    Darla5060 got a reaction from magpie30 in 2 wks post op..not eating..just drinking ( not too much energy )
I remember going through exactly what you described...hang in there! I didn't get energy back until week 4, then I had it in abudance. At week 2, I still had really low energy. I also missed the food I used to eat. It took me a month to get over wanting that food I used to eat. It'll get better! This decision has changed my life in so many good ways! The best advice I got when I had the surgery was "The first month sucks". Keep that in mind, and don't worry - it's gets better very soon. Good luck!!!

No c-section for me either my surgeon did the leak test durring the operation, the pain was not bad I took pain meds while in the hospital but none since I've home, 10 days post op. The best advice I can give you is to be in the best physical condition you can before you have the procedure it will make it all go so much better, at least it did for me, good luck

Darla5060 reacted to PdxMan in does protein intake the first 2 weeks affect hair loss later on?
Bottom line is just follow your Drs guidelines as best as possible and just count on having Hair loss to some degree. I did it all. Protein, Biotin, Vitamins, exercise ... I was the picture of a perfect VSG patient. 6 months out, it started coming out. Like Darla, it lasted 3 months and then started coming back.
As Richard points out, it happens due to rapid weight loss. My guess is the flood of hormones contained within the fat which causes it, but again, that is merely speculation.
As TheGamer points out, I would have shaved plus a whole lot more to lose 100#. Even have 85% of my stomach removed!

Don't do it! It's so not worth it. First of all, those food we used to eat don't taste anywhere as good as they used to, and also, they tend to make sleevers feel sick. I do have a sweet treat every once in a while, so do treat yourself, but not to cakey type things - they'll make you feel yucky! I eat a very tiny amount of ice cream every once in a while. I did have a cupcake for someone's birthday the other day and I felt like crap! I do understand the craving. Take care! And congrats on your AWESOME weight loss!!!!

Darla5060 got a reaction from TES in does protein intake the first 2 weeks affect hair loss later on?
I made sure to get all my Protein in and still had hair loss...but it stopped after about three months and grew back. It's distressing, but at least it's temporary.

Whether or not sleeve patients dump is highly debatable. I won't get into that but I will say that the calories are still being absorbed. Most calories are absorbed in the intestines not the stomach, so if the food passes quickly out of your stomach or not...it doesn't matter as far as calorie absorption is concerned. The main job of the stomach is like a trash compactor..it manually grinds up the food further for ease in digestion later. Just fyi..
As to the eating...I'd say go back to basics...definitely get back to the beginning. Go back to your very basic post surgery losing phase diet. Not necessarily full liquids...but the lean Protein, low carb way you ate those first few months. Logging your food, weighing your portions...get back to that for a period and I bet you can turn this thing around pretty easily.

that's great advice and i had already thought about that. i mentioned the engineering mindset - i am always ready with a contingency and a margin of error.. managing big, complex projects will ruin you when it comes to spontaneity, that's for sure. being adaptive is the key to success.

Your hormones may be out of whack for a little while...just go with the flow, get lots of rest and focus on yourself and recovering. It's normal, and it'll pass.

Joe and Ronlee...this is the best thing I've ever done for myself! My husband had the surgery, too, five months after me, and he's doing great, too. Don't be nervous about what you can't eat - you most likely won't even want to eat that food anymore anyway! I did have regret for a couple of days after surgery, but it went away...it's just such a life-changing thing that I feared the massive changes. It took me a month to get my head in a good place after surgery, and it's been smooth ever since. I love having lost 100 pounds! I would never trade this for any food in the world. Good luck, and have fun on this new and exciting journey!

Darla5060 got a reaction from rxkid2384 in New Dad/husband. Scared Straight. Just Got My Surgery Date. Please Help With Advice
Hi there! I'm 9 1/2 months post-op, and my husband is almost four months post-op, so I can answer your questions from our experiences...I understand your fear of death, but neither my husband nor I had any complications, if that helps.
Six weeks seems like a long time, but do whatever your dr. tells you to do...it will, like you said, make the surgery go easier on you. My husband lost 25lbs. before surgery and he recovered much better than I did (I only lost 11lbs.). The more you can do to prepare before surgery, the better! I can't really answer about the ins and outs of the liquid diet - I only had to do that one day before my surgery, and it was Protein drinks and Water only. I've heard the liquid diet is hard. My one day was pretty hard!
Someone posted some advice on this site I held onto and found to be true - "The first month sucks." The first month was really hard because you're recovering from surgery! You won't feel good for about a week or two, then have less energy for another week or two, then you'll be fine (please remember that I'm just basing this on my experience - everyone's experience seems to be so different! But my hubby's experience was very similar, although he did bounce back quicker and easier than I did). I did feel regret the first few days, but I really think that's because my whole world had changed - food was such a big part of my world, and it was gone! The "head" part of surgery was a bit of a struggle for me, and after a couple of days, that feeling of regret was gone. My hubby never regretted it.
I waited three months, but now I drink coffee and alcohol (alcohol only occasionally). I haven't tried beer or soda because of the fizz - I hear the fizz does not feel good. My hubby drank a beer about a week ago, and he had to drink it really slowly, and couldn't finish it. So you can drink those things, but you may not want to. We eat tiny portions...we like fish, so we'll pan fry some salmon and I can eat about 2.5 oz and he can eat 2.8ish...it's fun and amazing how little you can eat and feel full! I just hit 100lb weight loss, and after almost four months, my husband has lost 50lbs. It will be the best thing for your family that you're doing this! Good luck, and if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to share!
