Just a quick 2 wk update: (im 6'2/F/26yo) Started pre-op diet 3/26 @ 290, had surgery on 4/6 by Garcia.. It's been 2 wks today and I'm 259.6. I'm down a total of 30.4 since starting pre-op and 17.6 since surgery. I'm feeling pretty good, aside from low energy... It's getting better each day tho.

Had my surgery yesterday and it was supposed to be outpatient. The pain wasn't bad, no pain medicine, however I had severe nausea and was throwing up so I had to spend the night... None of the nausea meds helped and I was miserable. Once I got in my room and admitting finally got me in the ststem I was able to get some pain medis which gave me instant relief from the nausea.... And I am home know and so happy to be here :-)

I just made it home. The pain is bearable. I found out that cold liquid makes my stomach hurt. It feels better when I drink hot or warm liquids. Other than that everything is fine. I'll update more when I rest up.

    Hi, my fellow losers!
I can't believe that tomorrow, the 19th of April will be my 1 year anniversary of the sleeve! Last year at exactly this time, I was a mess, worrying about everything that had to do with this surgery. I was getting my band taken out as well, and I was petrified. I prayed that everything would be O.K., just as all of you did. This was my last chance and I was so afraid that it wouldn't work. The one thing that I could hold on to was this site. Thank God for all of you. You said what I needed to hear, and I hope that during this year, I helped some others with their fears and frustrations.
I won't hit my goal weight, but that's ok. I am thrilled that I have lost the amount that I have, and I hope to continue to lose until I reach my goal. I can't tell you how much better I feel, and I know I look better. I can't believe how this sleeve has changed my life. I am so lucky to have had this procedure and not to have gone through it alone.
So, hip, hip, horray!! We did it! Now I have to keep on doing it. The sleeve makes it so much easier. Thanks again, fellow losers.
    Love,
    Linda

Hi Everyone... Just wanted to say that my surgery went great on Monday. I am so impressed with Dr. Ortiz and Obesity Control Center in Tijuana. I had no nausea, no gas and very little discomfort. Yesterday I relaxed by the pool and got a little sun. Today I went shopping with my mother for about 3 hours and all went well. I have been trying to get as much Fluid as I can but honestly, its hard to get anymore than about 4-5oz's down at a time. So, I am just sipping, sipping, SIPPING!!!! LOL It's funny though cause every time I sip it feels like my stomach is talking back to me with the gurgling noises. So, I just say "your welcome" LOL
Anyway.... Thank you for your prayers!! I came through the surgery just as I thought I would....The best advice that I can give to anyone having this surgery is to stay positive and choose a surgeon that you can trust not just the one that gives you the cheapest price!!
Dr. Ortiz and the entire staff at Obesity Control Center ROCK!!!! They have changed my life and I will be forever grateful!!!

Agree with mews! I'm 9 days post and I'm on liquids still for the rest of the week. Then the next 2 weeks I start mushy. In sticking to my drs orders. I personally think that starting mushy so soon is exactly that. Too soon. I want my sleeve to heal before I start working her! Lol

I was still on Clear Liquids at one week out. Maybe it's just too early to start going after eggs? I wasn't cleared for any eggs other than runny scrambled ones until one month after surgery.

It's completely okay to keep it to yourself and close people. That's what I did myself... not everybody needs to know everything! Oh and the freak out moments do happen the first so many days. I cried a lot, but feel so much better now. Good luck my fellow sleever!!!

I am keeping my surgery a secret, not because I am embarrassed but because I feel what motivated me to do it is very personal. Obviously, I have some problems with food that go beyond just not having willpower, so telling someone not close to me would feel like I was inviting them into my home while in my pajamas. Do what's right for you. Don't worry about anyone else's opinions or feelings. We all have our secrets.

@brittcherry- pick the best emotion youve ever had and then multiply it by a billion- cause when you are 10 days out and you are back to feeling strong and healthy and in control and those pounds are coming off quick.... thats how its going to feel.... like you are on top of the world and you can do anything!!!
This surgery can be scary and a bit difficult, but I KNOW that if you have had the stregnth to make a change in your life and you chose this path.... than you can do anything!
Stregnth and courage to all those sleevers on the back half of April.... and dont forget....

My name is Swilke - I am 5 ft. 196 lbs. I have been diagnosed with diabetes, liver disease, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol and have a BMI 38.9. What a mess. I have of course been thinking of doing the lab band since it was first advertised, because who doesn't want to be thin. I said I wanted it, but really never qualified you had to be 100 lbs overweight etc. As the years have past, I began having medical issues the biggest being my liver disesase - they say it is caused by being overweight. My dr. put me on all kinds of diets but they all failed and ended in me gaining all the lost weight plus more. In December, my dr. asked me about doing the lap band and I agreed. We went through all of the paper work, and April 11, 2012 was my surgery date. In Delano, with Dr. K. I am 4 days out. I feel pretty good. I am concerned about not eating enough or being healthy. I am taking a liquid Multivitamin, 5000 vit d, vit B12, and Bioten. I have chewable Calcium pills.< /p>
My immediate family has been pretty supportive. My teenage kids have helped me and encouraged me. They have me in bed most of the time. I sneak up and do a load of laundry here and there, straighten up a bit, etc. I figure as long as I feel good then I can do it.
I look forward to this journey and hope that I can stay educated and knowledgable about how to keep me nourished and well. I am looking forward to meeting people that are going through the same experiences and be able to encourage oneanother.

