I feel like if I eat junkie food or food I used to eat I win. But if I eat healthy foods like fruits or vegetables or other 'foreign' foods then I lose. I have not been able to shift this in my head. It's like I'm secretly victorious by eating crap, which I KNOW IS WRONG! I think if anyone else feels this way they would get what I'm saying. I appreciate everyones responses, it helps to have support and some different mindsets. And the good food ideas, new things for me to try.

I have had lap band since December, what I notice is I eat a lot of the same foods as before, just smaller portions. And I do avoid the avoidables like bread, Pasta, etc. But I eat candy, and nachos (a slider food for me.) I can't wake up and just eat a protien shake then go to work. I want food! Has anyone else beat this battle? It's all a mental thing, what do you say to yourself to eat better. And I don't know how to eat better, I never have. Ate crappy foods my whole childhhood and then as an adult. What's a simple change to start? Like cut out chocolate bars and eat .... Or cut out chips and eat.... IDK. Any ideas? Any good food I might like?
    Thanks

I recently went to a friends wedding dinner, the meal cost me 35$ and I only ate 4 bites of it! I was told by a friend that she knew someone (you know how that goes) who had a card from her surgeon that said she had weight loss surgery so she could order off the kids menu. Has anyone heard of that? i don't eat out a lot, and usually my daughter will just give me a few bites of her meal and I'm fine. But I wonder what other people do when they eat out. I dont want to just order Soup and salad every time, I want meat! It's bad enough I eat so little everyone insists on staring at me and asking how I could be full already (people who KNOW i've had the surgery.) Thanks!

I think moderation is the key, I dont think you should eat 1000-1200 calories a day and then on your cheat day double or triple that, I dont find that to be good for your body at all

i got my fitbit two weeks ago and i love it! although i have not been very active it is motivating to log my weight and glucose measurements! i think it is a steal for all that it does...it also sends you emails with badges that you earned from meeting milestones such as number of steps and flights of stairs! i have been printing them out and hanging them up:)

I decided to buy a Fitbit today, after reading the reviews on this site and reviews on Amazon. My big question is which website to use. I went to fitbit.com to log some food- even though it hasn't arrived yet. But I see people use myfitnesspal.com with it too. If you use the myfitnesspal.com does it still give you all the activity and sleep logs? Does anyone use the fitbit.com site and think it will get easier with use? I've always use sparkpeople- so switching sites will be annoying, just trying to figure out which site I should switch too so I only have to make the move once.
I wish there was one site where you could log food, exercise, sleep record, fills, weight loss, inches loss, etc. But as of yet can't find one. Have to use lapband.com, sparkpeople.com, now fitbit.com. And this site too. It's a lot of sites to remember! Someone should invent it- they could be rich, LOL.

I had the bodybugg too, and switched to the Fitbit a couple weeks before my 6 month subscription expired. I tested both together to see how accurate the Fitbit was (I admit, I was sceptical that the $100 device could do the same thing as the more expensive Bodybugg). I found that the Fitbit actually reported about a 300 calorie burn less, which I was okay with. If it was showing more, I would have been concerned.
I just noticed on the Fitbit website today that they are coming out with a new wifi scale called the Fitbit Aria! I've been contemplating buying the Withing scale, but the reviews stating the lack of customer service put me off. The only down side is that the Aria is on pre-order and does not come out til April!

Sign in to myfitnesspal and then click on the tools tab. Near the top on the right it shows a couple of fitbit ultras and says learn more about fitbit ultra in blue letters. Click on that and it takes you to an area where you can link both together. Keep in mind when logging on fitnesspal it only shows a meal summary on the fitbit site. It does transfer the calories, Proteins, carbs etc, but it doesn't list each individual food eaten.

I started doing Zumba a few weeks ago at Curves. But at the Curves near me they hav actual Zumba classes and you don't have to be a member, you can just pay a drop in fee. I am a horrible dancer and have no rythmn but everyone is very supportive and you can catch on and as the instructor told me who cares if you can't do every step as long as you are sweating!

