all my questions -- and believe me, I had a ton! His physician's assistant was just as informative. You could tell these guys knew each other well and have worked together for a long time! Last week I finished another group session that lasted 3 Mondays. I talked to my counselor for the last time last week and on Wednesday, 5/2 she will send through my paperwork to the insurance company. The Drs. office will put through their paperwork on that day as well. I should know something by Friday, 5/4 or Monday, 5/7. I'm really scared, excited, scared, hopeful, scared, nervous!
  16. Hi Carrie, I, too, am both scared and excited. My surgery is temporarily scheduled for June 14. At the end of this week, I should know if I'm approved by the insurance company. One day I get scared and say I'm not going to have the surgery and the next day I want the surgery. There are more days that I want it now that I have researched the HECK out of this! I joined this forum in December and I'm on it every day and I learn something new every day. Keep us posted on your decision and progress!
  17. Hello! I've been on this forum for months and still can't figure out what NSV means! Could someone spell it out for me! LOL
  18. Do you all think I'll be able to drink the sugar free Wylers drink powder or Walmart drink powder. They come in a box of 12 tube packets. I bought a bunch of boxes cuz i really like them.
  19. I will be sleeved in June. Im just wondering if the liquid bowel movements are a direct result of a liquid diet?
  20. We are members of an elite group ( or at least i will be in 6 more weeks). We are all we have when it comes to understamding the surgery and the journey. You can do it!! You have the tool!
  21. I guess i thought that pasta, bread and grains were a no-no after being sleeved. I love Quinoa! And so healthy. I eill chk my local Trader Joes. Thank you!!!
  22. MustangAli, I am pre-op but I've been reading steadily on two forums and anything I can get my hands on. I understand that there is a 5-day pouch test: http://www.5daypouchtest.com/ that will put you back on track. Check it out -- it has a TON of information. I read that it reminds you of how to use your sleeve tool as you did in the beginning. I hope this helps!
  23. Dear luvrkb, I was doing the exact same thing as you. I was vasilating back and forth but now I'm going forth on June 14. I have fought this "disease" my whole life and now I am 55. My back and knees hurt all the time. I can't climb a flight of steps without my heart pounding in my chest. I have no co-morbidities except a BMI of 39 and the aches and pains mentioned. Someone either on this forum or another forum compared dieting success and loss like this: can you hold your breath for a minute? Yes. Can you hold it for a lifetime? No. Some people can lose weight and keep it off for a lifetime. I am not one of those people. You can only do what your heart tells you. I have been a member of this forum for 8 months. I've learned so much from the kind people here. I know now in my heart, this is right for me. I'm not going to worry about the surgery. I haven't heard of any problems from the folks here. My friend who is a nurse anesthesis (SP?), and who is going to knock me out for my surgery, said I have a much bigger chance of getting in a car accident than anything happening in surgery. ***I have nothing but kind thoughts coming at you from this post!*** Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
  24. @Catracks - where did you find the quinoa pasta? I love the grain and usually cook it in my rice cooker but I'm afraid I won't be able to have it anymore once I'm sleeved in mid-June. I also wanted to ask anyone, once sleeved I understand that I will need to chew my food extremely well. Will it be that way forever? Thanks!
  25. Prettypebble: I will be sleeved in June. One if the veteran sleevers, Lil Miss Diva, posted a Basics Bootcamp to get started losing again. Here is the link: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/28139-the-basics-boot-camp/