They are talking about the powder. The clear stuff is very drinkable. It's sort of like Gatorade. It does have an aftertaste at first, but mild and you get used to it. It's worth it. i haven't met many on here that manage to get in all their Protein during the first couple weeks. I did and I think it made a huge difference. Also the are 24 oz each right. That's almost all your Fluid intake too.
Towards the end of the second week you will be sick to death of them, but as the guy at the GNC store said: "You gotta do what you gotta do."

In Mexicali on day 3... Only pain I've had at all is this freaking drain tube. Once it's out I will be thrilled. I had some nausea the first night but none since. Walk walk walk and u will get everything moving. I had the shoulder pain on day one but my wife put pressure on the spot and it subsided. Everything has went great. We walked a few blocks yesterday outside in the nice warm weather.
Dr. Aceves and his staff are wonderful and u only need to know a hint of Spanish for the evening shift. Get the " I translate " app if you have an iPhone... They appreciate it!
Have an X-ray this morning and get my drain out so I am looking forward to that. Strength is back today as well.
Pre-op was the 11th and surgery the 12th. I go home the 15th

My wait was very similar to ChaCha's. And I'm almost 3 weeks post, too. Yeah, looking back that seems to have flown a lot faster than waiting to get out of my soft-food phase
But now it seems like everything is a "I can't wait until....". I can't wait until I am in the 180's. I can't wait to have the strength and endurance to try jogging. I can't wait..., I can't wait...., I can't wait.....
I guess the bottom line is journal a lot so you can look back and appreciate the WHOLE journey!
Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Here are some things you might want to do to put time before your surgery to good use:
Go through all the clothes you have stashed in your house. Organize them by size. After surgery, you are going to be dropping weight fast, and will need to move out of your current clothes that fit into the smaller sized ones. You don't want to buy stuff needlessly if you have clothes that fit stashed somewhere.
Figure out a plan on what you are going to do with your fat clothes as you shrink out of them. GET RID OF THEM in some way. I donated mine to a thrift store that supports a women shelter, gave them to a group that puts women back into the workforce (my business suits) and gave them to friends/family that were the size I shrunk out of.
Look to see what you are going to need once you shrink into a certain size. For example, I have to had to have black dress pants and jeans in every size I went through. I had some gaps in my stash of skinnier clothes, because I had given stuff away.
Write yourself a long detailed letter as to why you want the surgery, how you feel being the way you are now (before surgery) and what you are willing to give up to be the person you want to be. Put the letter away, and as you hit bumps in the road during your sleeve journey, you can pull it out and read it.
Take before pictures - and don't be shy. Take some in your underwear or a swimsuit so you can compare your results as you start to shrink. No one else will have to see these (unless you are comfortable sharing).
Take before measurements. You will want to have accurate before statistics, so you can track your inches lost.
Get a copy of the book "The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients". Read it and start working through the material. It really helped me.
Do some soul-searching. Try to figure out what your relationship with food is, and has been the reason for your problems. Start planning how you will deal with the emotional triggers when numbing yourself with food is no longer an option for you. Read some books on emotional eating (if that's an issue with you). The surgeon operates on your stomach, not your brain - you have to work on that part. Everyone is different here. The earlier you get a handle on your issues and start working on them, the better.
Start working on your behaviors that you will have to practice after your sleeve. Stop drinking sodas and other carbonated beverages. Stop drinking when you eat. Start waiting 30 minutes after you eat to drink anything. Start drinking 64 ounces of calorie free liquid each day. Start reducing the junk food and carbs that you eat. Start reducing (or stop eating) sugar. The earlier you embrace these habits, the better for you.

The time will pass quickly. Good Luck!
    Sharon

After I decided to go forward with surgery, time seemed to sloooooow down to almost nothing. The closer to the surgery date, the slower it went! I tried just about everything to keep me occupied so I wouldn't constantly obsess about it. But the date finally arrived, and now I'm 3 weeks post-op. Looking back it seems like time really flew (of course). I spent a HUGE amount of time going through this website trying to absorb just about as much information as I could so that I would be mentally prepared. I know it seems the same for you right now, but it will go by a lot faster than you can believe - just stay busy doing any and everything that you can. Good Luck - and let us know how you're doing!