You're not alone. Reading your post made me cry. I don't know if I"m mourning food loss or what. But I feel like 'what the hell did I get myself into.' My family, of course, eats regular foods, sometimes with the kids we drive through McDonalds, I just roll the window down to air out the smell, and cry. I feel like if you have not had the band you can not understand it. I tell my fiancee- try imaginig you can't drink soda anymore, you can't eat all the fast food you used to love, people EXPECT you to be losing weight fast, I have never felt so abslutely hungry in all my life, etc, etc, etc. I finally told my honey last night "you have no idea how much I cry lately." Maybe it will pass, IDK, but you are not alone!

Got banded yesterday in Tulsa. My lapband counselor just told me I could have a Protein Drink today. Tomorrow very thin blenderized Soups. I am feeling terrific, going to walk around Wal-Mart a bit, then home.

Had my surgery on the 29th, and truly the first four days have not been fun. From the gas pains, shoulder hurting, burping & a elephant sitting on my chest it's been a rough four days. Today I contacted my doctor because of the burping/chest tightness and was told that he needs to take alittle of the Fluid out. I'm going to tough it through until the mushies for the weight loss will surely slow down at that time. No way that I can go through soft/regular food with the band this tight if even liquids are giving me a hard time. Three weeks of liquid so I am getting quite use to Protein Drinks, low fat yogurt, Jello, Water, pudding, etc. I feel full all the time but I still will drink my fluids so that I do not become weak or sick from lack of fluids. Have taken a week off from work, & have lost 8.5lbs from day of surgery. Remember we can & will win this battle! Peace out.

I am scheduled to have lap band surgery 12/27. I too am nervous about it. I've lost weight on my own several times and just gained it back plus more weight. For me, the lap band will help me keep the weight off once I have lost it and will change my life. I'm nervous but ready to change the rest of my life so I can be happy.

I am scheduled 12/27 and actually had a panic attack today. I have had 2 in my whole life. But the thought of everything this entails, the change in life, the what-ifs, I am with you there. But I am going to do it, and keep moving forward. It sounds like that's the best option. I think I will have some tears ahead of me, both pre-op and post-op. But we can do this, together, all of us! I started keeping a journal, it has been a good way for me to get out my stress instead of keeping it bottled up. I actually found an online site that is secure so I don't have to worry about people reading some of my thoughts. I think pre-op we are all having the exact same thoughts and fears. Keep expressing them, sharing them, but don't let them stop you. This is best for your health and the rest of your life.

Don't know if this will make you feel any better, but the day if my surgery, after I was gowned and in the surgery suite I absolutely flipped out! Crying, shaking, couldn't breath the whole 9 yards. They had to bring my husband back to help calm me down, not to mention the meds they put in my iv...lol. You are completely normal sugar, and we've all been there. So if you need to flip out, go for it. It's part of the process, your losing the only way of life you've ever known. It's scary, and exciting, and completely nerve wracking. It's ok to feel what you feel, just don't let it change your mind...and remember if you need to talk, we're all here for ya!!
    Good luck!!!

I meet with my Surgeon for the first time on Tuesday 13th. I was told yesterday by the Nutritionist that this particular Surgeon generally asks patients to lose a little more then the 5% weight they ask you tolose when you enter the program. I have to do a 6 month monitored diet for insurance so I still have plenty of time. I already hit the 5% goal.

It went really well. He was awesome! I am kinda a sarcastic jokester, and he was too so it was perfect! He told me all the pro's and con's, and asked if I wanted the sleeve (insurance won't cover it, so thats a no). Then he told me to schedule my surgery! He told me he was extremely confident that I would be at my goal weight within a year if I stay motivated with my diet and exercise. He thought it was funny that my children (3 & 5), exercise with me. They even keep me on track when I don't want to do it! He told me I should have my surgery now, and not wait until February, so I was all on board, but when I called the surgery scheduler, she said that he doesnt know how scheduling works, and she jokingly said that he just shows up, and doesn't know how it works behind the scenes! So February it is. Once my insurance gets accepted they are going to call me to schedule!!! YAY!
